Wow! I'm amazed at how well the golf club / dragon tumbler came out. I've always assumed that a messed up all-over design was a hopeless cause. I guess it's possible to fix if you're careful to choose the right image for resubbing.
It did come out quite well! And you’re absolutely right, it’s all about picking the right dark image for what you’re trying to cover up! Thanks for watching!
Awesome video!! Thanks so much for taking the time to create and test these! I guess after just recently purchasing a tumbler press I will now be in search of a convection oven I like that you can sublimated more than 1 at a time and now I see I can save them too! Wow!! Wanted to ask where you got your rotation devise I am having a hard time posting good pics and/or videos of my finished tumblers!! Love your channel!! Thanks again!! Love the lizard eye tumbler and guitar…wow wow wow gorgeous!! ❤- christine
Thanks so much!!! I would definitely look at a thrift store to try and find a convection oven. A toaster oven would work as well, you just have to rotate the tumbler a bit. I got the rotation device on Amazon. I’ve since seen a couple (on Amazon) that I like better! Just search rotating display stand! Thanks again, and thanks for watching!
Thanks! There’s a lot involved with pricing, including quality of the finished product, are demographic, and location, location, location! I’ve sold tumblers as low as $25 and as much as $35 for 20oz. It depends where I’m selling them! Thanks for watching!
I mentioned this in the video. I’m not sure, but I didn’t want to try, as I didn’t want to put my press through that much work for one tumbler. Tumbler press attachments eventually go bad, and I just don’t want that to be the reason mine does! Thanks so much for watching!
I use the same time and temp and wrapping methods as I do all of my tumblers. Feel free to go back and look at my video on getting great edges and getting great seams. I think once you find the perfect sweet spot for blacks, you’ve hit the perfect spot for all tumblers! I may do a video on blacks down the road, but I’m afraid there won’t really be any surprises! Thanks so much for watching!
Thank you for your fab video's and advise ...I too rebake my happy accidents as I call them but keep them in the family....the problem I have with mine is the base always looks cooked and you can tell its been rebaked...any suggestions pls
Hey, Mags! The coffee mug I rebaked had a brownish bottom, but surprisingly, the others didn’t. I have a silicone mat that’s on the bottom of the oven that may have something to do with it. I would also imaging if they’re over baked, that could occur. If you don’t already have one, try a silicone mat inside the oven. Make sure it will withstand the heat! Thanks for watching!
Very helpful thanks a bunch! Can it be put again in the oven after giving it a brake to cool off for another hour to continue discoloration if the print is still a little hard to get off 🤔 Im doing this on 12oz mugs
You can certainly try, but I’m pretty sure you won’t get more off. At some point, the bottom begins to darken, and I’d be afraid that may get too noticeable. Thanks for watching!
Hey, Pamela, yes, I have a couple of videos where I wrap. One that talks about perfect seams and one that talks about perfect edges. (And yet another that talks about both!) Definitely take a look at my channel. I’m sure you’ll find some helpful info! Thanks for watching!
I shrink wrapped clear glass and frosted glass cans and the shrink wrap absorbed a lot of the design, enough so that I could put a darker image on it. Looks weird from the inside but the outside was decent.
Interesting. I heard a few people have issues getting the shrink wrap off the glass. It’s great to know you didn’t have that issue! Thanks for sharing, and thanks for watching!
Hey, Renee! I have a couple of other videos that get into the details, but short answer is 190 seconds at 385 for mugs in a press (375ish for 10-1/2 minutes in an oven) and 365 degrees for 50/50/25/25 in a press, light pressure (365ish for 4-1/2 minutes in an oven). Thanks for watching!
I love this. Thank you so much for sharing. I noticed some the tumblers are kind of dark on the bottom, are they burnt? You also mentioned something about one of them leaving a tape mark and you'd get that out, tape marks can be removed from sublimated cups and tumblers?
You can burn the bottom if you’re not careful. My tumbler bottoms were okay, but I had adhesive residue that I forgot to remove before I started! It was hard to get off. And I had the coffee mug bottom get dark. If the marks are vague, sometimes you can remove them with Turtle Wax Scratch & Swirl. I’ll be trying this in an upcoming video!
