Nailed it this time. It’s definitely about the profile down the ball, not winning best looking what’s in the bag. Not to mention it does blend in for us mortals using graphite shaft.
Longest iron I carry in my bag is a strengthed loft 4 iron from my Taylormade PM7MC's. Goes really nicely and is workable. I use a SIM2 Titanium 3 wood @13.5 degrees. I've tried a 2iron and a 5 wood to bridge the gap. I find my 19 degree rescue does the best job and gives me most options.
Great 2nd video - this club really is going to be a driving iron that I think people buy. If you have, or can get your hands on, the Mizuno CLK20 #2 16-degree Hybrid, a club that I use, I would love to see a direct comparison because I absolutely love my CLK20 #2. If you do get the club, open it 1-click to 15-degrees - it makes it perfectly anti-left and an amazing fairway finder.
I think the black was the correct colour choice. The club fits between an iron and a hybrid (or replaces a hybrid). Their hybrids are black. The HU has the face of an iron (and similar colour to an iron) with the body (and colour) of a hybrid. I think it is the perfect club to blend irons and hybrids and Mizuno have nailed it, again. I had to give up my traditional 1 and 2 irons as I simply don't have the speed anymore to get them airborne enough. But now this new breed of driving (utility) iron seems to solve that issue, I may revert to using one. Definitely some testing warranted. Cheers Mike.
Playing links courses which are windy the utility iron is the go to club. My Srixon U 45 2 iron bent to 16 degrees is the one club that's not negotiable in my bag. Depending on course and conditions I often drop a wedge and put a MP 18 3 hifli in the bag Live the look of the new Mizuno Hifli. Cannot wait to try it.
2 UDI Iron all day. I love the low flight, distance and consistency from it. My new 2 iron has taken the place of the FW. 230-250 now being winter and windy. If I need longer, step up to driver. I hate hybrids even with x-Stiff shafts; I still hit it left.
Always loved long irons always a 2, 3, 4 player in my 20s and 30s...now 41,still have speed, albeit less, have a 3 and 4 Exotics 220 Ti Utility with the 80 gram graphite shifts allow me to still shape shots and hit distances I used to get with my old 3iron and 4iron with the heavy steel shafts so much easier...thank you technology! plus toe and heel hits lose so much less distance and are still near the target...will be getting the 2 iron 17* this next spring...cheers and happy holidays!
To be fair, I have the Mizuno S18 wedges in the gunmetal colour. It's a similar vibe with the dark club and light face. I actually love the look of it. I also just bought the fli hi in 3i to replace my U505 2i as I'm not getting on with the shaft. this is literally the perfect video as I'll put both in place and see what works out best
I currently play the Mizuno H5 3i at 21*. I have to say I really like the black finish. I’m not sure I’d go to the 19* 3i but I suppose I could strengthen the 4i to get better gapping. I finally ended my year long experiment with hybrids and saw an instant drop in handicap from reliable direction control. I’ll have to go and hit this club at some point. Great follow up review.
The smash factor on the mizuno is superb. Driver like. I can’t wait to try it out. The sandblasted face is all you notice and the rest of the clubs disappears. I love that. Great video
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you Michael. You're one of the best out here.. Thanks for all you do. ✌️🇺🇸 It's sharp looking club. As you asked, I replaced my 4 iron with a utility last season and have a hybrid 3. I do like the different flights I can get with that 4 utility. I feel I can only get high flights with the hybrid and with the utility I can control flight characteristics better. Just my feel.
I had a love hate relationship with the Titleist u500 I used to have. Never could find the right shaft combo for me. Honestly didn't hit it much better than some of my old blade 2 irons. I am willing to give other utilities a try in the future and this could well be one of them.
The u500 is like the new T200, it’s a workable long iron replacement.. the u505 and pro fli hi are highly forgiving sort of crossover btwn iron and hybrid.. you should give it a try big diff in look and performance
I’ve now hit the pro fli hi and I’ll just say don’t judge it on looks, it’s a beast especially off short tee.. planning to buy 2i ver for 3w replacement on windy days
Changed from the Hybrid to the U505 2 iron earlier in the year and love it. especially the lower ball flight great alternative off the tee. the hybrid tended to climb a bit too much into the wind for me.
In my younger days I carried Mizuno TP-11 1 & 2 irons, then I went on to PingZing2 1 & 2 irons so long irons has been preferred over fw woods because I had problems hitting fw woods off the turf. In more recent years I have been trying modern fw woods and hybrids with various results and at the moment I actually carry both a TM Sim DHY 3 and a TM Sim Ti 5w @ 17.5 degrees. Like the DHY since it actually plays like a very forgiving, chunky 3 iron with nice distance right between my 4i and my 5w.
