- This is just a fun video on how I set up my 99 Amigo desert toy. I love Isuzu's and have owned 5 others. This is my 2nd 99 Amigo I've built, they work great, and are as tough as nails !
Check out my fun video of my last Amigo day in the desert below

That's a seriously nice looking truck. Lots of simple solutions and diy mods. It's nice to see someone who didn't just throw a parts catalog at a project.
Yeah thats not me Rich, please take a look at my bikes and builds on my little channel. Thanks Dale
I was gifted a 99 Isuzu Amigo....grateful for my mechanic....she is awesome with finding parts. Had to replace the fuel tank...basic stuff....now breaks
Nice , have fun with it Dawn !
Im in the same boat! May i ask where you found a replacement fuel tank for the amigo?? Thanks

Thank you, and your welcome Adam ....... Cheers Dale
Gorgeous!
Greetings from Portugal, where we have that same car known as the Opel Frontera Sport edition.
Hi Vitor ........ That is very cool, they are very strong and work well ! Amigo Frontera .....Is a good name Ha ha !
@@DaleWalkerHoleshot indeed! Greetings.
I used to have one 1988 I miss my amigo a lot good memories lots of fun
They are really strong !
Wawww that truck looks 100% better than the day that left the manufacture
Thanks John ....... I'm a bit of a nut when it comes to the little details .... Cheers DW
Hi neighbor...I’m in Reno and have a ‘99 Rodeo with ARB front bumper and Warn Winch. Mine has 33k miles on it and the original owner. I also added 3 inch exhaust and it sounds great. I love mine too.
You have done a great job on yours. I really like it. Thanks for the video, really enjoyed it.
Hi RD, Crap you better drive over to Yerington for a visit some day. Have you seen my little video of my first one I built. 33K miles is also great, and really hard to find. You can look at my web site to find me. www.holeshot.com Cheers Dale
Dale Walker Hi Dale, I use to sell auto parts all through the area from the 70’s to the early 2000’s. I’m coming down soon to visit a buddy in Smith Valley. I’ll check your website out. Thanks Roger D.
@@rd.7732 Yeah just give me a call at the shop when you do RD. Cheers Dale
great little rig. Would love to own one of these
There out there, you just have to hunt !
Dale walker I’ve got a 2000 amigo V6 Love it It’s stock besides the cold air intake
Nice, have fun with it ... DW
Dale Walker All this work on the 2000? Tried researching it and can’t find much
@@drlovins3394 Need to look harder, everything is out there to build one like mine. Don't expect bumpers and tons of parts like Jeeps. I've had two Jeeps and a new Rubicon, I have just as much fun in my Amigo, and can go everywhere in the desert I need to. Also drives so much better down the road than the solid axle wandering Jeep.
Love it! Been modding my 02 Rodeo Sport. Would love to bring it to your shop and have you take a look some day.
Nice, they work much better than most people know ........ I don't do any outside work sorry ! Cheers Dale
Beautiful 👍🏼
Thank you
@@DaleWalkerHoleshot yeah my brother-in-law had one and we took a trip to six flags such a beautiful truck a fun to drive

I have the same car. I have coated the chassis en rebuild him. Nice to know wich parts you need for lift him up
@Dale Walker thanks for shearing it. I Have bougt now a complete old men 2 inch lift kit. I am waiting for delevery now
The lift is badass. I have a 2001 rodeo sportand this lift is perfect for what I do. I know it's a lot to ask but I would love to get a parts list from you for this lift and tires. If not I totally understand. Thanks for the video and the inspiration.
Sorry I don't have a list, but do mention the parts in this video and Part 2. Link is above , Cheers Dale
Hi just saw this video nice job I have a 99 I'm still the first owner. And it has 198925 mile and still going I'm thinking of lifting it just the way u did.
Neat that you kept it that long, and I hope my video's help you out a bit. DW
Nice ride! I'm thinking real hard about getting a local 98' V6 model. It's in pretty good shape as it looks like it was just daily'd. I got so many questions about these things. Would you say there is anything needed to change to help make the vehicle immediately better from stock?
A good set of shocks and at least crank up the front 1" or so with the torsion bars. The front doesn't have that much travel. and are was to soft at the stock settings.
I just purchased a 99 Amigo today. I’m looking through UA-cam, I came across your channel. You mention you live in Northern Nevada. I live in Fernley. I was wondering if I can pick your brain on these Amigos. I’m coming from Toyota pickups. My experience with these Amigos is none. Anything you could share would be appreciated. I want to set it up as a moderate off roader.
If you look close and both my vids, I pretty much list what I did, and parts used for my build. This is my 2nd one set up like this ! Id let you come and look at it, but my Amigo is now at my other place in Dayton. Cheers Dale
@@DaleWalkerHoleshot awesome. Do you feel that it’s a capable rig? I do a lot of local wheeling, Jumbo Grade, Peavine, Hunter Creek, and Moon Rocks. I’d like to fit 33” on it ultimately. I watched the videos. I like many of the things you did, I’ll use them in my own Amigo. Maybe someday we’ll meet out on the trails. I run areas all around Dayton along the Carson River.