I love your content. I’ve learned a lot in a short time. I’m still having issues with tape marks. You mentioned in this video possibly pulling out tape marks. Can you show how to do that?
Thanks! Sometimes car polish will fade out the tape marks if they’re light. (Sometimes you need to buff the entire tumbler to make sure everything is consistent.) I’ll be talking about this in an upcoming video about the top 10 tips and tricks for sublimation. Until then, this scratch and swirl remover is a good car polish to use that I’ve had success with (and what I’ll be using in my top 10 video). amzn.to/3w5BNNR Thanks for watching!
Ok absolutely love your videos!! Thanks for all the help. I have a question about the glass cans. I couldn’t find any and I read you can order them from a restaurant wholesaler. I haven’t heard of any problems with those at all. Do you know?
Thanks! No, I would not order them from a restaurant wholesaler, as they won’t be coated for sublimation. Check out the link for the Alibaba supplier I use. They should have them in their US warehouse, shipping is included, and you’ll get them in 3 - 5 days. And the prices can’t be beat. They’re $175 for 50, coming out to $3.50 each. If you don’t want that many, check out rtssublimationblanks.com. They’re $6.75 each plus shipping. Thanks for watching!
Wow!! They look great. I am having issues with my colors being mutted and my blacks are brown. I have the same press. What temp and time are you using? Thank you, Jackie
Blacks turning brown is an indication of too much time and/or temp too high. I use light pressure and do multiple presses totaling 150 seconds at 365 degrees. Check out this video for how I use the press! And thanks for watching! ua-cam.com/video/yOqxHEZgPwk/v-deo.html
Hey, Hippie Chick Creations! (I absolutely love that name!) You can, but you can’t use it to cook food in. The best is a small countertop convection oven. If you’re looking, try a thrift store. And while convection is better, a regular toaster will probably work, you’ll just need to manually turn it once or twice during the bake. Again, don’t ever use an oven you’d cook your food in! The process of sublimation releases gases that you do not want in your food! Thanks for watching!
Do they need to be standing up or can they lay on the side? I tried standing mine up and with the size of my oven it gets to close to the heating element? If yes what kind of oven do you use? Thank you for your help!
Great question! If possible, I’d stand them up, but if you have a messed up tumbler that you can’t use anyway, I’d give it a try! Just make sure to rotate often and maybe add a few more minutes due to the door opening more often. Thanks for watching!
Hi! I have the French Door convection/air fryer combo and I usually lay my tumblers down to sublimate, there are a few that are messed up does it matter if I lay them down to erase the ink or is it better to stand them up?
Are you using a heat press and if so are you just wrapping with that Songkran peice of tape? Is there a and over lap where your connecting the two sides? Or is your print exactly the same size as the cup?
Definitely go back and watch a few of my other videos! I think (hope) you’ll be able to get some good info. I mostly use a tumbler press, and here’s how I wrap with tape. ua-cam.com/video/7Uj0ho9pP3o/v-deo.html Thanks for watching!
@INDUSTRIAL fringe I just found you. I really don't watch much how to sublimation they just don't explain things like you. Your definitely an amazingly helpful channel. Do you have a video how you measure your cups and how you cut them. Before wrapping? I made a quick glance but only seen wrapping and editing your images
For images with a lot of black in them, how do you keep the sub paper from sticking to the tumbler? Mine is sticking badly which ruins the finish of the tumbler. The other colors press beautifully. I run an Epson F570, Epson General Purpose transfer paper with Epson sub ink.
Without knowing any more, my first two thoughts would be this. First, make sure your ink is bone-dry on the paper. I try to print a day or so before pressing. (I’ve pressed seconds after printing too, but I try to wait at least a little while, especially on dark designs with large solid dark areas.) Secondly, you may want to try prebaking the tumbler if you’re gonna do a really dark image and you’re still having an issue. Just long enough to make sure the finish is baked into the tumbler. (Two to five minutes in an oven or 30 seconds to a minute in a press.) Let it cool back down before wrapping. Thanks for watching!
