Look, this may suprise you, but I accually LOVE this gun. It is the most viable gun for Marksman builds, and still good for sniping. I also adore its early unlock level, and its ease of use. High ROF means it can still be effective at those pesky MSMC n00bs and Ridge Mountain. Yes, THAT douche. And it allows you to miss! But in Zombies, god help them now.
In zombies it's bae it's what the XPR should have been if it were ever a zombies gun. I guess they didn't add it cause it wouldn't kinda be in between a wonder weapon and a conventional weapon.
The SVU is actually a current day weapon in use by Russia, and has been around since 1994. There is actually a fully automatic version, called the SVU-A. Since I'm obsessed with 7.62x54R chambered guns, I'd love to have one of these IRL, even though it looks like someone photoshopped a SVD to look like a bullpup. All Treyarch really did was add an AS at the end of it and say: FUTURISTIC! Considering the majority of CoD players are either ten year olds, or high-off-their-ass swagmonkies, I doubt many of them even knew about this gun before Black ops 2.

I use this gun like a DMR from ghosts, only better, I give it the ACOG scope and fast mags and just go ham on maps like Nuketown, Standoff, and sometimes even Raid if I'm lucky with my team

I use the SVU exactly as Driftor described it as. I find it's a useful version of the FAL and SMR that actually rewards accuracy if you can aim with it, and pierces multiple people as well as having damn good wall penetration. I find it's not so hot with the actual sniping, but if you can aim with it, it's a damn good weapon. Shame most people just spam with it.
I play this gun as a close range, agressive sniper: Attachments: Acog+Fast mag. This is a must. I often give up my secondary weapon to add a third attachment which is usually a laser sight. With this i can rely more on hipfiring which helps out a ton. As for perks, the only must here is toughness. The rest comes down to personal preference.
Easily my favorite sniper. With a fast trigger finger it's like getting a 1 shot kill almost, with way better rate of fire than other snipers. Plus a way better margin for error. And I really find supressor to be a bad idea. Losing your 1 shot kills hurts. Campy snipers tend to just poke their heads over walls and railings, I get 1 shot kill headshots all the time with this. This sniper with fast mag only, plus a TAC45 pistol is probably my personally most effective setup.
The attachments I use for this weapon are the ones that have no effect on recoil. Ballistic CPU, Zoom, and Dual Band. This gun has given me a true passion for snipers. It may be a spam weapon, but it's better than people doing trickshots with snipers.
The executioner is based off the Taurus Judge. It's a pistol that has shotgun style ammo as well as regular revolver ammo. FPSRussia did a video with it, you should check it out.
What I like this with this weapon (worth trying): Ballistic Computer + Dual-band Scope, Overkill for a naked Skorpion "secondary", Hardline, Toughness/Cold Blooded, and a smoke grenade. Great for the maps with a lot of dark areas (Yemen, Turbine, Meltdown, Overflow) in a medium-range overwatch role, but the Skorpion gives you a good CQC option when necessary.
Am i the only one who thinks its bullshit you have to get 250 one shot kills with all snipers to get them gold/diamond. This is fine with Xpr,Ballista, and dsr because of one hit kills. All i need is the SVU to get all snipers gold, and i cannot aim a sniper to hit the head for the life of me.. in my opinion treyarch made a mistake, FMJ should have made it a 1 hit
Dont use it as a sniper, run it with laser sight acog and suppressor and you can use it as a semi auto AR thats how i got gold on it. This was actually my first gold gun in BO2.

It's not just on snipers but just about every modern handgun apart from shotguns which are smooth bore. They are able to shoot farther because generally they have longer barrels and the bullets are of a higher calibre with a larger amount of gunpowder for increased velocity.

