    Picked up a ping g400 crossover this year for the purpose of getting rid of the hooky hybrid. Started using it off the Tee A LOT! Found myself hitting way more fairways and just staying in play. It's hit or miss off the fairway and rough. But again it stays in play. I probably lost 2-4 strokes a round from penalties. So this type of club is perfect for me

    Thanks for the review Mark, wouldn't it have made more sense to have hit the majority of the shots off a tee though? Where it's easier to hit with more height and distance. That's what most players who buy this club are using it for, as a driving iron. On firm courses in the wind, or tight tree lined holes / doglegs. Clearly it's not going to be a great approach club off the deck. Next time for instance, you could crank the wind up directly into on FSX, and show the advantages of this vs hitting say a 5W off the tee (That's going to balloon and go nowhere, with the possibility of getting very far offline).

    • @jimmyp6049
      @jimmyp6049 2 роки тому +1

      I totally agree.
      This club isn’t going in bags to be an approach club. Off
      The tee and maybe on really long par 5’s where maybe u are laying up but trying to get close so U have a wedge in hand .

    Have always been a 2 iron player. It doesn't miss massively offline where as a hybrid can be off the planet left.
    I would have liked to see you hit chippy shots with it. I play mine as a 250 club but can also hit 190 / 200. Works the way your old rinky does.

  • @quackyduck1499
    @quackyduck1499 2 роки тому +2

    I love them. Not as forgiving as a hybrid, but if I do miss hit it I'm usually just in the rough, not trying to find my ball in the trees. They're better into the wind or cross winds because I seem to launch then lower with more run out. They're also great for putting off the green than a hybrid for mine, more feel for distance.
    All in all the new long irons keep me more disciplined in my game.

    Would be interesting to see a test of hybrid vs. driving iron vs. SGI 4i e.g. ZX hybrid vs. ZX Utility vs. ZX4 4i

    Picked up an older version of these(Mizuno Fli Hi Tzoid) 18,21,24 on EBay a few years ago to replace my longer irons.Liked the ball flight as the early hybrid woods made the ball balloon.These didn’t do that.

    I don't think it's as simple as iron vs hybrid.
    I prefer irons so I can work the shot better, but a hybrid is best for bad lies / rough and can also be used in situations around the green.

      @@milesotway4466 exactly what I did - but I also gapped my irons further apart (47-degree PW to 24-degree HMB 5-iron) and this gave me 2 free clubs - so I go, 21-degree hybrid, 19-degree hybrid, 16-degree hybrid, then strong 3W & Driver. I use the Mizuno CLK20 #3 and #2 hybrids, and I actually set the #2 16-degree hybrid one-click-open to give it some anti-left protection. @@milesotway4466 amazing - it took me a year or so, with 2 trips to TXG (I almost live next door), to figure out a bag like this - and it really makes a difference. I agree completely on the different tee shots and shapes of those shots. I set my bag up with a Driver that fades, 3W that draws, #2-hybrid that fades, #3 hybrid - neutral, #4 hybrid draws - having goto shot-shapes off the tee is so important for being able to score. Are hybrids good for golf? If they were banned, you'd just see more 7Ws, and 9Ws, and even 11W to take their place. I think hybrids are good for golf. I carry a 4H and a 5H. I like the versatility of hybrids - easier to hit out of the woods because they don't dig into pine straw; better out of fairway bunkers because they don't dig into the sand; better out of light rough; I can hit about any kind of shot with my 5H (slice, fade, draw, hook, punch, low, high, chip) - it's one of my favorite clubs.

    Personally I've always been an irons player. I have a 3 wood in my bag. But I find that if i miss the Fairway, that my 2 and 3 irons have been my heros out of the low rough. If i'm unable to hit anything before I tee off for the first time. I'll use an iron off a low tee. It really helps me warm up before hitting driver or any woods. Btw i'm a mid handicapper, and this off season, I plan on getting refitted for new irons. Thanks again, for a great unbiased review. Keep up the great work, Cheers!

    Maybe Srixon can send you an 18° ZX utility to mess around with for a while? It might find a home...

    I think I will stick to a hybrid mate - maybe if I get down my handicap to single figures I would think about it...

    Fli me hi! Love the look. Probably not for me unless I was hitting balls regularly with some good precision on the strikes. Have to give it a go if I see it in a shop. Still gonna leave my hybrid in the bag though. Come on Mark “TRY A LITTLE HARDER”!!! LOL

    playing into wind on a lynx I think most golfers would prefer the low penetrating flights , but also the hybrid is a serious go to club for so many situations ??
    get both …

    Ordered the iron about 5 weeks before release date and haven’t received club or an update. I love Mizuno clubs but there issues with manufacturing since Covid are horrible. Other brands like Callaway , TM and Cobra have all rebounded and they haven’t for some reason. It’s a shame.

    Irons. Old Callaway Big Bertha 1996 1 iron would give any modern club a run for it's money

    I would rather play the old Adams Mini hybrid than that driving iron myself!
    Sure miss Adams golf clubs, it's why I will never play a Taylor MAde product, they bought out Adams just for the SLOT technology and closed down and absorbed one of the best innovative golf companies out there!!!

    You prefer your hybrids...but do you think that is more you're preference than you saying they are superior? I tried and tried to go from 5i to 5w but my tendency is to yank that 5w left. My irons are ping i210's and I hit my 5i (longest I have) better than I used to so I ordered a 425 4i. Right now I have more confidence that I can strike that more consistently than I was striking the 5w. Looking for the 205-210 distance, as I hit my 5i about 190.

    Being legally blind this club offers some hope for my tee shots. For me the length of shaft is critical. I can’t hit reliable tee shot with traditional drivers. This product might give a bit of hope

    I was looking at the Mizuno 225 2 iron steel shaft as my new driving iron , I think that would be better than the graphite shaft club yes or no ?

    I use one of these but only off a tee or to hit it low under the trees, too much variation in my shots on the deck

    This club looks amazing, but as a hybrid player, the confidence wouldn't be there. The chunky sole and styling would make me try it. I just feel that my distance control would be lacking.

    Irons for me, hybrids and cross over clubs launch too high. I gamed a Lynx Parallax 1 iron for years, wish I could buy something like that now.