Great video, very helpful and informative! Could you tell me what time and temp you use on the black tumblers and also do you put them in a convection oven or a tumbler press?
Thank you! I use the same time and temp for all colors, and I use a press. For details on my press time and temp, check out my video on using a tumbler press. ua-cam.com/video/yOqxHEZgPwk/v-deo.html Thanks so much for watching!
Have noticed the dark at the bottom of the tumblers I don't know if it's burnt does that come off and does any of the fumes get down in the cup I saw somebody cover up the top of their cup so the fumes wouldn't get inside
Well, I’ll need to start by saying you should never take scientific advice from me. (Mrs. Koenig, my high school science teacher would very quickly confirm this.) I don’t cover the tops when I bake off, as I don’t personally believe there’s an issue. First, deposition (or desublimation) is the process of turning a gas back into a solid, so there is a possibility of the gas reforming into a solid inside the tumbler. I’m not sure that’s a bad thing, as once the gas has turned into a solid, it’s safe. Right?! I mean, I could lick the outside of my tumbler all day long and nothing would happen to me. (Let’s assume I’ve never done that.) I do wash out my tumblers after they’ve been burned off, but my very unscientific thought is that it’s okay. Besides, if you’re sublimating in an oven, there is still a percentage of gas going into the oven and thus into and around the tumbler. That said, if you have ANY issue, by all means, cover it! (With what, I don’t know!) As far as the dark at the bottom, it’s probably not coming off! Thanks for watching!
Hi there! Thanks so much for this video I had a glass can I had messed up. All the ink pretty much went away but the rim and bottom of the glass turned orange. Any idea if it’s fixable or what caused it?
Oh,wow, I’ve not heard of that happening. My Walmart glass can got all funky on me. My first thought would be to look at temp and maybe time? Could they have been in there to long or too hot? That’s all I can think of. Thanks so much for watching, and here’s to you figuring it out. Let me know!
Hey, Angie! I set the oven to convection. Convection gives a more consistent heat through the interior of the oven so you don’t need to rotate! Thanks for watching!
You know, that’s a great question. I haven’t thought about it. My guess would be that it would not, as you’re off gassing the tumbler. BUT, it could very help help! I’ll have to check it out the next time I’m baking off tumblers!
Well, the Walmart frosted one was messed up all around, so it was trash! With the exception of two, I didn’t have issues with the bottoms. And those two were because I didn’t get the sticky stuff from the rubber bottom completely off. I ended up scrubbing them to pull most of it off. Then the little bit of what I couldn’t get was covered up by a new rubber bottom. Thanks for watching!
Hi there! I just did this process for some frosted glass cans and the yellowing was obvious. Was there another process ypu used to get the yellowing under control?
Hey, Heather! The only process I used was baking in the oven. Without knowing the time and temp, if yellowing happened to me, I’d back off of the time (and/or temp) a little. Thanks for watching!
Any oven will bake down the image, but don’t use an oven that you use for food! (You can always check your local thrift store for a used one!) Thanks for watching!
NO! Never, ever use an oven for food and sublimation! Gasses are released when sublimating (whether subbing something on or trying to burn something off), so only use an oven dedicated to only sublimation! If you don’t have one, try a local thrift shop. Thanks again for watching!
NO, don’t ever use an oven you’re going to eat out of for sublimation! Instead, find a cheap oven at a thrift store. You want convection, but a toaster oven will work in a pinch, you’ll just have to rotate it pretty often.
So my tumbler is to tall to stand up in convection oven so can I lay in there to try and do this? Would I just need to turn it several times? When I sub on them I have to lay in oven which comes out great so wasn’t sure when trying to burn image off if this would work.
I haven’t needed to do that yet, but I would just about bet that if you’re making them in the oven that way, you should be fine with baking the image off that way. But yes, I would turn it often. (I would probably turn every 10-15 minutes, but I may be a little OCD about it!) Thanks for watching!
