I think I get the joke, but my theory is split in two. 1. "Quickscoping." The joke is based around the fact that sniping and using the scope for a short period of time is ridiculous, so, you quickscope at short range, effectively making the snipers turn into a shotgun. Short range, one hit kill. 2. "Gameplay." The joke is based around either A. The gameplay used in this video removes the large scope, making it look like a shotgun more than a sniper. Or B. The whole bolt-action-recoil-you-cannot-switch-to-a-secondary-in-this-time thing.
I remember the first times I played the Gun game. I could not kill any one with the ballistic and iron sights attached because I thought it was some kind of shotgun.
There is a way to cancel the bolt-action.... Shoot - Don't 'Hardscope'! Reload - Not all the way! And don't do it too early either! Do it as soon as the clip comes out of the gun. Sprint - Not the entire map! Just the tiniest distance possible. Do this quickly, but remember to allow time for the clip to come out when you reload. You can do this with the KSG and the Remington. With the shotguns, you can do this glitch to cancel the 'time taking, painfully slow pump-action.' With the shotgun, as there is no reload, you can just do this REALLY fast. Like if this helps!

I was previously a dsr guy but since i started leveling up my ballista. I seem to have much more fun. It seems to be a more active gun, luke u said the zoom speed allows me to shoot and line up anither shot much faster. Im a rush sniper so i find myself in more medium to close range battles so quickscoping is what i end up doing the most of. Quickscoping is also more gratifying for me

A skilled player can use the executioner to absolutely slaughter everybody, but it's role is as a secondary. Problem is, if you can quickscope, a sniper rifle is better than both of those at any range.
But that's what variable zoom has always been good for (well that and variable range sniping). It allowed you to play on higher levels of senitivity so that you could monitor several areas on low zoom while not comprimising accuracy due to higher levels of zoom. My point is that variable zoom has always allowed for monitoring areas with peripheral vision granted by low zoom while giving other advantages as well.
I don't have a problem with snipers but the problem is that the game allows them to be used as one shot kill "assault rifles" in close combat situations. Because the game requires multiple shot kills for all weapons at close range except the sniper rifles it gives them the advantage in a situation where they shouldn't have the advantage. In the real world one shot from an AK-47 will kill you just as fast as one shot from a sniper rifle. I understand the gameplay reasoning for requiring multiple shot kills but they should nerf the ability to snipe at close range by making it harder to get it on target fast - like the real world. People are calling it "quick scoping" but it is really "no scoping". I can't tell you how many times I have been killed in very close combat situation by a "No scoper". This is not real world and should be changed so it can't be done so easily. That is the problem. As far as sniping - that is perfectly fine. If someone wants to stand in the kill area then they should realize there is a good chance that they could be killed by a sniper at a distance.

Ballista has better hipfire than the DSR-50. After the most recent patch the Ballista idle sway with iron sights has been reduced to no idle sway therefore the iron sights are actually a good attachment for the Ballista. You may have noticed, but this gun has a strange resemblance to the M40A3 from Modern Warfare. In Modern Warfare almost everyone used the M40A3 with an acog which is why Drift0r may like the acog. An ideal set up for the Ballista is Ballistics CPU w/ Extended clip/Fast mag.
And about the ballista's sights, the scope is funky because of the "red plus" not being attached to the rest of the lines, and the iron sights don't give a very good field of view while viewing through the sights. Personally, I love this sniper over the XPR and SVU; DSR probably levels with this one.
Hmmm... Black ops 2 was ruined by sniping, fixed in ghosts. Ghosts was ruined by big maps and campers and op guns...Anyone see a pattern? Advanced Warfare should fix?

