- Oulton Broad (Victoria Road) Level Crossing, Oulton Broad, Lowestoft, Suffolk
Date filmed: 29/02/2020
Route: Ipswich to Lowestoft Line
Just Northeast of Oulton Broad South Station
Location: B1531 Victoria Road, Oulton Broad
Trains: Class 755 (Greater Anglia)
Filmed with UK Level Crossings Channel | JT Crossings UK | UK Level Crossing Spotter & Trains
Found in Oulton Broad near Oulton Broad South Station just within Lowestoft, Suffolk. This is a very large level crossing, as it is one of only a handful of level crossings in the UK to have a traffic island in the middle of it on each side, and there are thin wigwags on each traffic island, with one extra, normally-oriented wigwag above one of the thin set of lights on one side. There were also very rare halogen pedestrian lights here on the exit sides of the level crossing where there are no wigwags when this was filmed, and what's even more interesting is that brand new LED pedestrian lights had been installed on the entrance side wigwag poles very recent to the time of filming, so this level crossing had two of each kind of UK pedestrian light. There are also four very loud alarms here, as to alert pedestrians of approaching trains in this busy environment.
This setup consisting of the two different kinds of pedestrian lights was unfortunately rather short-lived, as the two pedestrian lights on the exit-sides of this level crossings have been replaced by LED variants as of 2021. I have since returned here and filmed these in operation. That video has been filmed in Daylight too!
Apologies about any wind noise or light glare in this video.
Thanks for watching!
Great video and crossing!
Thanks a lot! 😁
Nice! Victoria Road has always been a favourite.
Thanks a lot! 👍👍
Gotta admit I loved filming this crossing - it felt great doing so with the set-up, very loud alarms, and of course, the halogen pedestrian lights! 😊
For some reason, those lights always seem blurry when filming at night.
It does seem that way. Probably because of how bright these LEDs are.
@@SouthEastLevelCrossings Yep. Maybe they're a bit too bright.
Nice vid again mate :)
Thanks a lot! 👍👍