Super clean, any issue getting frt alignment done? I’m a original owner of a 99 that I’m rebuilding, 73,000 but being in the Midwest I’m dealing with some frame rust. Sandblasting, grinding and painting. , After trial fitting I know I will need front fender mod to get the new tires and wheels to fit after doing similar lift
Got mine close to done, able to drive it now. wish I would have done this lift years ago. Drives and handles so much better.
Any videos on sunroof leaking repairs? Besides cleaning the drain, any suggestions would be great to see.
Never had to deal with mine David. I did block it off with bubble insulator to keep the heat out more. DW
I love the Isuzu amigos and I am gonna get one ☝️
They are a great vehicle for sure !
@@DaleWalkerHoleshot awesome thanks for the fast reply kudos
@@gnecioj809 Cheers
So which shocks are you using front and rear? I have searched the PNs you have provided and it states that the 179 has 8 inches of travel and the 136 only 5.3 inches of travel.
Those are the correct part numbers
does the front use the same shock as the rear?
Reminds me of my fj80
Hey Dale, sweet ride. I have a 99 Amigo myself. Do you have any idea on how to replace the heater core on it?
Best to buy a shop manual ,study and do the work. Its not that hard !
my dad just bought me an 03 rodeo and its really tough to find any parts for it. I really want to do an overland build mainly for easy to medium trails so if you have recommendations on manufactures it would be highly appreciated.
There are a few websites out there if you hunt that offer OEM parts
www.isuzuparts.com/
www.isuzupartscenter.com/
Do you know how to remove the hard top? There appears to be little to no information at all on it.
They bolt on Sandra , so take a close look
How have you changed the left upper stay arm so hit wont hit the gas tank ?
It will need to be cut near the rear and put a radius bend in it, with a new piece of tubing. This has to be done by someone that welds properly, and can bend and cut tubing. You can put it all together and drive it with the straight original, but don't off road until you modify it for proper clearance at full droop.
Hi! good days! I haven't seen your entire video yet, but I believe you like the Jeep Isuzu Amigo very much. I'm trying to put together a 1994 year, but here in Brazil, in the capital Manaus, Amazonas it is very difficult. How could you tell me about reliable stores that import parts? Thanks for the video and success to you.
I'm not sure on that sorry
Got me a 98 Rodeo V6 With 53,500 miles on it. I did a little torsion lift in front added 255 70 16 tires and got the 16x7 1/2 stock Rodeo mags from the bone yard stripped & polished them. Original owner hardly drove it. Retired teacher. She Did not even tint the windows or remove the plastic on the rear seat!
I wonder if the timing belt has aged out or is it solely based on miles the engine? the thing is pristine inside & out. Last thing do you know what shocks to get? I was worried the Ranchos might be to large but I have no clue. This is a 2 WD I put Desert Dueler HT tires not trying to do much more than driving the rutted highways & some dirt trails here in Socal. Thanks
Jeff
Hi Jeff, nice to find one with those low miles for sure. Your most likely ok with the timing belt, but with age you never really know. Cheers Dale
@@DaleWalkerHoleshot Cool thanks I guess I will just stick to the book and get it then
I have a 01 rodeo with a bad motor. The body is in great shape, so I hate to scrap it. Thinking of swapping the engine to a Chevy LS. that stock v6 is pricey!
That would be a neat project Ben !
I'm looking for the front Rancho shock part numbers if you wouldn't mind sharing it. Sweet Amigo!
I show it right in this video, Cheers DW
@@DaleWalkerHoleshot I got the rear shock part number but must have missed the part you show the front. Thanks.
Did sand it or just spray the bed liner over the pain on the bumpers? I got a Rodeo sport same car. My hard top is also white. I should be doing the same thing as you
Hi Samuel, Tape it off and go over it evenly with new purple scuff pads. Then wipe down with paint prep Dupli- Color degreaser wax remover. Spray it on a warm day ! Cheers Dale
How do you turn the torsion keys? Just bought my first 99 amigo!
With a big socket and breaker bar. Just crawl under there and follow the bar front to back, you will find them trust me. Cheers Dale
Great info here Dale, my build is coming out pretty similar to yours. Did you ever mess around with a bracket or extension for the track bar/ panhard bar to level it out, or was yours already custom made? Thanks, beautiful ride.
Nope I did not have to on both my Amigo builds Hunter ... Cheers Dale
@@DaleWalkerHoleshot Thanks Dale!
Anyone made a list they can post of all the parts?
Check out my other video in the link above Castor.
My son friends father gave him this vehicle for 18th birthday and graduation gift my son is so excited
Sweet !
What offset did you go with on those wheels?
I like the stance.
Let me go back and check !