They had the ballistics CPU in MW3 as stability. The real problem lies in the zoom and the recoil increase (for semis) that comes from attaching scopes and suppressors of all things. One of them (I forget which but I think it is the SVU-AS) has a weaker default zoom and the rest of them don't benefit from the low/default from the variable zoom attachment. Ghost doesn't help sniping much anymore. There are no perks that directly support sniping either like scout or marksman.
I dont understand why people think it is underpowered and needs a buff. Of course it takes skill to use but once you learn how to quick scope properly you are unstoppable. When using smgs or ar u get 2 shots on them and then they kill you without being fully scoped in. The one thing ghosts did right was getting rid of quickscopers. You can change the reticle or whatever its called. Go to the a cog when its equipped then press Y and for achievements you can see what reticle you get.
if you hit the reload button and then weapon swap as soon as your character grabs the mag then you can skip the bolt animation and with fast hands you weapon swap is faster and the fast mag makes it even faster and you can turn your ballista into a slightly slower XPR-50 if you want to spend more work
Actually you can cancel the bolt animation by pressing the shoot button and the reload button at the same time and then running this works for ksg Remington and ballista
you can work the bolt while you sprint, and you can cancel the bolt so you dont have to cock the gun. just shoot and hit reload at the same time, then cancel the reload. works best with the balista and you can shoot almost twice as fast
it's in your head bro. fmj does not increase damage. it only decrease the damage drop when shooting through a wall and helps the bullets shoot straighter through walls
Let me just put this out there, the SVU is for spammer sniping. It's best used like a marksman rifle, putting 2-3 shots into the torso due to it's low recoil. It's best used in hardcore where it's always a one shot kill. If you want one shot drops in core with a semi-automatic rifle, then don't use it, use the XPR and aim for chest. I play mostly HC, so I love the SVU for sniping and I'm tired of seeing people complain about how "bad," it is simply because they don't know how it should be used.

Drift0r, the reason why you dislike the iron sights is because it hardly has any zoom and makes it extremely hard for you to aim at their mid torso and higher unlike ACOG which actually retains your peripheral vision and still zooms in enough for you to make it useable that way. Iron Sights for extreme CQC (might as well use the KSG really *facepalm*). ACOG for mid range.
sights only effect the recoil, but, since it is bolt, it dosent matter, only quickdraw and dextarity change the speed of which you aim. in this case, only dextarity after sprinting.
I don't care for the iron sights on the Ballista, although in zombies mode pack-a-punching the DSR 50 then double (or triple) pack-a-punching it to get iron sights I do like those even if its just for the simple fact that you have peripheral vision.
Sometimes the ballista really rocks. Other times, it's all hit-markers all the time. I know it's supposed to be one-hit-kill from the belly up but I often get hitmarkers chest-high.
If youre going for iron sights or a better acog centred scope Ballista is your shit. Also because it has a faster scoping time than the DSR. The DSR is a more traditional scope over mid to long ranges but the ballista is more adaptable. Its more run/scope than the DSR. Different playstyles for either weapon
I sure love turning a corner and being dead in less than a second since all snipers are is left trigger, right trigger, dead. It does have high recoil. Be Drift0r and shoot at that wall in Nuketown without moving the thumbstick. It has really high recoil. Treyarch is making the SMGs worse when it's the Shotguns and Snipers that are OP.
Not that I have seen. But the black hat is on my inventory on most of my classes. Depending on your Meta game it is an uncommon tool. I plat TDM and the "Hat" has been very useful, especially against campers.
the Ballista is my favorite sniper in bo2... the hit markers don't bother me because I figure sniping should be a test of your aiming ability, so I aim for the chest anyway
The ballista is a very nice sniper, my preferred attachments are in fact the Iron Sights, and Fast Mags. I find myself better using the Iron Sights than ACOG. I find them more better, more versatile. Depending on my gameplay, when it comes to an aggressive gameplay, I run with the iron sight Ballista, and I find them to be very beneficial with close, but especially with long range once you get used to the sights and mastered them.
Thank you. I have been trying to Gold Diamond sniper rifles and I am on the Ballista, but have been getting a lot of hitmarkers and raging hard at it. Although I now know where to hit, it is hard as hell to 'aim for the pectoral muscles and above' when I am quickscoping LOL.
xpr-50 is the best quickscoping sniper in close/medium range in my opinion cause of its strong damage(i know its not too strong) and cause of the fact that its semi-aoutomatic. i wouldn't use it for long range quickscoping cause of its swaying.
That's exactly what I said... "5 kills with the Ballista" it doesn't have to be a bloodthirsty medal using the weapon...just 5 kills total with the weapon, 4 sniper kills, a c4 kill and a .45 kill won't unlock it (6 kills total) but if your 7th kill is using the weapon it counts as a bloodthirsy towards the progress.
I was never bitching about them gunning me down, they killed me and that's that, but the fact remains even if they were nerfed they are still powerful. I noticed you saying in some comments that the ballista is OP because it aims in quick and it's good if you know how to aim right. Well there's your answer! To aim right you need to be experinced/skilll. OP weapons are something a noob could pick up and do fairly well with, and I doubt a random could just pick up a sniper and do amazing.
Somehow I feel that the Ballista is significantly lighter than the DSR. I have no way to prove it but I just feel it. But I do feel more confident with the DSR because I just get way less hitmarkers than the Ballista
Great breakdown. This is my weapon of choice, hands down. While ADS it just feels more fluid than the DSR. It's a feel thing, tough to explain, but any BO2 sniper here will know what I mean. While Drift0r said this is the best QS'ing sniper rifle, I think I prefer the DSR for that with the increased damage and "forgiveness" factor that rifle seems to have. Again, totally subjective there. I run Lightweight (not needed), Toughness, Cold Blooded, and Dexterity. The B23R as my secondary with EM.
I hip fire a lot with the DSR. Like when im in small cqb areas; And 7/10 times i get a kill when i hip fire with it. That is without the laser sight. But the Ballista's hipe fire box is really bad. Like what Drift0r said
Not as much of a sniper fan as I used to be. Both black ops games seem to have heavily nerfed sniping. BO2 does it through weak zoom and a pretty poor lineup of attachments or perks to support sniping. The most successful snipers seem to take the semi autos and spam their explosive traps while guarding the entrance to their nests with sentry guns or guardians.
It's the method by which you said it that confused me. You said that FMJ increases damage by two to three points through walls. What you meant was that FMJ retains two to three points more damage through walls than without. It was not entirely clear what you meant at first. My apologies.
I find trying to drag scope with the ballista is very inconsistent but with the dsr very doable. Although i do much prefer the ballista. harder sniper = more skill.
Although the statistics say that the FMJ does nothing for the damage I do have to say that at least me and my friends do seem to get a remarkably less amount of hit markers on the ballista.

