How-To video here to help you swap out the steering wheel on your Porsche 911 from 2009 and forward. I'm doing it on my 2009 911 Carrera S, but the process is exact for every 997.2, 987.2, 991.1, 981.1, and 99% the same for 991.2, 992 and 718. And BONUS... I believe the process is the same for Cayenne and Macan from the same time frames!
Watch to see how simple this is as I show every step in real time totaling only 10 minutes!
I like the tan center. This is terrific. Totally easy and I get to buy two new tools, the breaker and the M12. Thanks Michael.
High five! I’ve used several different triple square sockets since getting the Cayenne. Glad to see some of them carry over to the 997!
Thanks for this! I’ve been shopping for a used Porsche and those damn button shifter steering wheels are on the vast majority of what's for sale. So knowing it's an easy swap for the paddle shifter wheel gives me lots more choices!
Exactly! I was holding out for one in Savannah Beige for a while, but the moment a friend pointed out to me that my steering column is black and there’s lots of other black trim in the cabin, I just went for the readily available black one. Now I love the look of it in black!
amazing thank you for showing us how easy it is done
Definitely worth doing!
Love the paddles, btw.
Thanks!
Great video - amazing how ez that was! Yep, definitely go with the BLACK one!
Yeah I think you’re right
Will up shift and down shift faster based on throttle position and mode you are driving.
The steering wheel could be pink for all I care… that’s my dream car right there!😃
lol. Now THAT would be a sight! 😂 Thanks for watching
Black airbag looks better. You will love the paddles way better than the buttons.
I have swapped steering wheel many times on 997.2 and made multiple videos too.
I like the black as well. I didn’t notice before doing the swap that the steering column is also black, so the black wheel and airbag makes sense.
Impressive, and surprisingly easy! I think I'd still wear a helmet w/a facemask while handling an airbag though!😁
Thanks! #SafetyThird 😂
Nicely done Meat Man!! Looks awesome in that cabin.
Gracias. This will go live Friday morning, at 8am central time.
What? No knife? 🤣🤣🤣
James clearly has the most famous airbag video of all time😂😂😂
Interesting way to do it, I thought you always had to go through the front of the airbag ala @autoameteur, your way is certainly more refined. but less dramatic.
😂😂😂 well his way was probably more satisfying
Good video. I got a 997.2 C2S PDK in August with the buttons. Trouble is I really like the multifunction wheel with heating. Still undecided. Or should I go Macan wheel with all 3 but not correct year.
So the actual year itself doesn’t really matter as long as it has the same size airbag. Even if you go with an even new style wheel with the smaller airbag, it’s all still interchangeable as long as your new wheel comes with the airbag too. Look for one that has both paddles AND the multifunction buttons and you’re golden.
Nice. Looks so much better!!
Thanks! It definitely does
Hello, thank you for this video. Can you tell me the prise of the steering wheel with paddle? please. If my English is not correct, I'm sorry !
Thank you for watching! I paid $750 for the steering wheel. I’ve seen them for as much as $1200 though.
Speeding, caught on camera!
How do you know there was a speed limit???😬😬😬
Very nice video. I'm thinking of doin the same on 991.1S w/MF wheel. But I currently have 3 stalks and can only control info guage from the wheel so I'd have to add the 4th stalk that you have. Did you add that stalk? If so did you buy it from ebay etc? How did you get it coded? I prefer the SD look but considering going with 991.2 wheel and GPS adaptor to avoid the stalk coding.
Thanks for watching! I’ve seen others do as you said, using the 991.2 wheel to avoid the stalk. Mine had the stalk. Not sure if that was standard or normal with the 997.2, but it was there already in mine.
Allow me one question. What happened to the other buttons on the spokes for use of the telephone, radio channel and volume control? Where are those connections?
Good question. The wiring harnesses contain all of those connections. But the necessary wires are just missing from the steering wheel side of the connection on the sport design wheel. The other side of the connection has the capability to accept those wires if the steering wheel has it.
I have this paddle shift wheel with an intermittent switch....looking for a pin out diagram and source for witches should I find the problem. Or, does anyone service these?
I’m really not sure unfortunately. Mine was completely plug and play with no issues. Good luck on finding a solution!
Good job. I changed mine on my 2000. 996 as well. How do you like your 997.2 compared to your 996. I have been thinking about getting a 997.2 with manual transmission.
It is a really amazing car. I’m going to be doing a side-by-side comparison soon with my friend’s 2000 model manual 996.
Cool. Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Lol, the upshifts are supposed to be faster than the downshifts...
I wasn’t pushing too hard. I noticed today on a 120 mile backroad run that at higher RPM the upshifts are as close to instant as I could distinguish.
I'm calling BULLSH*T! This video is over 10 mins long. Haha. (Great job by the way).
Yeah you forgot the subtract the intro and the test drive. #maths
If the new steering wheel’s color would matching with the interior’s color that would be good but on this way changing something like that is just ruining the car. Sorry man but that’s a 👎 for now to me.
I can appreciate that, even if “ruining” is a bit extreme. The steering column is black, so I think it blends right in. But in all fairness, I was hoping to find one in Sand Beige. I may still swap this one out if a good eBay deal comes along for a Sand Beige Sport Design wheel.
@@motorsandmeats88Well, if i was in your place first i would start with the dealership asking for a quote and part number then start to looking outside of ebay for independent Porsche specialists who may can get the perfect parts. It takes time as it is a luxury sports car. I went through similar things with my Jaguar. I had to change my defrost grill because it was cracked and broken. It had a specific color “charcoal” and I couldn’t get right away but i holded out and i ended up getting the right color and right year model matching part as it had a sensor in it what was positioned differently then in the older and the newer models. So it was quite a struggle but i managed to get one from UK from an independent Jaguar specialist. It takes time and efforts but eventually you’ll get what you need just be with patience. Try to enjoy the process as you out on hunt for a new nice part to make your car better.
