- Umstead Trail Marathon was my focus race for the Winter/Spring season. I’ve done it three times before, but this time I was shooting for a to 5 finish. The course is merciless though. See how it turned out!

such a badass looking kit, loving the black theme!
Might as well look the part, right?!
Congrats on the top 5! Love the longer form video too Chas, great stuff
Cheers mate! Going to try and keep the content more running/less talking, but still talking while running. 😆
@@thecaptainchas2820Awesome, I do love your shoe talk/shoe review videos too, but this one was a real treat!
Congrats, Chas!
Thanks!
What an adventure! That is a tough but awesome race. Thanx for giving us a peak at this amazing event. Kudos on the performance. Drinking water isn’t so bad!
Thanks! I actually like drinking water, which is why I’m so hydrated going into these things. Not sure why, but I just stopped taking water at events shorter than 50k a few years ago, and I’ve had some of my best races since then.
Congrats! Great job hunting until the end on what looks like a tough course. Well done.
Thanks! It’s not over until you see the checkered flag!🏁
Cool video. Looked like Fun!!
Thanks! Yeah, fun, but also “fun” 😆
Love the critter theme
Yeah,it definitely adds to the special character of this race.
Great video. Brave choice for the shoes but it worked 👍🏻. For such a track I would have gone with a low stack like Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 2.. Endorphin Pro 3 is amazing. I have 2 pairs.
Thanks! The guy I passed in the last 800 meters was wearing the Puma DNE2. Worked well enough for him. The overall winner wore the Saucony Endorphin Rift, which would’ve been my trail alternative.
So matchy you even matched the colors of your gels to the race kit.
Go hard or go home.
Could you have used more calories? I see more news items espousing 300-400 per hour
300-400 per hour is a lot for a marathon, or any race under 4 hours. I took a total of 940 calories (all the Maurtens in my kit plus a Honey Stinger from an AS), which is more than I’ve taken for any marathon, trail or road. Calories were not the issue. That course just beats you up.
