Thank you Marcel, always great level headed no bull reporting on Nio, I just wish other channels covering Nio would take a page from your book and open their eyes to the challenges they face
Hey Marcel - been a long time fan and a long time Nio investor. I wanted to know your opinion on Nanalyze's recent video on Nio. He gave a different standpoint to their moat and vision. He thinks Nio's competitive advantage of swapping will erode overtime as others adopt. He said most companies won't be willing to reform their chassis to NIO's stations. He said swap stations will erode their margins overtime as more players getting into the swapping game will destroy the reason to buy NIO (for their infrastructure). Says fast charging will erode thesis to swapping and why Tesla & VW decided to not go with swapping (even though I disagree that Herbert Deiss didn't like swapping). Said Tesla is eating NIO's lunch by price and NIO isn't a leader, or even a longer-term leader in that case. Would LOVE your opinion as I usually value his opinion, so hearing a quite negative case is interesting.
I was recently at the auto show in Shanghai and some of the Chinese cars on show… just wow. I hadn’t really done too much research into Chinese car brands, so most were unknown to me, and many others I assume. But everyone will start to take notice soon, these are the brands that will lead in the future.
I think that China would reach out to help NIO if they were to get in serious financial trouble or if there were a systemic crisis in China's economy. The US bailed out GM during the 2008 financial crisis with government backed loans even though they had to surrender some equity shares. The US eventually got all their money back and then some. So, I think that just about any of the modern economies would try to help out their struggling companies one way or another because it is in that country's self-interest. That said, NIO might not be any more special than its competitors, with the exception that they've already spent a lot of dough on the development of their battery swapping and charging technologies and infrastructure. That has to be somewhat important to China as they are very eager to solve their pollution problem. Anyway, last time I checked NIO still had substantial cash on their balance sheet, so hopefully, they can use it wisely, get their margins up and execute their plan successfully. This will take a while though. Have a nice trip back to Germany!
There is no need to assist NIO Motors. The Chinese government does not have any bias towards enterprises, and the government is happy to see the reshuffle and upgrading of the Chinese automotive industry. Car companies that lose competitiveness will die
The rumour re Nio and government usage would make sense as Audis are ice cars which will no good after first of July due to ev policies so if they didn't use evs and used ice vehicles they'd be breaking their own rules.😊
So Marcel the question must be if the German Chamber Commerce knew this back in 2010 what on earth have VW/MB/BMW been doing about it for all these years? Given the money they've been making in China over all these years why have they done next to nothing to compete? Not just with EV's but with the tech as well. Put the Zeekr X next to a Golf and it looks like it comes from another planet.
In Malaysia , Govn ministry is required to BUY PROTON cars to support the National Car Brand owned by Malaysian Govn. Nothing wrong to SUPPORT their LOCAL BRAND as it is the TAX Payers money. However .... CHINA has many local Brands in EV now. My two cents is the Chinese Govn should MAKE it their POLICY to ONLY buy EV ( BEV) and Support Local Brands ONLY. Phase OUT their existing ICE vehicles . The NEXT step to to required ALL State Own Entities (SOE) to also convert to EVs and ONLY BUY local Brands. Currently Many are still buying Mercedes, AUDI, BMW, etc. whic are ICE vehicles.
I mean I think it is difficult to say, I don't think the central government wants to be seen intervening. There is an initiative that the CCP is trying to push and I personally think for them to do they need NIO to survive. That initiative is to produce quality products or high end luxury goods, while China manufactures tons of luxury goods like Apple products it is seen as a failure when it comes to Chinese brands. NIO is one of the only products that can compete in the global markets and it would be in the best interest of the CCP to keep it alive as that is where they want to shift the focus of manufacturing. Strategically China is trying to move away from producing cheap goods to mid to high end manufacturing especially with wage growth and high quantity low end products have been going away for the last decade caused by the increased standard of living and increases in wages. I would be interested to hear your take on that.
there are so many electric companies in china that produce cars , if nio will fail ' this is just one company from tenths of companies, each nio car is losing money, they only sold 6000 cars in April,in all of china , they are going back each month , i think the company lost it's way. I lost my money on those stocks.
Agree ❤ Thank you 🙏 Marcel . The government contract would make up the gap of the production estimate for 2023
I like seeing this mix of content on your channel...thanks Marcel and keep it up!

No ones coming to their rescue its either Sink or Swim😅
As a Chinese, it seems to me that the Chinese government has helped Tesla more than NIO.
Good point
I have heard, in China there is over 400 EV Startups?
these walking around china nio update videos are dope af

If you want to make money quickly, you should not buy NIO, they will only make a profit in 2024/2025. So share for long term
CPC not CCP
Will you tell us what kind of work you were doing in China or is it confidential?
