I’m absolutely LOVING making this poncho!! I’m doing it in two different colours, instead of just the one. A beige colour for the solid rows and a beautiful dark teal for the decorative ones. I’m even thinking I’m going to use this pattern to make a blanket because I love it so much! Thank you!!
Tamara, you've done it again. You've msnaged to help me make the perfect gift for one of my sisters. I'm actually on Row 9 right now and it's coming along great! :-) Thanks again for the tutorial
WOW! Clearly I'll need to do a test swatch for gauge and to get comfy with the pattern of new stitches. May be reviewing this vid. 🙄 I can't use wool. Any suggestions, Tamara? I love, love your tutorials.
very pretty I just might try my hand at it. shortly. OPPPS after looking at the pattern on crastfy it might be too difficult for me but it is still pretty. I am looking for a more simpler pattern
Gosh, that's a tough one! Lots of factors - how much you spend on materials, and how much time it takes you are the two biggest factors. There are lots of formulas out there, but the easiest is to triple or quadruple the cost of materials, and then adjust from there, taking your target market into account.

When you skip the double crochet at the end of the first row of the repeat (row 3 in the pattern), do you chain one or just skip the stitch? Thank you.
+Tricia Rex I would start with one of their shirts in their current size, and measure the length from mid forearm to mid forearm (a little longer if you want to leave room to grow!). Then chain to that length, plus a couple inches. Then, work the first row with 4 dc followed by any multiple of 12 - stopping as close as you can to the end of the chain. Then you should be able to follow the pattern from there as written! :)
Por favor si pudiese ser en Español, me encanta todo lo que haces, puedes poner los centímetros de del ancho para el poncho cuadrado que me encanta. muchas gracias por hacer cosas tan bonitas, un abrazo Isabel
I've crocheted the first 5 rows of the fill size poncho and your measurements say each piece should be 47" wide and mine is over 60" wide. how does that work? I used the same kind of yarn and the same size hook.
Tamara Kelly I did not get the same gauge. to be honest I just googled gauge because I'd never used that before but I've also never used a pattern for my projects until today. so does this mean I need to use a smaller hook? my mom is size small so I think I may decrease the amount of stitches as well. I believe it has to go in increments of 12 plus 4?
It does sound like you need to use a smaller hook! :) That's normal - everyone (every designer, every crocheter) naturally has a slightly different gauge. The Perfect Fall Poncho is indeed crocheted with a multiple of 12 sts, plus 4 more. The 2 sts on the ends of each row are dc sts - this is the “plus 4.” Read more at www.mooglyblog.com/perfect-fall-poncho-tutorial/
+robin elsner Hello Robin! Yes, as mentioned in the video, it's at Mooglyblog.com. It's also linked in the video description here on UA-cam: goo.gl/1ax6gf
I am not getting the right amount of stitches, I add 16 chains to the 172 chains, when i get to the row to start the triple crochets I dont have enough stitches to follow your video, am I suppose to add the 16 to 174?????
Hi Audra! It's not a multiple of 16, it's a multiple of 12, plus 4. So if you start with the chain of 174 given in the pattern, you would just add a multiple of 12 (12, 24, 36, etc). If you are starting from scratch, you would chain a multiple of 12 (36, 48, 60, etc) and then 4 more (for a total of 40, 52, 64, etc). Does that help?
+Ligaya Bruni No, they are two rectangles, sewn together across the top, with a hole left for the neck. And I do have a video on whip stitching, which is what I used to sew them together. :)
oh boy I started this first time making a poncho and I just now skipped to the end to see how to put it together at the end and you didn't post that part.. oh boy and I don't read patterns ..

When you skip the double crochet at the end of the first row of the repeat (row 3 in the pattern), do you chain one or just skip the stitch? Thank you.
Just skip it :)
Thank you!
Hiya, if i was to make this for a 12yr and 6yr how do i determine the chain length please? Tia 😊.

It sounds like a gauge issue - did you get the same gauge as listed in the pattern?

Do you have a written pattern for this
+robin elsner Hello Robin! Yes, as mentioned in the video, it's at Mooglyblog.com. It's also linked in the video description here on UA-cam: goo.gl/1ax6gf

I will try it again, I just wanted to add 1 multiple cause i have long arms
i need to be patient :D
So you are NOT counting the turn chain as a double crochet? When I count the doubles I just ignore the turn chain?
Yes, you can see the notes at www.mooglyblog.com/perfect-fall-poncho/ along with the written pattern. :)
left hand for this video?
Both (and more details) are at www.mooglyblog.com/perfect-fall-poncho-tutorial/ :)

I forgot to ask, what's a different way to block this without using water, would a wsrm iron be better?
It depends what yarn you are using! I wouldn't let the iron touch the yarn, but steaming could be a good method! :)

You don't show up the part of the neck....❓❓❓
+Ligaya Bruni No, they are two rectangles, sewn together across the top, with a hole left for the neck. And I do have a video on whip stitching, which is what I used to sew them together. :)
Esta bonito pero pues no se entiende nada teje un poco y no explica como unirlo no entendi nada perdi mi tiempo

oh boy I started this first time making a poncho and I just now skipped to the end to see how to put it together at the end and you didn't post that part.. oh boy and I don't read patterns ..
+Lisa Brown The instructions for assembly aren't written in pattern-ese, they are doable even without pattern reading experience. :)