As that crazy guy who loves the Dragnov in previous games, I can agree. This is a MUCH easier gun to use, somewhat takes the fun out of it, but still great fun.
The M27 is just an HK 416 with a heavy barrel and extended mag, it's made to replace the M249 SAW as a Squad Automatic Weapon. The M27 competed with the HAMR, it won the competition since it's an easier weapon to use since it's an AR-15 platform. It's in service with the USMC since 2011.
Yeah thats Iroh haha. Well, in MW3 I got the Dragnov to gold before patch. It was actually pretty good if used right, Silencer, Acog and Stalker on your class made for a deadly combination. Acog because it made sense, Silencer for the muzzle flash and staying off the radar. Stalker so you can round corners already ADS'd. It worked pretty well, but still made for a good challenge.
Just to piggyback, if that's true that it decreases air-resistance, it wouldn't "stay up longer", it would go faster in it's horizontal motion, making it go farther, but it would remain airborne for about the same time. Wind definitely is a factor snipers consider at long ranges though. Also, the centrifugal motion from rifling the barrel does increase the accuracy; it's like throwing a football, but with bullets. :D

The Germans did actually experiment with curved barrels during WWII for shooting around corners. They did work, but they only fired so many shots before braking.
I don't think that's necessarily a mistake on Treyarch's part, I think the 2-shot headshot kill was done because for how low the recoil is and how fast you can pull the trigger, it was done for balance so that the final Sniper Rifle you unlock (I think it was the XPR-50, can't remember the exact name) wouldn't be underpowered
Alternate, yet extremely deadly setup: -Dual Band -Pistol of choice -Blind Eye -perk 2 greed with Toughness and Fast Hands -Tactical Mask -Semtex -Smoke grenade Dual band highlitghts almost everyone all the time (not many people use Cold Blooded), very powerful along with Smoke because you can see people but people cant see you; a pistol for obvious backup, blind eye to hide from annoying hunter killers; tac mask to avoid being stunned/flashed; and the tier 2 perks combo is needless to say.

What many people dont know is that you can for the first time in a call of duty game hold your breath with the ACOG. And the SVU has a lower zoom level then the rest of the snipers.
No what I was talking about was that guns in call of duty are actually held to the shoulder. I frequently "hipfire" when caught on the move without my rangers out in MW2. Hipfire just sounds better. And in real life you can shoot it from the shoulder pretty fast if you know how to hold it without aiming down the sights.
He did. In Core games modes you have 100 health, in Hardcore you have 30 health. The SVU does 70 damage, with a multiplier of 1.5x to the head. Meaning that headshots will be a 1 shot kill, while everything else is a 2 shot kill. With a Silencer, your headshot multiplier is removed making even headshots 2 shots to kill. In Hardcore, the SVU-AS is a 1 shot kill no matter where you shoot.
Drift0r: You should note for this weapon (a hardcore weapon of choice) that you shouldn't use that class. In hardcore: SVU-Silencer+Acog/Variable Zoom Pistol of choice but I say B23R Ghost Cold blooded+Fast Hands/Scavenger Tactical Mask/Engineer Equipment of choice.
Everything else equal, longer barrels do indeed improve accuracy. The longer the bullet spends in the barrel, the more it accelerates. the more it accelerates the faster, and therefore more energy, the bullet will have to overcome air resistance, etc.
According to XboxAhoy; The SVU AS is a shortened version of the original SVU meant for special forces and supposedly has a bipod and is full auto. (in RL that is)
Drift0r you forgot to mention that playing hardcore is pretty much key to getting the camos for this sniper. One could infer from the information you provided but just saying. This gun, the S12, and the M1216 need hardcore mode for their camos.

