The Jutes were my favourite faction(single player) until I started the ERE campaign a couple of days ago. Man that's a ton of fun. Oh, and the norse names of the units, brilliant, me and my gf had a contest on who can get the pronunciation right first... she kinda won, but we had a good lol.
The berserkers are completely awesome - because of their frenzy is somehow better than others - if you use them well. they are supposed to be scrappers attacking from the back. I usually try to hide them in forests until I engage the enemy battle line and charge them in the back and hit frenzy. Yes they dont have much armor but if you time them well... pure carnage. I had a full stack battle where one of my zerker units had 450 kills after they went berserk (eg. didnt listen to commands anymore). Also the axe warband is an intermediary single player unit to deal with enemy sword or spear infantry of their level. As you have to upgrade to get the huscarls. I agree though some of them are just straight upgrades, and also the zerkers cost too much.
About nordic raid leader, I did a small test battle and he racked up nice amount of 211 kills, only being bested by my crossbowmen with 220 and 218. Viking raiders I like quite a lot, they wreck heavy infantry very nicely both thanks to precursors and their easily superior melee attack. Their primary job is to be this "Central" flanker who comes into any holes made by huscarls into enemy lines and wreck the enemy quickly. My personal favorite is 4 hirdmen for center, 2 nordic spears for flanks against cavalry, 2 viking raiders and 2 huscarls as shock troop, accompanied by 3 archers and 2 horse lords for supportive roles. 7390 price, with 8000 funds you still have room for upgrades as you want (8000 is my normal setting). 15 units in total. for 10k just go for higher tier units.
Royal huskarls have considerable more morale, its about 20% more, thats huge. I would pay the extra 75 gold just for that. Put 5 upgrades (that cost 75) on your huskarls, they will be considerably less effective them the elite ones.
Yeah, they are pretty nice for the price. In terms of raw killing power they are very equal, as the charge/melee attack is already high enough on the standard Huscarls. Headhunt though CA plz.
Maximus Decimus Meridius I think headhunt would be too much. Right now they work perfectly as they are suppose to, every projectile kills them, cav destroy them and they destroy infantry better than anything. Sounds fair enought for me. Keep in mind I LOVE using them, I just think headhund would be unfair.
I've just started playing attila and i dont know why but i chosed the jutes as my first campaign, maybe because i remember the good days of being icen in rome 2, and i find them pretty nice although their starting location makes it hard to have enough food and the religion is quite difficult, but then i found those huscarls, damn theyre too strong even though they die a bit faster than i would like, and their initial spearmen are quite acceptable, and horses, but their problem is that they lack in good archers, they dont have crossbows, their wardogs are useless and their melee swordmen are really really bad at the begining, and their pikemen are too weak in melee, but for me,their cavarly, spearmen, axe infantry and skirmishers are really good, and the royal huscarls one of the Best units of the game
"The Viking Forefathers", heh it's funny cause the Jutes were one of the peoples who made up the Anglo-Saxons. They ruled the Kingdom of Kent and the famed brothers Hengist & Horsa may have been of the Jutish people.
Jutes rock in campaign mode. All you need to do is research Huscarls. Along with your general, bring 4 huscarls, 3 bows, 6 thrall skirms, and 6 band. Set pairs of huscarls on your flanks, with band up front and skirms behind. Send skirms forward if enemy has cav or missiles to threaten your band. It also helps to have a Brace or Inspire general. The band will hold against enemy spears until your huscarls can swing around and destroy. Total wrecking crew, and upkeep is nothing. You can afford to use Levy spears if you need more cav defense, but the recruitment cost and upkeep of band units is so low it's ridiculous.
Yeah, if the units stand still. If you have an onager and the AI attacks you, which it will, the AI gets rekt.If you haveartillery the AI will attack even if it's supposed to defend. Send the dogs in and watch the carnage.
Hi, i am thinking about putting my MSI GTX 970into a SLI config... but i heard there is a stutter effect induced by the SLI configuration... you have a SLI setup, do you confirm having issues with stuttering? Is there a counter to it?
Everyone has too good cavalry and too expensive spears. The tier system creates useless units, javelin cavalry and cavalry with precursors is too expensive by far. The lack of Parthian Shot makes most skirmish cavalry near useless.
Thank you for the reply! I appreciate the feedback of a more experienced player :) Do you feel like that makes factions whom can spam melee cav (Looking at you east Romans!) more successful in Multiplayer compared to factions that can't drag along as many horses? Or would you say that any faction can currently perform decently, horses or not?
They are Old Norse similarities - Duguth might derive from "¨duge", which means to be good at something. I happened upon the word in Snorri's Saga of Kings, where chosen men sat at the "duguth" table, which suggests they were men given a special position. Gesithas are "companions". I think it might be from "to follow on a journey" or some such.
Maximus Decimus Meridius I actually found the terms on an english wikipedia article: The Gedriht were the personal followers of the chief and were sworn to die with him. The second group were the Geoguth, or young warriors. The Duguth, or old warriors, appear later in this period. Old anglo-saxon is wierd.
Neither actually. It is not entirely determined what the Jutes actually spoke, but it's probably some form of Germanic or Proto-Norse, which later developed into Old Norse and Old English.
Some is from school, where we had classes about Norwegian, starting with Old Norse and working our way up. The rest is from reading the Sagas and looking up words I don't know in dictionaries. I also try reading them in Old Norse, I can understand most of it but I can't speak it fluently or write it.
Total War Attila has one thing in common with Total War Rome 2: the Roman Empire exists in both. This game is in every way superior to Total War Rome 2.
In singleplayer the nordic warlord just doesnt lose men it's weird but they survive alot
Huscarls I are my favorite unit the game hands down. They are so damn devastating for the price.
Yep, same here.
Jutes are my favorite faction in the game.
Wow, old Norse is funky to listen to, I like it.
Nice.