Full Metal Jacket, according to the game's code, increases damage TOWARDS scorestreaks. You do more damage if you hit a UAV/CUAV/Sentry/etc..

I found that moving or jumping to any side make your no-scope much better and EXP on trickshoting
The ksg is actually coded as a low range sniper rifle and sometimes if you are using it and you die the enemy will say sniper down

I love using the ACOG on my snipers, I find it so easy. DSR 50 is awesome with ACOG

You can cancel the bolt animation by reloading and pressing YY about a quarter through the reload (When your character starts to remove the clip for DSR and Ballista)
Drift0r, the reason why you dislike the iron sights is because it hardly has any zoom and makes it extremely hard for you to aim at their mid torso and higher unlike ACOG which actually retains your peripheral vision and still zooms in enough for you to make it useable that way.
Iron Sights for extreme CQC (might as well use the KSG really *facepalm*).
ACOG for mid range.
sights only effect the recoil, but, since it is bolt, it dosent matter, only quickdraw and dextarity change the speed of which you aim. in this case, only dextarity after sprinting.
I don't care for the iron sights on the Ballista, although in zombies mode pack-a-punching the DSR 50 then double (or triple) pack-a-punching it to get iron sights I do like those even if its just for the simple fact that you have peripheral vision.
Sometimes the ballista really rocks. Other times, it's all hit-markers all the time. I know it's supposed to be one-hit-kill from the belly up but I often get hitmarkers chest-high.
If youre going for iron sights or a better acog centred scope Ballista is your shit. Also because it has a faster scoping time than the DSR. The DSR is a more traditional scope over mid to long ranges but the ballista is more adaptable. Its more run/scope than the DSR. Different playstyles for either weapon
I sure love turning a corner and being dead in less than a second since all snipers are is left trigger, right trigger, dead. It does have high recoil. Be Drift0r and shoot at that wall in Nuketown without moving the thumbstick. It has really high recoil. Treyarch is making the SMGs worse when it's the Shotguns and Snipers that are OP.
Not that I have seen. But the black hat is on my inventory on most of my classes. Depending on your Meta game it is an uncommon tool. I plat TDM and the "Hat" has been very useful, especially against campers.
the Ballista is my favorite sniper in bo2... the hit markers don't bother me because I figure sniping should be a test of your aiming ability, so I aim for the chest anyway

