Thank you for making this video. I don't understand some reviewers and their hate for Sony. You proved them wrong. Well done! I recorded cinematic video using Xperia 1 and couldn't have been more happier with the results. They are stellar. I never shot a video on smartphone until now. If you use gimbal, 4k videos out of CinemaPro app look surreal. Xperia 1 inspires creativity out of you. What an amazing device! This phones excels in manual mode whether be it for photography or CinemaPro app for cinematography. Next time when you're on vacation and feel like shooting cinematic travel video, reach out to your pocket and your X1 will blow your mind.

Excellent review your the only one who has used the pro app and produced a film, got my Xperia last week, found in normal video mode recording in 4k H. 265 file format produces better 4k video then the standard H. 264 Less choppy. I really love the 21.9 ratio and will never go back to 18.9. I watched supersaf Xperia 1 video and he thrashed the Sony saying its the worse camera, but he seemed very biast in his testing.
Sony must have already fixed it. Both 4k formats aren't choppy anymore in my xz3. Although that wasn't the case à few weeks ago. In hdr mode, you can't change the format.
The main problem with Sony is they don’t prefer to use the HDR processing as much. It can make things difficult especially in harsher lighting. But when you get the lighting right, then the more natural colours and details of the Sony are great

Keep up this excellent work. Bring Sony back into the game. I've had mine for about a month now. Sent back my Huawei p30 pro(uncertainty). I'm all about the video myself and have used just the basic camera so far and been very pleased with results. I've come from a wide 7" Huawei X2 (2015) which handles watching media like a boss. 2 generations of new phones were left for "filming only" purposes. But this one is now my daily driver plus filming/photography unit. Even just using it for calls is such a sweet spot. Massive clarity. It's a lot lighter than one would think. Bluetooth headphone music experience is really a significant boost. Button handling with Fingerprint on the side is effortless . No issues with Fingerprint for instant access to the phone. Long press on power button for screen shots is really useful too. Split-screen works great as well. I find that one can explore this phone for quite a while.
Why did you send back p30 pro? Honestly that's only on my radar cause of zoom. The videos are trash without a gimbal and heavy editing. I want a good out of box experience.
@@crowmigration8245 had the Sony for about a month now. Really love it! High quality videos, no issue with battery life the tall aspect ratio really works. Bluetooth music is really good. Screen is great. It's got a cinema pro app on it. So I've can shoot straight out the box or go and fiddle with settings. Lots of little cool features. I did love the z of on on the p30 pro but want massively impressed with it's photo ability in some scenes. If you've not upgraded for 2 years this phone is a big leap!
@@zenchestnuts I have watched excessive amounts of video and photo comparisons. Overall it's S10+ > one plus 7 > p30 pro > x1. On x1 photos always have exposure issues, and It's not even close for the video, even if using cinemapro. Maybe it's possible to fiddle around and do tricks to get better results but that's what I'm doing now (xz premium), with mixed results and I'm sick of it.
@@crowmigration8245 sounds a big pain. My needs are probably a lot simpler. I'm using the video in bright sunlight and am happy with the results so far. Sharp detail is important as it's an instructional video. I'll do an indoor video soon and hopefully that comes out well.
@@zenchestnuts From my experience Sony is great on bright sunny days (I made two photo books with it), hit or miss in anything else. Video is unusable without a gimbal (if you want to see some barely salvageable footage go to my channel). This opinion is based on a 2 year old phone, but the X1 looks about the same from reviews and tests I've watched.
also sorry if these are stupid questions, but is the camera actually special? your videos look amazing but they always do, and many phone cameras are crazy good these days. cant one crop video into 21:9 and even change the framerate after, if you're really going for the cinematic look? other phones shoot in raw, but may have superior sensors or lenses, so does the xpderia 1 and it's features actually get you a better end result?
I must say the great settings help deliver a superior result along with a fantastic camera to begin with. I don't think the camera specs themselves are better than a galaxy S10 though. Either way Sony has to improve the video stabilization on their phones and then I will buy one if it's at least this beautiful.
X1 is actually the best phone for film making. You can't really get the cinematic look reducing the framerate on post production. The shutter speed is completely different with each framerate setting. With 24 fps you can use lower ISO and longer shutter speed, as result you get a true cinematic look. 30/60fps requires higher ISO and shorter shutter speed, making the motion too sharp and with noise. But its more complicated than that because if you shoot with HLG or Log profile and higher ISO the noise will be even more visible. That is why you should use 24 fps and use HLG in order to get a clean image with an extended dynamic range.