I like the black. Hides some of the that sole width/backside and the contrast of the face seems to help too. I still think the Srixon ZX utility is the cleanest looking though! It would be good to see a comparison against the 1 iron U505 with the mizuno clocking in at 16.5° and the U505 1 iron at 16°
Hi Michael, how would this compare to the MP20 HMB 2iron, be interested in a head to head video to see different ball flights, easier to launch, more forgiving etc?
Hi Michael, Great channel, excellent golf swing! Can you do a comparison of the FLI HI 4iron vs 225 or HMB 4iron? I play a blended set pw-7 MP-20 & 6-4 HMB. This new fli hi seems like a cool replacement for the 4 iron. Its my opinion that a 2 iron will never be as versatile as a 2 hybrid especially if you like hitting a hybrid off the tee as your fairway finder, and I loved my 2 iron, I just couldn't argue the data. I think the 4 driving iron option has a lot of potential for better players to get some more value out of their 4 iron. Thanks
I love the “idea” of hitting my Wilson Staff 18 degree utility iron, but I hit my Mizuno Fli-hi 20 degree hybrid as far and way more consistently. If I ever get lessons I hope I can hit the center of my irons more often, as right now my miss is toe-side and it’s very punishing.
I've currently got a 2hy sim2 but with low cg so great for low flights off the tee. Currently got 3hy g410 but going to replace with 3 iron because I'm much more comfortable with iron off the deck and can be used off the tee and keep 2hy fir tee only
For me, it depends on the course, the day and how I'm swinging on the day. I have a 2, 3, 4, iron and/or 3 hybrid, 4 hybrid I should try the Flyhi and I think the looks may be OK. I wonder how it'll wear. I had a set of blue wedges from Mizuno. They looked ragged out sooner than I hoped/expected
I’ve just ordered the U505 as it felt so easy to hit and I didn’t hit a bad shot, 3 iron was flighting 225/230 every time without really trying. I hate the hybrid look and I just do not like the look at address, always feels like someone has cut the back off my 5 wood 🤷♂️
I think it’s kinda what they did with the ES21 wedge which i game. U look at it and it’s chunky, lots of help but when I sit it behind the ball it looks like a traditional wedge. I think the black and grey have something to do with it. Maybe since it worked with the wedge they did it with the fly high since you can see back of club at address. Just my opinion.
Hi Michael. Love your channel. I just got a new set of Mizuno JPX 921 Hot Metal irons. I love them. I have 5 iron through pitching wedge. I play a Callaway Mavirk 3 wood. So there's a rather large gap between the 3 wood and the 5 iron. I'm looking to fill that gap but I don't like hybrids. Will this Mizuno driving iron be a good fit? Would a traditional Mizuno jpx Hot Metal 4 iron to match my set be better? Does the 4 driving iron go further than the standard 4 iron?
Good video. Has both the clubs been fit to your spec. Lie angle especially. Wonder how it would end up if you visited the mizuno centre for a fitting to do a video. Or get them to you same as you did once with Lawrence from PXG. That would be interesting for us all. Doing all the new irons too. If you can make it happen just so we can all see the benifits from a fit. Have a great Christmas with the family 🎅👌🏼 here's to a better 2022 for everyone too. All the best Ian
The black looks like the gloss black of the Mizuno ES21 wedges - never liked that look, whereas I really like the matt black of the Mizuno S18 wedges (which I play)...the black finish wears down in a very attractive way. I do wonder whether the gloss black is better at hiding the bulk of the club than a matt black finish
Looks like this is a perfect club for pros on windy links courses in Scotland, Ireland and England. But with just 16 degrees of loft and a launch angle of only 9.4 degrees, it seems like you absolutely must have your kind of swing speed, 100 mph. It probably is not the right club for a senior average handicapper who can't hit his driver as far as you are hitting these two irons. That player probably has to stick with fairway woods. Still, always enjoy your demos and learn from them.
Michael. I love long irons, the question is whether it makes sense for low swing speeds (senior golfer) or better to use hybrids that lift the ball earlier. What do you think?
A 2 Hybrid is longer. Can be turned into a 1 iron for lower flight and combat the snap hook that long iron hitters struggle with. You said all of that in Feb when comparing TM driving iron against their Sim 2 Hybrid 2. So you must be sponsored on this video. Everyone knows hybrids are much easier to hit and a lot more forgiving. Not to mention that the TM driving irons are longer and the Mizuno's cost way too much. So much it is ridiculous.