What if you just resubmitted with the save image? If the intention is to sell that design, once you make a mistake, you baked it in the oven to cause the image to fade, & lighten up, and then you lined up the same image with the faded one.
Yes, kinda! I built my whole setup with black iron pipe and wood for the shelving, trimmed in a darker wood. I absolutely love it because it’s strong, and I can reconfigure whenever I need to! Thanks for watching!
I had to go back and look at the video, because I knew none of them burnt on the bottom (except the glass one and the mug a little bit)! I had previously put a rubber bottom on that tumbler, and when I removed the rubber bottom, some of the adhesive didn’t come off, but I didn’t notice. That adhesive browned up. I was able to remove it with a little GooGone. The learning on my part? Remove all the adhesive BEFORE I rebake a tumbler! Thanks for watching!
I am a beginner at sublimation. I have sublimated four tumblers so far using a tumbler press at 360 for 60 minutes. They all have a faded color look, the black is brown, turquoise is green, and so forth. I’m wandering if you can suggest what I may doing wrong. My tumbler press is brand new, not sure if that should have anything to do with it. Also I have a regular size oven that is a convection oven as well, could I rebake the mess ups in it? Or would that make my oven not safe for cooking food in ?
Welcome to the wonderful world of sublimation! I’m guessing you mean 60 seconds for your time! Here’s my time and temp (and I use light pressure). Take a look and see if that helps. And do NOT use an oven for sublimation that you use to eat! Sublimation releases gases, and you don’t want any residual gas in your pot pie! ua-cam.com/video/yOqxHEZgPwk/v-deo.html
I get mine from an alibaba company. www.locustsub.com?service=ChloePeng I’ve also gotten them from rtssublimationblanks.com and Amazon, and they all come out pretty consistently. It may be more about the ink (shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=1363259&u=3064363&m=89134&urllink=&afftrack=), paper, printer and time/temp technique. Thanks for watching!
Hey Roy, I know this is late in the game, but I watched another person who said to cover the top with a piece of silicone as the ink has to go somewhere. She stated that if the ink/gasses are allowed to go inside, then the product is no longer food safe. What are your thoughts on that?
While I’m not a chemist, my belief is, the stainless steel inside is a hard metal surface and can easily be cleaned. What you want to stay away from is food in the same oven. The reason behind that is that food can absorb any lingering gases left in the oven, but a hard stainless steel surface cannot. But that’s just my best guess. If you’re concerned, don’t rebake, or at least get an opinion from someone qualified to answer chemical/gas related questions! Thanks for watching!
I do a little of both. I peel the tape as soon as it comes out of the heat, but leave the paper on for the amount of time it takes to make another tumbler. Right before my next tumbler is ready to be removed, I take the paper off the tumbler that’s been out. Make sense?! Thanks for watching!

thank you for an excellent video!! very well done. subscribed :)
Excellent, Lisa! Thanks for watching and for subscribing!
Wish I had known this a couple years ago!

QUITE IMPRESSIVE!!!
Thanks for sharing this technique.
How much do you sell your tumblers for? I need to know how to price my tumblers.
Thanks!
Thanks! There’s a lot involved with pricing, including quality of the finished product, are demographic, and location, location, location! I’ve sold tumblers as low as $25 and as much as $35 for 20oz. It depends where I’m selling them! Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much!!! I have several I can fix now thanks to you!!! 😁
Fantastic! Thanks for taking the time to watch!
Saved your videos!
Fantastic! I’ll make more! Thanks for watching!
Ja ja love your videos oh boy do I have a lot of them LOL
FANTASTIC! I’ll make more!
The Walmart one could hold flowers
Do you know if I can bake off the image use a heat press machine?
I mentioned this in the video. I’m not sure, but I didn’t want to try, as I didn’t want to put my press through that much work for one tumbler. Tumbler press attachments eventually go bad, and I just don’t want that to be the reason mine does! Thanks so much for watching!
How do you get a perfect clean rim and bottom with the black? Black is so hard for me to work with when wrapping around.