Of course, it fires the exact same cartridge as the SVD model: the powerful 7.62x54r. This is the same cartridge used by the Mosin Nagant and the PKM, and it's also one of the cartridges with the longest military life, dating back to the 1890s.
I just learned this not that long ago but the SVU-AS is a bulpup version of the Dragonov, and to those of you who say that it's OP, it NEEDS to be spamable with such weak multipliers, and it's firecap is MUCH lower than other spamable sniper in previous CoD games, the RSASS an MW3 Dragonov both fired at 1200 RPM, the M-21/14 EBR in MW2 fired at nearly 1000RPM, so in terms of spamability, it's VERY low on the list,
This is interesting language for an incredibly respectable human such as yourself. Any ways, as my rebuttal, The SVU-AS is a more mobile marksman role weapon. It's perfect for jumping from long sight line to medium range, and performs.... alrightly in CQB. It pairs well with mid range attachments like the ACOG because of these traits. Plus it has heaps of bullets.
ye. SVU in BFBC2 was fearsome with ACOG scope for CQB. Any SMG kills in 5-6 shots, but you can kill in 2-3. Although, the ammunition in BC2 was so small. I think 6 rounds per mag? Enough for 2 kills in quick succession, but poor for sustained usage ;(
Yes, they are real as well. Off the top of my head I can't think of a single weapon in the BO2 multiplayer that's not a real weapon. The weapons I listed were only the ones he listed that I remembered to not have their name changed. Other weapons without a namechange are the MP7, the DSR and the AN-94 for example.
i thought that too then i went for gold in core mode cause i hate hardcore and i was really surprised how easy is to get headshots with this gun. i have 2k plus kills with it and almost 800 headshots. to me this is one of the most powerful gun in the game, i mean you don't even need a pistol, at close range all you have to do is hipfire and spam that trigger, 80% of the time you'll get the kill
SVU isn't nooby unless you are using it like a FAL with an ACOG or whatnot. I usually hit with the first shot and then the second. It is still my sniper of choice because you can take out so many enemies so quickly and being suppressed barely affects it.
not necessarily, if you can just aim at head level and know the correct time to shoot so the recoil doesn't mess you up, you can get a lot of one shot kills and get gold camo
At the start you said the SVU is similar to the Dragunov for previous CoD's. This might be because the SVU-AS is a variant of the Dragunov SVD. So it feels similar to the Dragunov, because it is a Dragunov.
He means that the ONLY way to get the One Shot kill medals for the camos without playing hardcore is headshots, and the enemy can't be damaged already, and that takes a lot of skill/luck.
It is a great sniper rifle and my first choice, FMJ will reduce the deficit from shooting thru walls, I bet it wont 1 shot headshot through a wall which it should if it did what your saying, and i would say it has the least recoil or sway in my personal opinion, And out of any gun i would say it is based off the M21.
i think treyarch should add a dlc sniper that is full auto at a rof of 500, being a 2 hit kill everywhere at close range, and then it drops to a 3 hit kill. kinda like an assault rifle except it can have scopes
Except for the fact that most of the weapons listed there actually are just modeled after a real life weapon (and by that I mean that they did NOT change the look of the weapons) and given a fictional name (the M27, MK28 and the HAMR are the only ones that you listed that I know for sure that they have not underwent a name change)
You horribly misunderstood their comment. They meant a .50cal [only] needs 1200 meters to do that massive damage; a whole 12 inches (a foot). The range is actually much more dependent on the kind of sniper-rifle being used, rather than the kind of bullet.

It's easy to use but when you're going for the "250 one hit kills" to get to gold it's annoying.
it's literally the same as every other gun. 250 one shot kills is basically 250 headshots

You're right Driftor, the SVU is based on the Dragunov. It's a bullpup modification of the basic SVD Dragunov rifle.

What many people dont know is that you can for the first time in a call of duty game hold your breath with the ACOG. And the SVU has a lower zoom level then the rest of the snipers.
No what I was talking about was that guns in call of duty are actually held to the shoulder. I frequently "hipfire" when caught on the move without my rangers out in MW2. Hipfire just sounds better. And in real life you can shoot it from the shoulder pretty fast if you know how to hold it without aiming down the sights.
He did. In Core games modes you have 100 health, in Hardcore you have 30 health. The SVU does 70 damage, with a multiplier of 1.5x to the head. Meaning that headshots will be a 1 shot kill, while everything else is a 2 shot kill. With a Silencer, your headshot multiplier is removed making even headshots 2 shots to kill. In Hardcore, the SVU-AS is a 1 shot kill no matter where you shoot.

"SVU" is actually the "technical" name for the bullpup draganov, like m72 for the law rocket. So the SVU is the draganov.
Everything else equal, longer barrels do indeed improve accuracy. The longer the bullet spends in the barrel, the more it accelerates. the more it accelerates the faster, and therefore more energy, the bullet will have to overcome air resistance, etc.
According to XboxAhoy; The SVU AS is a shortened version of the original SVU meant for special forces and supposedly has a bipod and is full auto. (in RL that is)
Drift0r you forgot to mention that playing hardcore is pretty much key to getting the camos for this sniper. One could infer from the information you provided but just saying. This gun, the S12, and the M1216 need hardcore mode for their camos.

I preferred the SVU with a Variable Zoom scope and Fast Mags but that's just because I can get those head shots nearly all of the time.