Love the sound pand the colors
Mizuno looks great Michael, I just find Ping g410 hybrid easier to hit out of fluffy lie. Will maybe give Pro flight Hi a try at driving range.
Looking forward to buying the Mizuno in the 2 & 4 irons.

I switch between p790 2 iron and sim max 3 hybrid.
Using hybrid recently as there is no run out in the winter conditions
I’ve now hit the pro fli hi and I’ll just say don’t judge it on looks, it’s a beast especially off short tee.. planning to buy 2i ver for 3w replacement on windy days
❇️ I have a 2008 Mizuno Fli Hi 18 degree with a Ventus VeloCore Shaft ✅
Changed from the Hybrid to the U505 2 iron earlier in the year and love it. especially the lower ball flight great alternative off the tee. the hybrid tended to climb a bit too much into the wind for me.
Was an HMB but moved to a T200 2 iron as easier to shape and far faster off the face plus less offset
In my younger days I carried Mizuno TP-11 1 & 2 irons, then I went on to PingZing2 1 & 2 irons so long irons has been preferred over fw woods because I had problems hitting fw woods off the turf. Get it in the Bag, you know that you want to👍👍
"Links bomber" / "Wind-beater" ie looking to change from Mizuno H5 1i & 2i to FlyHi asap to fit gap between 2 mini driver, 5 wood to MP5 3i to PW 👍👍👍

Hi Michael, how would this compare to the MP20 HMB 2iron, be interested in a head to head video to see different ball flights, easier to launch, more forgiving etc?
The black looks nice, would be cool if they offered the irons in a matching finish.
Hi Michael, Great channel, excellent golf swing! Can you do a comparison of the FLI HI 4iron vs 225 or HMB 4iron? I play a blended set pw-7 MP-20 & 6-4 HMB. Same here have 3&4 but hybrid is easier☹️
I think its smart to go black in the Di, that way you can separate them easier from the standard irons.
Can’t wait to test them soon! Got my eyes on the 221’s
Second thoughts tried the 223’s today and all I’ll say is WOW 🤩
Going to give it a try..not happy with the consistency of my hybrid...going with the 4...

Damn thats what we call "Slapping some Doinks" in my book! you crush that puppy!
haha
I use 16* and 19* clk hybrids and a Sub 70 699U Pro 22* 4 iron. I love all of them. Want to compare the Fli Hi 4 iron to the 699U.
I like the black.
I have the Titleist 505 utility like the lower flight and hybrids look like hockey sticks
Bought the 2 iron fli hi and now considering the 4 iron to replace my more traditional hybrid, only issue is the time I have to wait for it.

IF money is no object,,,then get one, but using it depends on the course and shape of fariways for me....Thanks for the review....

Not a fan of the big section out the back. Decided and bought the u500 from Titleist a month ago can’t wait to hit it in the simulator.
The black looks like the gloss black of the Mizuno ES21 wedges - never liked that look, whereas I really like the matt black of the Mizuno S18 wedges (which I play)...the black finish wears down in a very attractive way.

It's got to be control for me, the hybrid or wood in the rough.
Remember, you loved the MP-20 HMB 2 iron... So of course this one
Can you perhaps do a Mizuno 223 pro vs Srixon zx7 video ? Would love to see those 2 irons up against eachother !
Michael.
I love long irons, the question is whether it makes sense for low swing speeds (senior golfer) or better to use hybrids that lift the ball earlier. What do you think?
Hybrids tend to suit the slower swing speed as easier to launch 👍
Do you think this could work in a 7 iron length??
Never tried a driving iron don't know what it's supposed to replace.
Do you find it easier to hit than the latest Cobra utility iron? Better feel than the cobra?
Similar in forgiveness and ease of hit, prefer looks and feel of the mizhno
Can't get your hands on the 225 2 iron yet?
I like the T200 utility better than both of them.
Wedges e21 ? …. Colour ? …. It’s the same which means it matches the masses ain’t seeing Luke Donald hitting this are you 🥳👍
Mizuno looks good. What is your current gamer 2 iron Michael?
Got a Tour Edge, hate the look of it but it does go well 😅
@@MichaelNewtonGolf did you ever consider the Wilson Staff one?

At least its not blue.
