  • This is patio gardening on a budget, I promised earlier this year that I would do a series on container gardens based on how we used to grow when we didn't have access to a garden. I'll demonstrate just how much food can be grown in a tiny amount of space all on an extremely low budget. This is patio gardening on a budget
    A lot of these ideas are ideal for a balcony garden, no need for fancy or expensive planters grow with what's available.

    Loads of genius common sense tips: sweep ups for compose additives; small twigs and surplus cuttings in containers; lower to higher levels for later nutrient demanding plants such as tomatoes and courgettes; 3 different staged crops in containers; carrot and radish soil mixture in containers. Cheap chicken wire protecting container plants works for me.

    I'm so envious of your homemade compost! Your plants must burst into song when they're planted in it!

    This is the main reason I love youtube, finding channels like yours, this is exactly what I'm looking for, I have a concrete space very similar in size to yours and I've started to grow stuff in containers, I'm a novice so would really appreciate it if you could cover the subject of container watering, thank you 🙂

      I'll be doing one specifically on watering, I've done one on general watering before. But the way these pots are set up they're designed to hold moisture

    Asalammualaikum wa Rahmattullah wa Barakatuh. This year a little different to soil. Worms casting, peatmoss , potting mix, and manure with perlite. At bottom of my container is mulch 1/2 inch. I'll let ya know how this turned out. Jazakallah Brother. I hope your Ramadan and Eid was great and fulfilling.

    Good tips and given me some inspiration. I'm a plumber so baths shouldn't be too hard to source! I was going to make some high raised beds at my new allotment so my wife can have a potter but will use a couple of baths instead.

    Salaams, just wanted to say jazakallah khairan. A very informative video. I don't have a garden, just a backyard so everything is in pots and so this is really useful information. Eid Mubarak in advance as inevitably I'll get too busy in a few days!

    Exactly right on the need for a cover. I have tried so many ways to keep cats out. Sprays of all kinds. Finally had to settle on netting covers. Nothing else has worked for me.

      If you plant some catnip away from your other plants that might help them be distracted.

    Use tulle to keep animals out of containers. It is really cheap and tends to last a decent amount of time.

    Quick question, I’m growing = courgettes, cucumbers, Runner beans, dwarf beans, beetroot and turnips, so are these low nutrient plants? Thanks in advance. I forgot to mention that they will all be growing in knee high metal raised beds.

    Ahk by covering all the holes with cardboard how is the water gonna drain properly??? Great information though,i just subscribed 👍🏾 👏🏾👊🏾🙏🏾

    • @MyFamilyGarden
      @MyFamilyGarden  Рік тому +1

      that's partially the point, containers tend to dry out too quick, this will help retain the water but still allow drainage but a little slower

    Just wondering if the food waste is breaking down below the compost would the heat given off by this have a positive or negative effect on the plants roots.

    • @MyFamilyGarden
      @MyFamilyGarden  2 роки тому +2

      The mild warmth would really benefit the plants especially early on

    • @another8125
      @another8125 2 роки тому

      i dont believe the roots would reach that far down just yet if you're putting seedlings in, you've got like until June time until plat growth really begins to take off and by that time the food waste would be in a semi decomposed state and plants would be able to access nutrients from it.

    • @MyFamilyGarden

      That's what i hear, i've never had a problem with either not even in my worm bin, but all in moderation and as long as the worms have somewhere to go if they don't like certain conditions is key
