It was a little large to go chrome. You’d be surprised what a good job the black does at concealing it.
What is the difference in ball flight between the two shafts that are offered?
Love the black finish. It won't wear too badly because it's not on the face like other black irons.
Love the black with the light face makes it very easy to line up!
I'm not typically a driving iron person, and really not a black-iron person, I've moved to a Mizuno CLK20 16-degree Hybrid for that shot, but honestly, in black, with a graphite shaft, I could honestly put that in the bag
That Fli Hi looks great in its Black &silver colour scheme and it matches your Man in Black outfit👍

❇️ I just bought a preloved 2007 Mizuno Fli Hi forged 2 iron with a Aldila Hybrid stiff shaft ✅ it’s a old school forged 18 degree 2 iron ✅ I used some metal polish and it now looks super nice shiny ✨ chrome finish ❇️
Black looks sleek and beautiful! This type of club is what I’ve been figuring out if I can put in the bag. Hybrids are easy to hit, but not as much control as a utility iron. Are you going to review the new cobra adjustable loft driving iron?
It looks sleek and beautiful until you have hit it about 60 times.
I LOVE the black. My goal for my bag is to have ZERO polished chrome. I have ping 410 driver, 425 2 and 3h, 921 tour with kbs tour matte shafts. I may purchase this 2i and soon will finish with wedges in black with the same kbs shafts. Stealth everything! I love it.
There have been a lot of good looking driving irons and black finished ones...but for me that is the best looking black finished driving iron I have ever seen.
One thought of the black looking iron is so in the bag you can find it easier when going to a long iron over the 225 or so irons....Just a thought....
I just bought the Fli Hi 3 and I love the black. It separates it in my bag as the club to grab off the fairway on long holes. I'm hitting it further than my fairway wood, so super happy.
Chris do you hit your 3 FlyHi further than a 5 wood? I’m debating on adding thr 2 FlyHi since i have a really hard time hitting a fairway wood off the deck
@@chadpeace5852 I've actually added a 2 Fli Hi as well. So my bag is Driver, 16.5º fairway wood, 2 and 3 Fli Hi then the rest.
Average distances for me now (50 year old, 16 hcp):
Driver is 220-240m
Fairway wood 200-215m
2 iron 180-195m
3 iron 160-175m
I also use the 2 iron as a bit of an escape club if I need a low shot under branches.
The caveat on that all is that I got fitted and had lessons.
Weird request but I’d love to see this vs the MP18 Flihi model and see what differences/progression its made and if its worth upgrading. Any chance of seeing that video?
Mizuno Irons are just pure class & feel still play the MP20S , been looking for a 3 iron to feel the gap between 4 iron & 4 wood Mizuno have done it again love the look of the black look ,absolutely looks stealth looking the black sheep in the bag going to look sick in the tour bag 3 iron cant wait playing in Perth Australia lots of sun glare the black will take that away .
Completely agree with the criticism of the colour. Would love it in chrome to match my 225’s but not very interested in it in black.
I’ve been eyeballing this Fli Hi ever since it was announced. I don’t mind the color but would have loved color options. We most definitely need a driving iron comparison.
Great stuff, Michael. I think it looks great. Still have an Adams DHY 18• driving iron in the bag and this looks like its better looking brother.

I am looking for the 223 p-6/5 with the Fli Hi at the top end. I actually like the black color. Makes it easy to recognize what I am pulling and blends into my hybrids (black color).
He's right about the color. If it's aimed at better players just keep it steel, make it satin if they want to make it duller
So what if it’s black it’s a in between club it is not a hybrid and really an iron in tha classic sense. I think it looks fine for what it’s job is.
Definitely would go with these for long irons and I would like to go back to using a 2 iron instead of driver. I am not sure about black because I want to blend it in with the rest of the irons using 3, 4 in hifli and then 5,6,7 in 225 and 8, 9 P in 221.
I wonder how this compares to the Titleist U-505.
The gunmetal finish goes great with the black shaft ...and your outfit. I like seeing the range in the background.

I could see a complaint if it was red, but it looks so clean in black. It's a hybrid iron, so maybe the thought was make it look more like a hybrid.

Love playing my Callaway 18 degree UT driving iron, but not a huge fan of the dark color on this Mizuno…

Absolutely
Appearance is always a personal thing. My current irons are Callaway Steelhead Pro, which are also black. They look great out of the box, but have not retained the color with age and use. I still like the look behind the ball though.
I wouldn't say no! Always nice to have that classic chrome finish when stepping up to the tee and whipping out a long iron - particularly if it doesn't end up in the trees! I do think the black looks slick though, just not as slick as the 221 & 225 irons it would be in the bag with.

Possibly to help differentiate from the 225 but I'm with you there I don't like the black for a driving iron. At least have an option for brushed chrome.
Like the performance of the club. Don't care for the finish. They always seem to wear off and look shabby after a short time. I'd rather have seen it look like a club that could blend very well with the rest of their irons.
It looks lovely, no real issue with the colour but I understand it's everyone's cup 'o tea. Think I'd still prefer a hybrid as miss hits suffer less than utility irons. Great review, Mike.

There is no issue with it being black... I find it easier to focus the ball with a darker iron.

I would be ok with Black, but I currently have a 2008 MP Fli Hi cut muscle 24 degree 4 iron. I would wonder if the 225 would "now" be better my 4 iron. It is my 215-220 club and i have 3 hybrid. Decisions, decisions.

Seriously doubt there is much difference between brands in this category.......not a huge fan of black in long iron but can just grab Original fli hi......

If you can 4hit a 3 iron clean in the fairway beyond 200 yds., you don't need this and will just take-up space in your bag. Plus you'll probably just cry and ruin your day everytime paint is scratched by hidden stones or pebbles when taking divots in fairway

Color doesn't matter to me, its all about performance. If I strike it long and can work it, it could be purple for all I care. :)
I ordered club 5 weeks before release date and haven’t received club or an update. Anyone else having this issue? Seems like Mizuno is only brand still struggling with delivering clubs since Covid. All
Other major brands are not having these issues. Sad since Mizuno is a great brand but if issues continue it will lead to customers including me to go elsewhere.
In Europe it hasn’t released yet hence no delivery. Other brands are also struggling with deliveries cos of Covid