@@psnKnowledge actually only Sony phones support HLG at 10Bits of color depth, since they use the same HDR profile on their Alpha cameras, now its better because on CinemaPro app you can use LUTs, previously you needed to use Adobe Premiere Pro or similar to color grade HLG. Samsung use HDR10+, but isn't really made for editing or grade, same with LG.
Oh i need more content shoot by this amazing phone, some audio quality too, this was shoot in 4k i guess, i would like to see it in 1080p too as this shaking would be better i guess
What is the best video editor you'd recommend when editing videos shot on Cinema Pro App. My videos don't play well or are distorted when I'm using video editing programs such as Adobe Premier.
Hi I have a question is it normal to experia 1 to get a blurry video whenever im using messenger apps, zoom apps anything with video calls? Please i need help and good reply answer i have few days left if i can return it or not? The video itself and photo is i love it but when it comes to video call specially in facebook messenger its blurry. Our internet is fast also my wife has an iphone we check both and i received complaint several people in sony community having this issues in video calls!! Please i need help!! Thank you.
Just ordered mine! cant wait to have a pocket cinema camera! Thanks for filmming Croydon ahah I'm just wondering if you can use anamorphic lenses with this phone.
How is the video quality, resolution and dynamic range compare to the rx 100 series? , I'm aware that it's an unfair comparison still I'm curious nonetheless
I just bought a Xperia 1 IV, and thought I would love the cinema mode. Well, it is a demanding mode, but I am still learning. Thanks for your video, it was inspiring (I noticed that you make the same kind of footage as I do ;-) ) But what I hate: In this messing in the menus, and -- please help: When I try to copy the files over to my computer, some of them are hopeless to find. Any idea what I do wrong?
A 21:9 phone would be just about as tall as some 18:9 phones once indisplay cameras become mainstream. I'm glad to see Sony is back to being ballsy in the phone market.
Wow, LG V-series got competition, bravo 👏. Because samsung SUSCKS in this department (S10+ user here). By the way, I don't recommend to use any aspect ratio except one that uses full sensor area and crop in post in Davinci you can even make vertical tilting movements with extra coverage.
I am generally really happy with the camera performance - apart from some iffy hdr (or lack of it when you want it in auto) I think I prefer it to my wife's iPhone XS. BUT the fingerprint scanner is garbage, and nearly had me returning it. It is noticeably worse than my Note 9. This is a great review though, thanks for putting it together. It's the second I've seen with it dropping frames / having choppy footage. Hopefully this can be fixed in an update. But this sort of thing should be right from the start :/
☆☆☆☆ Never owned Xperia phones before , going by positive reviews I would like to give it a try by ordering Xperia 1 IV which is currently on the pipelines. Inclusion of following will persuades me to switch from Samsung to SONY, ☆ integration/incorporation of SD slot expandable memory, ☆Headphone Jack, to edit or insertion of sound tracks into video also using proper headphones instead of gimmicky bluetooth ones. ☆Sony Apps and 70-105mm telephoto. 🔥 I hope SONY incorporates more customizable buttons even in the apps, Variable apature & a Bigger sensor (closer to 1 inch) Or a set of faster lenses to help in low light situations, improvement in Auto mode in particular, obtion to change lenses during cinematic shooting would certainly blow all other competitions out of water and hopefully Sony takes the Crown in smart phones industry.
Great video! I've got the Xperia 1 and overall I'm really enjoying using the phone. I hope they can fix the way the camera blows out lights/bright daylight though. I think the phone will improve over time with some updates. I'm amazed just how quick I've got used to the 21:9 screen. Just feels normal now. And the display itself is great.
Anthony A. Ackah Sony can be hit and miss sometimes if you just point and shoot. The reviewers also don’t seem to look too far into things aside from dynamic range, colour and noise.
Yeah I went for this phone a couple of weeks ago and am V impressed. I'm learning to use it as part of my workflow. Be really interested to know what you use to edit outside the app itself? And any experience you have of editing in software such as Premier Pro etc. Thanks for the helpful vid.
i just got a xperia 5ii and i can't figure out how to edit the videos and maintain the original colors. when i load the footage into my edit software (power director app) all coloura turn washed out and very bright. is there a fix for this? your colors seem fine.
Heya Ron, sorry to hear that the colours aren't remaining true to the origjnal. I hope someone here in the comments can help you out with this. We didn't notice anything problematic on our loaned 5 II, which has since been returned. Have you tried shooing in RAW and jpeg, to see if there are colour changes there maybe? Not sure if you're editing on a monitor that is potentially throwing the colours off? Wish I could be more helpful!