What parts you use for lift front and rear? please, i have amigo 99 4wd and rodeo sport 02 2wd
Crank up the torsion bars in the front, and Old Man Emu Rear springs. But you need to proper length shocks front and back, and be sure to do the mod to the left upper stay arm or it will hit in the gas tank / tank skid plate at full droop. Its also good to make limit straps if you run it hard , so the shocks dont top out in the back, and also keep a slight tension on the springs at full droop. Cheers Dale Walker
Dale Walker thanks 🙏 i love this cars
@@hajmontfort Anytime !
I need wheel spacers, where I buy? my car is isuzu amigo 1998 v6 4x4
I dont use wheel spacers on my Isuzu builds. Just go by the bolt pattern and the center holes and find them on the net. E bay has many listed. DW
As you calli it the rear trailing arm-or the mount for both sides of the differential. My right side sway bar mount is rusted and broke. The upper part that attaches to it. Do you know anyone who can repair that for isuzu rodeo?
It would be best to find a good one at a wreaking yard Griff. Dale
@@DaleWalkerHoleshot thanks, but unfortunately this would require welding, not just part replacement.
How do you uninstall the roof top
The rear top bolts on and off.
I would love to get a Amigo or a Rodeo sport, but im a bit concerned about parts availability in the US. What's your experience been like?
Most of all the hard parts to rebuild or replace are available. Like any older vehicle some OEM parts go away one by one. DW
@@DaleWalkerHoleshot Good to know, thank you!
@@rnthiphop Cheers DW
How long are the limit straps?
Cant remember, will need to look in my build file ..... DW
have you ever had a 1st gen amigo? if so how does the 1st gen compare to the 2nd gen? mainly curious about the differences in suspension
Nope only two Gen 2s. DW
I had both. The first Gen was also great. 2nd Gen feels more solid and condensed. With the 2nd Gen they streamlined the overall build, but still added extra compartments, features and made the convertible top easier to manage. The 2nd Gen's 3.6L engine is a incredible.
Which old man emu springs did you use? I thought it was model number 2913. But the website says that won't fit my 99 amigo.
I would have to dig and hut for that. Not sure of I have my records to find it sorry. If I do I will be back here with the part number. I still run a spacer under each spring to dial in the ride height. DW
@@DaleWalkerHoleshot thank you. I'm guessing that the springs for the rodeo will work. I might just have to gamble on them and see if they work.
@@thaddeuscrenshaw395 Let me take a look to see if I can find the parts numbers. Dale
@@thaddeuscrenshaw395 I'm sorry, but I looked high and low and cant find the parts numbers DW
@@DaleWalkerHoleshot thank you for looking!
U should of built kits and sold em. I can't find a kit. For mine
Let me know if you ever wanna buy another amigo my son want a more newer model car and won't take to shop
Dont need another, but thank you !
Where did you get those fog lights?
From Isuzu they are the original lights
@@DaleWalkerHoleshot thanks!
Could this fit a 99 passport?
Most likely, but not 100 %
@@DaleWalkerHoleshot good enough for me 😭💀 ty
Are these good for off road?
Yes they work great for exploring and general off road duty. I put over 8000 desert mile's on my first one I built, and they weren't easy miles. Super strong frame and drive train. The important thing is be sure to keep the transmission maintained and properly serviced, with the fluid level correct. Like a few others, it does not have a fluid level dip stick so many people just drive them until they blow up ! Its easy to check and maintain either on jack stands or a car lift. ( Watch my videos above ) ... Cheers Dale Walker
@@DaleWalkerHoleshot Dale,I'm glad I found this....my transmission is starting to act up. When you say keep the fluid correct in the transmission ,can you specify?
I topped it off with fluid with the engine running, maybe I will check again.
I love my Amigo and it has really been like a good friend the past two years (130,000 miles)
@@TheVintagesteal Your only hope is to drop the pan and change the filter and fluid. Be sure to top it off while running, then drive it 2 to 3 miles just up to full temp, and check the level again. DW
My brother in law had one in black 4x4 convertible awesome truck watching this video makes me wanna buy one right away thanks great video
Passport not pilot i believe
Yep !
Been driving mine quite a bit since the lift, just loving it. Still need to drop the fuel tank at some point to get better access to some areas that I still need blast and paint. I just posted a slideshow to show the lift with the new wheels and tires. ua-cam.com/video/5RQPDzxAKhs/v-deo.html
Looks really clean, and so does your garage ! Good Job !
TKS! When I found your Isuzu vids, I thought that is similiar to what I have been trying to do for the last couple of years. Yep I'm kind of OCD with my garage and my vehicles. Planning on man cave shop with a lift someday. I'm getting to old to be working lying on my back.
@@cudaman I beat you to it, not wanting to lay on your back any longer. I'm 63 in good shape, but just went through 40 days of stage 4 prostate cancer radiation. Man I feel like crap but sure glad that's over. Need to rest up and slowly get back to my old drag bike restoration, and other projects. Oh, and work now will be 2 to 3 days a week MAX . Amigos are neat, and not to many build them, have fun with it ... Dale Walker