THIS IS GREAT, DO YOU HAVE A YOU TUBE VIDEO ON WRAPPING
Would you share what time and temps you bake the mugs and tumblers. Sorry if I missed it!
I accidentally baked a tumbler upside down. Now it’s just decoration on my bar
Welcome to the upside down club!
@@industrialfringe953 awesome. Thanks.
@@pbjTShirtCo Thanks for watching!
@@industrialfringe953 Thank you so much for your help. Yes I will continue to watch, you give great information.

Can I use a regular oven? Or does it need to be a one of these smaller ovens
Great question! You could probably it either way, but I would rotate a few times if laying them on their side. If you can, I’d stand them up!
It usually takes me 2 hours at 400 degrees and they fade a lot so you can sub a darker color over them.
I did a mug backwards while watching this video... LOL
That’s just too funny!
Thank you so much for responding to my question!
Has anyone ever tried to fade a shimmer tumbler? I know they sub at lower temps, and burn easily. Is it a total loss?
Love your videos! Would you like to try our new tumbler press?
Thank you for the kind words! I’d be happy to unbox and test your new press. Feel free to reach out to me at industrialfringe@gmail.com
Hi, do you set the oven on bake or Convection?
Hey, Angie! I set the oven to convection. Convection gives a more consistent heat through the interior of the oven so you don’t need to rotate! Thanks for watching!
What would happen if you wrapped it in blank sublimation paper? Would it help pull think ink out?
You know, that’s a great question. I haven’t thought about it. My guess would be that it would not, as you’re off gassing the tumbler. BUT, it could very help help! I’ll have to check it out the next time I’m baking off tumblers!
What about the bottoms? I noticed on a couple of them, they were brownish from where you had them in the oven for so long. What did you do about that?
Ok so all I have is a tumbler press. Will a regular oven at 400 work?
Any oven will bake down the image, but don’t use an oven that you use for food! (You can always check your local thrift store for a used one!) Thanks for watching!
Do you use your oven also for food
NO! Never, ever use an oven for food and sublimation! Gasses are released when sublimating (whether subbing something on or trying to burn something off), so only use an oven dedicated to only sublimation! If you don’t have one, try a local thrift shop. Thanks again for watching!
Hi, thanks for this video, but do I have to buy a convection oven? I can't use a kitchen oven? A gas oven to be exact. Just curious
NO, don’t ever use an oven you’re going to eat out of for sublimation! Instead, find a cheap oven at a thrift store. You want convection, but a toaster oven will work in a pinch, you’ll just have to rotate it pretty often.
@@industrialfringe953 thanks!
Is that an adjustable table over the oven?
Yes, kinda! I built my whole setup with black iron pipe and wood for the shelving, trimmed in a darker wood. I absolutely love it because it’s strong, and I can reconfigure whenever I need to! Thanks for watching!
Did it burn on the bottom of the tumblers? What is that on the last ones bottom?
Can you do this on other sublimation blanks?
You know, I’m not sure. I’d be willing to try any hard surfaces substrate, but doubt it would work on anything soft. Thanks for watching!
what brand tumblers do you use? they are very vibrant!
Disregard this Roy, I see you responded about this question further down in the comments!
What about the gasses getting inside the tumbler when baking off?
While I’m not a chemist, my belief is, the stainless steel inside is a hard metal surface and can easily be cleaned. What you want to stay away from is food in the same oven. The reason behind that is that food can absorb any lingering gases left in the oven, but a hard stainless steel surface cannot. But that’s just my best guess. If you’re concerned, don’t rebake, or at least get an opinion from someone qualified to answer chemical/gas related questions! Thanks for watching!
Should peel the paper off while the tumbler is still hot hot or wait for it to cool down?
I do a little of both. I peel the tape as soon as it comes out of the heat, but leave the paper on for the amount of time it takes to make another tumbler. Right before my next tumbler is ready to be removed, I take the paper off the tumbler that’s been out. Make sense?! Thanks for watching!
@industrialfringe953 yes!! Thank you. I'm gonna try that. Mine keeps ghosting. I'm very new to this.
