Great to see Sonderwerks showcased here... Really good guys down there. Can't wait to see the finished product. While originality is good, seat comfort and position is more important, especially for a car that gets driven.
Great insight. You didn’t ask, but my vote is to eliminate the “Recaro” on the new seats, and go solid sheet of fabric. This is an art that I hope isn’t slowly fading.
Finding people to do this work is incredibly challenging. It’s too bad for the business owners who have companies that do this work bc the demand for cool seats and interiors is really, really high.
...could just see what I’m guessing is the rear corner of my ‘76 in the front room. Job is wrapping up very soon. Really like Dave and JP there. Thx Will !! Nice laid back video.
Love the process of personalising the car to suit individual desires / tastes Will and this video is right "on point". I've just been through the same process and really enjoyed the process of selecting materials and planning it all out and of course now totally love the end result. In my case re seats swapped out the factory seats for custom trimmed GTS Classics seats as part of completely re-doing the interior. Such an enjoyable part of owning one of these cars!
Great video. I have original seats that need reupholstering. I hadn’t planned on a tartan insert, but when my ‘77 911 Targa makes it to Sonderwerks, I’m going with a tartan based on what I see here.
I'm in the process of choosing seats, all new custom leather and carpets for my 993. It was fascinating and great to see one of these shops in action! Wish I had a Porsche upholstery place like Sonderwerks close by! I've been doing all my planning over email with leather samples sent to me from the leather companies...
Good to see Dave again. I believe that tartan is called "Cameron of Erracht," I have a scarf in that tartan that I bought in Edinburgh 20+ years ago when I was in grad school there. Actually, I have 2 because my wife washed the original in the washing machine 16 years ago and it shrank. Love that tartan. As an aside, Euroleather, in Newton, NC can do customization on leather hides and could possibly help you dye or give it a weathered look. I am not sure if there are minimum requirements or anything, but they supply a lot of automotive and furniture manufacturers throughout the world. They have been in business for 30+ years. They may have something that would match in inventory already that Dave could use.
I saw Dave today in Miami (down here for DRT) and told him it’s always fun having him on the channel. He’s easy going and is always a one take kind of guy. Yes, you’re correct about the tartan. Thanks for the lead on the leather company.
Hi Will, great to hear back from you and Love the car. If you want my opinion, I would tartan the inserts entirely and at the very worst embroidern the RECARO logo on the centre. In fact I would eliminate the RECARO logo completely because people in the know would already be aware that the seats are RECARO. Enjoy and have fun.
Thank you very much. Great 'hands on' video with motivated explanation and understandably you modify your Porsche car to best suit your taste and driving style. Also great to be in a shop where the craft takes place. A greatly enjoyed customization video and I am looking forward to more work and travels with your Porsche sportscar. Not too lenghty a YT comment I think, always a challenge for yours truly 😁Like added 👍
Awesome! I’m in the process of re-upholsterying the seats in my Nautic Blue 944 turbo with black vinyl bolsters and blue accented tartan centers. You got me motivated to get in the garage this weekend!
Thanks for taking us along to the upholstery shop. Love your car's floor mats - I put Cocoa mats in both my '05 Boxster and '11 Cayman and they worked great.
Hey, well good to see your new Porsche. on your videos I like the wheels by the way So I like the new Ricardo black seats that you’re going with I’m not a big fan of the inserts so I would prefer just to have them black Any idea where I might find seats like that for my Porsche And by the way, I sold my 1987, 930 Turbo, regrettably, and now have a 2003 / 996 TwinTurbo Steve
One question is: do they also replace the foam? I would assume that they can if needed, but would be nice to know if there are any options on foam, maybe original style vs something more orthopedic? A big thanks for the video, great to know about these folks!
@@Rennthusiast Thanks, i appreciate the response. If you get a chance to cover what, if any options are available on replacing the foam, i would appreciate it. Thank you so much.
I think the most beautiful Porsche seat is the factory sport bucket seat what is made and used after 1986 mostly in 930 turbos and 964 turbos. I don’t like that separeted headrest version nor the standard seats what i call chicken seats because of the small bolsters.
Very easy for me to spend your money, but I would upgrade the carpets at the same time. Otherwise, it will be all you see once the new seats are installed.

I think the leather Recaro insert would look great and break up the tartan a little....
That’s the direction I’m doing in. Thanks for commenting.

Great video, Will! I always learn a lot from the videos that you make - thanks. -Tom
Can’t wait to see these done!
Video reveal as well as some tips for having your seats done and mistakes to avoid coming next Saturday.

I have decided to go with the pleated leather across the back with Recaro embroidered in it. That is how the more custom seats Recaro does would come.

Can’t wait to see the Recaros finished!
Love this mod! I’ve gotta contact these guys as I need an interior restoration 😊
Their contact info is in the description. Thank you for watching 🙏🏽
It's time for extreme customization. Rather than embroidering Recaro, have Rennthusiast in the Recaro font.
So nice that you retain original style as much as possible. The seat height has never bothered me, btw
New video every saturday, love it 🥳

I asked to leave the foam as-is. The seats are essentially brand new so the foam was good. But they can definitely do the foam also.
@@Rennthusiast Thanks, i appreciate the response. If you get a chance to cover what, if any options are available on replacing the foam, i would appreciate it. Thank you so much.
Will are the original cork seats available for sale? Interested if they are. Have 77 Ice Green Metallic 911S with cork interior. Thanks.
I’m sorry, they were long ago sold.
very cool! where did you get those recaro experts?
zweck.com. Call and ask for a guy named Suneal.

The factory sports seats are heavy, but yes very collectible, how much are they worth ?
Not sure, and haven’t really looked into it only bc I’ll never sell them.
Hello 🙂 Could you give me the reference of those Recaro seats ? I'm quite tall and would like to find comfort and low height seats. Thanks !
They are Recaro experts and you can bug them from a guy named Suneal at Zweck.

Just call and ask for him.

My thoughts exactly
What does it cost ?
$1100 a seat. I called Sonderwerks
Do you want to sell the sport seats
I already sold them to a friend.
I’ll take those sport seats off your hands!
Great video. I’m looking for upholstery ideas now for the 911 I’m building on my channel. Thanks for the tips. Check out my build if you get a chance