Yeah, because the Dragunov SVU is the same rifle as the Dragunov SVD, except in a bullpup configuration (the U in "SVU" stands for "shortened" in Russian).
Of course, it fires the exact same cartridge as the SVD model: the powerful 7.62x54r. This is the same cartridge used by the Mosin Nagant and the PKM, and it's also one of the cartridges with the longest military life, dating back to the 1890s.
I just learned this not that long ago but the SVU-AS is a bulpup version of the Dragonov, and to those of you who say that it's OP, it NEEDS to be spamable with such weak multipliers, and it's firecap is MUCH lower than other spamable sniper in previous CoD games, the RSASS an MW3 Dragonov both fired at 1200 RPM, the M-21/14 EBR in MW2 fired at nearly 1000RPM, so in terms of spamability, it's VERY low on the list,
This is interesting language for an incredibly respectable human such as yourself. Any ways, as my rebuttal, The SVU-AS is a more mobile marksman role weapon. It's perfect for jumping from long sight line to medium range, and performs.... alrightly in CQB. It pairs well with mid range attachments like the ACOG because of these traits. Plus it has heaps of bullets.
ye. SVU in BFBC2 was fearsome with ACOG scope for CQB. Any SMG kills in 5-6 shots, but you can kill in 2-3. Although, the ammunition in BC2 was so small. I think 6 rounds per mag? Enough for 2 kills in quick succession, but poor for sustained usage ;(
Yes, they are real as well. Off the top of my head I can't think of a single weapon in the BO2 multiplayer that's not a real weapon. The weapons I listed were only the ones he listed that I remembered to not have their name changed. Other weapons without a namechange are the MP7, the DSR and the AN-94 for example.

i thought that too then i went for gold in core mode cause i hate hardcore and i was really surprised how easy is to get headshots with this gun. i have 2k plus kills with it and almost 800 headshots. to me this is one of the most powerful gun in the game, i mean you don't even need a pistol, at close range all you have to do is hipfire and spam that trigger, 80% of the time you'll get the kill
Look up FMJ in depth ,it just improves wall penetration ability.
SVU isn't nooby unless you are using it like a FAL with an ACOG or whatnot. I usually hit with the first shot and then the second. It is still my sniper of choice because you can take out so many enemies so quickly and being suppressed barely affects it.
not necessarily, if you can just aim at head level and know the correct time to shoot so the recoil doesn't mess you up, you can get a lot of one shot kills and get gold camo
At the start you said the SVU is similar to the Dragunov for previous CoD's. This might be because the SVU-AS is a variant of the Dragunov SVD. So it feels similar to the Dragunov, because it is a Dragunov.
He means that the ONLY way to get the One Shot kill medals for the camos without playing hardcore is headshots, and the enemy can't be damaged already, and that takes a lot of skill/luck.

This is the bo2 equivelant of the SVU in ghosts; good for taking out other snipers.
It is a great sniper rifle and my first choice, FMJ will reduce the deficit from shooting thru walls, I bet it wont 1 shot headshot through a wall which it should if it did what your saying, and i would say it has the least recoil or sway in my personal opinion, And out of any gun i would say it is based off the M21.
i normally use acog & silencer, lil tip to unlock the camo's quick, do what drift said and play hardcore, you will have a gold svu in a day!

i think treyarch should add a dlc sniper that is full auto at a rof of 500, being a 2 hit kill everywhere at close range, and then it drops to a 3 hit kill. kinda like an assault rifle except it can have scopes
Except for the fact that most of the weapons listed there actually are just modeled after a real life weapon (and by that I mean that they did NOT change the look of the weapons) and given a fictional name (the M27, MK28 and the HAMR are the only ones that you listed that I know for sure that they have not underwent a name change)
You horribly misunderstood their comment. They meant a .50cal [only] needs 1200 meters to do that massive damage; a whole 12 inches (a foot). The range is actually much more dependent on the kind of sniper-rifle being used, rather than the kind of bullet.
I have a question regarding the Ghost perk- I understand that you are invisible to UAVs while in motion, but does it also apply to an Orbital VSAT?
Given you're not suggesting any grenades or tacs, it's entirely plausible to take a wildcard and use Toughness and Fast Hands.
SVU is a beast on Hardcore, even with the suppressor.