Haha, cool!

In SP I have no doubt they can be very good. However, in SP I routinely get 2-300 kills on Wardogs. One stack of those costs 950 to maintain..

Before you use huscarls in game: don’t let arrows hit them and don’t put them behind the line that way they’re gotta get shot hothead most

they should of given berserker's 2 single hand axes :(

Seriously? I thought dogs dropped dead. Is that only against armor?

Hmm, I haven't noticed anything in particular to be honest.
I really want a mod that makes the huscarls recruitable in the other viking factions in campaign.
Yeah, that would be nice. I'm sure a Viking Expansion mod is inevitable.
Hey Max.
What are you thoughts on faction-balance thus far with Atilla? :)
Everyone has too good cavalry and too expensive spears. The tier system creates useless units, javelin cavalry and cavalry with precursors is too expensive by far. The lack of Parthian Shot makes most skirmish cavalry near useless.

No problem, thank you yourself!
Hey man, which faction possesses the best ranged infantry?
norse almost wear axe than swords when in battlefields.
The Saxons share a lot of nordic units, what do you think of their roster?
I like saxons because of better cav, but than... No huscarls? What is this madness?
It's decent, good cavalry and sturdy infantry. LIke most other factions, their elite infantry is too expensive to be viable.
Maximus Decimus Meridius
I wonder if all their unique units are anglo-saxon, because i never heared any of those names.

Wouldn't the jutes be speaking old english not old norse?
Neither actually. It is not entirely determined what the Jutes actually spoke, but it's probably some form of Germanic or Proto-Norse, which later developed into Old Norse and Old English.
Were do you learn those ancient names?
Some is from school, where we had classes about Norwegian, starting with Old Norse and working our way up. The rest is from reading the Sagas and looking up words I don't know in dictionaries. I also try reading them in Old Norse, I can understand most of it but I can't speak it fluently or write it.
That is awsome you are from a northern country or you just intresting in this culture?
I am Norwegian, yes.
ok keep doing the good work?
ya i love the jutes too
My favorite faction
Me 2!
Same!
Why the Jutes have a nordic units??? Same with the Saxons...CA logic
its like rome total war2 which is total garbage
Total War Attila has one thing in common with Total War Rome 2: the Roman Empire exists in both. This game is in every way superior to Total War Rome 2.
Just a guess, but I presume you're from one of the Nordic nations?
Very gut.
I had no idea that you were nordic, wich country? :D
simontigerhajen Norwedenmark. Jk, Norway.
Norway, yep.
Maximus Decimus Meridius splendid
Fuck u Northug for stealing all our gold medals!!! :D
Fav. Faction however unrealistic.
Agreed.