The ballista is a very nice sniper, my preferred attachments are in fact the Iron Sights, and Fast Mags. I find myself better using the Iron Sights than ACOG. I find them more better, more versatile. Depending on my gameplay, when it comes to an aggressive gameplay, I run with the iron sight Ballista, and I find them to be very beneficial with close, but especially with long range once you get used to the sights and mastered them.
To cancel the bolt animation, you have to hit X and then Y twice to cancel the reload animation.
the old dsr (not in the cod serries) was a full auto and always a one-hit kill weapon but the fire rate was at the speed of the full-outo FAL
u can cancel the bolt by reloading then change to secondary weapon then change back to your sniper quickly
Thank you. I have been trying to Gold Diamond sniper rifles and I am on the Ballista, but have been getting a lot of hitmarkers and raging hard at it. Although I now know where to hit, it is hard as hell to 'aim for the pectoral muscles and above' when I am quickscoping LOL.
xpr-50 is the best quickscoping sniper in close/medium range in my opinion cause of its strong damage(i know its not too strong) and cause of the fact that its semi-aoutomatic.
i wouldn't use it for long range quickscoping cause of its swaying.
That's exactly what I said...
"5 kills with the Ballista" it doesn't have to be a bloodthirsty medal using the weapon...just 5 kills total with the weapon, 4 sniper kills, a c4 kill and a .45 kill won't unlock it (6 kills total) but if your 7th kill is using the weapon it counts as a bloodthirsy towards the progress.

I use this gun the most for long range and for short I use mp7 great 2 combination's I was amazed on how well they work together my go to combo

I was never bitching about them gunning me down, they killed me and that's that, but the fact remains even if they were nerfed they are still powerful.
I noticed you saying in some comments that the ballista is OP because it aims in quick and it's good if you know how to aim right. Well there's your answer! To aim right you need to be experinced/skilll. OP weapons are something a noob could pick up and do fairly well with, and I doubt a random could just pick up a sniper and do amazing.
The thing about less damage and more hit markers is its made for quick scoping and being accurate
if you read the description you can read that the extra damage is for killstreaks.
Somehow I feel that the Ballista is significantly lighter than the DSR. I have no way to prove it but I just feel it. But I do feel more confident with the DSR because I just get way less hitmarkers than the Ballista
Great breakdown. This is my weapon of choice, hands down. While ADS it just feels more fluid than the DSR. It's a feel thing, tough to explain, but any BO2 sniper here will know what I mean. While Drift0r said this is the best QS'ing sniper rifle, I think I prefer the DSR for that with the increased damage and "forgiveness" factor that rifle seems to have. Again, totally subjective there. I run Lightweight (not needed), Toughness, Cold Blooded, and Dexterity. The B23R as my secondary with EM.
I hip fire a lot with the DSR. Like when im in small cqb areas; And 7/10 times i get a kill when i hip fire with it. That is without the laser sight. But the Ballista's hipe fire box is really bad. Like what Drift0r said
Not as much of a sniper fan as I used to be. Both black ops games seem to have heavily nerfed sniping. BO2 does it through weak zoom and a pretty poor lineup of attachments or perks to support sniping. The most successful snipers seem to take the semi autos and spam their explosive traps while guarding the entrance to their nests with sentry guns or guardians.
Bo2 had the best snipers! The rifles don't need more zoom, they kill from the chest. Ballistics CPU is the best sniping attachment ive ever seen.
The default scope for the Ballista is my favorite actually.
It's the method by which you said it that confused me. You said that FMJ increases damage by two to three points through walls.
What you meant was that FMJ retains two to three points more damage through walls than without.

The Ballista aims in faster, which makes it easier to quickscope.
But the DSR 50, has more no scoping accuracy, and regular sniping accuracy.
I find trying to drag scope with the ballista is very inconsistent but with the dsr very doable. Although i do much prefer the ballista. harder sniper = more skill.

Although the statistics say that the FMJ does nothing for the damage I do have to say that at least me and my friends do seem to get a remarkably less amount of hit markers on the ballista.
ballista can be the definitive sniper of you know how to use it, is quite easy to quicksope and pectoral aim
