    I also use shrink wrap after taping. But if your using shrink wrap, you need to wrap it with Parshment Paper so the shrink wrap does not stick to the heat press.

      It’s interesting how many different ways we all approach this whole sublimation thing with similar results! I tend to recommend not using shrink wrap in a press for two reasons; the press is actually doing the work of what shrink wrap does, sometimes shrink wrap can have a little wrinkle that would cause inconsistent results, AND, the whole reason I wanted a press is to save money on shrink wrap. But when it’s said and done, I recommend doing what works for you! Thanks for watching!

      Yes, I was really torn on how I liked it when I first got it. I loved the idea of not having to use plastic shrink wrap or heaving wrapping. Or having to wait 4-1/2 minutes for it to bake in the oven! Now that I’ve done about a dozen more, I’m feeling better. (I normally order plastic shrink wrap sheets from Alibaba at $.10 each, but didn’t this past time because I knew I’d be getting the tumbler press attachment. My favorite place to get the plastic sheets stateside charges $.50 each. 200 tumblers with the plastic shrink wrap @ $.50 each pays for the press!)

    Great vid. I have found over the years that heat tape tends to distort the images (due to the heat absorbing material it's made with) on drinkables & other items so I always apply the tape so that it's "not" touching any of the color graphics. Now granted that's with mugs, travel mugs, etc. when I'm 'not" looking for a full color print from handle to handle. When looking to achieve the full color wrap especially for tumblers, every video I've seen seems to show the best results when using the shrink film and the oven. I'm currently debating on purchasing the tumbler press or just using my oven for my first try at tumblers, but, your video has helped. Thanks.

      Thanks! If you already have a dedicated oven, I would definitely start with that. I gotta tell you, going from an oven to a press was not smooth. After the first 4 or 5 tumblers, I was ready to send the tumbler attachment back. (I had only purchased the tumbler attachment, I already had the press.) I finally got everything going together in sync, and came to absolutely love the attachment. But it wasn’t love at first sight! I still have no issues with doing them in the oven, I just wanted to get away from the shrink wrap and I didn’t like the idea of using masking or painters tape. Good luck!

      That was a kicker for me too. Everyone says medium or light, but what does that mean. I also think each press will be different. For me, it was part of the experimentation, but I set it until there was just a little resistance. If it closes with no resistance at all, I would say that’s just slightly looser than light pressure. If it’s difficult to close, that’s probably just a little too much resistance for heavy. For me, there is a little resistance, but it still closes easily. I hope that makes sense!

    • @industrialfringe953
      @industrialfringe953  2 роки тому

      I’ve since made about a dozen more, and the colors seem good. That said, I will continue to tweak the process, as I think there’s at least a little opportunity for the colors to pop a little better! As far as the 3rd turn, I wanted it to be different from the first 2 turns, but didn’t want to press it too long. I also tried 3 presses at 40 seconds each, rotating it a third each time, but didn’t see any difference in the outcome. The most time/temp I used was 2 press at 75 seconds at 366 degrees. That tumbler came out a little light, hence the final decision to go with a lower temperature and slightly less time. I hope that helps, and I’ll probably make a follow-up video with more detail on how I’m wrapping for the tumbler press, as well as updated times and temp to dial in the best colors possible. That video, if needed, will probably be down the road, as I really want to play around with it for a while. And the colors are coming out good now, so I may have it where it needs to be…more to come!

    • @phototec
      @phototec 2 роки тому

      @@industrialfringe953 Ok, I am new to sublimating tumblers, in general, to make the colors more vibrant (darker blacks), do you increase the time or reduce the time, and what about the temp for richer-darker blacks? Thanks

    • @industrialfringe953
      @industrialfringe953  2 роки тому

      From what I’ve found, if the outcome of the black is lighter or gray, there wasn’t enough of time and/or temp. Conversely, if the black is brown, there was too much time and/or temp. The challenge is always which to increase or decrease. You peaked my curiosity, so I just made a solid black tumbler (with white writing) and it came out great! I MAY increase the time or temp a very small amount just to see what happens, but I’m very happy with the outcome. Blacks and reds have always been trickier for me. Hey! I always use light pressure. If your heating element is defective, you’ll need to look at getting a replacement, getting a new press or getting an oven. But before you do that, try checking the surface temp of the heating element with an infrared thermometer. If you don’t have one, you can pick one up at Harbor Freight for about $15.00 (I think!). How to adjust the heat press to 17 oz tumblers

    • @industrialfringe953
      @industrialfringe953  Рік тому

      Hey, Yvonne! There are a lot of factors involved with getting to your answer. First, the type of press you have and what is its functionality. And secondly, what’s the circumference of your tumbler. Most press have bolt screws that can loosen and tighten the heating element. Crank those down to make the heating element as small as possible. If the heating element doesn’t connect and touch all areas of the press, your configuration isn’t going to work. If that’s the case, I suggest going to a thrift store and looking for a cheap convection (or toaster) oven. (Remember, if you use a toaster oven, you’ll have to rotate the tumbler a couple of times during the cook. And never use an oven that you sub with for eating! Thanks for watching!

      Hey, Cathy, thanks for watching! I suggest you join the Facebook group, as it’s easier to have back and forth dialogue. I used to struggle with reds and blacks as well. I think a lot of people do. As long as the tumbler is a sublimation tumbler and you got it from a source you trust, it should be fine. Pressure matters. I use lighter pressure, as I’ve found that heavier pressure sometimes leaves a faded tape impression in the design. I peel hot the tape off hot, then I give it about 2 minutes before I pull the paper off. I’ve only had ghosting on a tumbler a couple of times, and it was because the design was solid black writing and I didn’t give it a minute or two to cool before pulling the paper off. Try using the time/temp I used in this video and the other tumbler press video. It’s 365 degrees for 50 seconds, then rotate 180 degrees and press another 50 seconds, then rotate 90 degrees and press for 20 seconds, then 180 degrees for a final 20 seconds. That seems to be the magic time for me. Join the Facebook group and me or someone else will answer any (and all) questions you have! Thanks again for watching!

      Hey, Damien, I did an updated video that uses less tape, and I reduced pressure. I think it was the reduction in pressure that fixed it. I haven’t noticed anything since.

      I do, but I adjusted the 20 second times to 25 seconds, although I don’t know that it had]s mattered. So my total now is 50/50/25/25. Thanks for watching!