Hi Thanks for this helpful video. I'm a sony fan. the touch on my Xperia z3+ not working recently and want to buy xperia 1 or xperia 5 but i can't choose one over another. xperia 1 has 4k and 960fps but with slightly weaker battery life while xperia 5 has a good battery but 1080 screen and just 120fps slow-mo. the 2 phones are the same price, and i really confused. a lot of videos on youtube mixed me up. gsmarena give 79 hr battery for x1 and 96hr for x5 that is far better than my 65hr xperia z3+. but when someone say "xperia 1 battery is not that good" I'm a little worried. I have big hands and large fingers, so i think xperia 1 is better for me. I like to take pictures and do more with camera. could you help me which one to buy please. bty, sorry for my bad English. I'm Iranian. thanks
I just used the flattest lut out of the camera and put a standard lut on in Premier pro. Adjusted highlights and shadows a little. The HDR give lots of room for recovering blown out and underexposed shots. It's a serious tool.
@@tech_edit yes for real. I am using premier on mobile. I think many people don't realize that the video taken by the app is meant to be graded. Too many people expect the output of the video to be ready for publishing straight away.
Awesome video tools. Good job Xperia
awesome video bro!!
also sorry if these are stupid questions, but is the camera actually special? your videos look amazing but they always do, and many phone cameras are crazy good these days. cant one crop video into 21:9 and even change the framerate after, if you're really going for the cinematic look? other phones shoot in raw, but may have superior sensors or lenses, so does the xpderia 1 and it's features actually get you a better end result?
🤔
@@ES-qy2ju I'm guessing the Xperia 1 is one of the only flashsips that has HLG support in the camera app?
@@psnKnowledge actually only Sony phones support HLG at 10Bits of color depth, since they use the same HDR profile on their Alpha cameras, now its better because on CinemaPro app you can use LUTs, previously you needed to use Adobe Premiere Pro or similar to color grade HLG.
Samsung use HDR10+, but isn't really made for editing or grade, same with LG.
Wow David great job this review is perfect
Thanks mate👍🏿
Subscribed thank you😍.......SONY WOW.........
Looks great watching on my Xperia 1
Oh i need more content shoot by this amazing phone, some audio quality too, this was shoot in 4k i guess, i would like to see it in 1080p too as this shaking would be better i guess
What is the best video editor you'd recommend when editing videos shot on Cinema Pro App. My videos don't play well or are distorted when I'm using video editing programs such as Adobe Premier.
Hello.Wow! A superb video & quality with nice music 🎶 .
See you again soon. Than you.
Thank you.
Does the cinema pro app enable video editing or just shooting videos?
Looks very impressive. My next phone will be a Sony.
JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU
Cheers Leo
Wow the low light footage was so good!!!
And also I really liked the background music. Can you please tell where to get that background music?
Just ordered mine! cant wait to have a pocket cinema camera!
Thanks for filmming Croydon ahah
I'm just wondering if you can use anamorphic lenses with this phone.
So great... And the film you make is awesome..... Nice
it's the perfect phone for cinema lovers. Thanks for the compliment.
hey is this phone still recommedable in 2022? I'm getting an unboxed version at 120$
Does it have a large screen? Not stupid stretched diagonal with 74mm sousage width. But a large 80+mm width screen?
Got one, love it. Thanks for this video man✌️
Did you edit the video after shooting? Or just as is?
Can you compare this to iPhone 11 Pro (with filmic Pro) when it's out?
How is the video quality, resolution and dynamic range compare to the rx 100 series? , I'm aware that it's an unfair comparison still I'm curious nonetheless
I have one question... How can I change the focus setting from fixed to manual?
How will it play with my sony A7r3 as far as ease of color grading goes? Someone also said it can be used as a monitor for Sony alpha cameras?
Best smartphone camera ever
watching from Sony Xperia 5 II ☺☺
Great choice, amazing phone the 5 II, we absolutely love it. Tom
Can focus be changed manually while recording? Also ISO and shutter speed?
I am generally really happy with the camera performance - apart from some iffy hdr (or lack of it when you want it in auto) I think I prefer it to my wife's iPhone XS. BUT the fingerprint scanner is garbage, and nearly had me returning it. It is noticeably worse than my Note 9. This is a great review though, thanks for putting it together. It's the second I've seen with it dropping frames / having choppy footage. Hopefully this can be fixed in an update. But this sort of thing should be right from the start :/
As always
Sony is the best
☆☆☆☆ Never owned Xperia phones before , going by positive reviews I would like to give it a try by ordering Xperia 1 IV which is currently on the pipelines.
Inclusion of following will persuades me to switch from Samsung to SONY,
☆ integration/incorporation of SD slot expandable memory, ☆Headphone Jack, to edit or insertion of sound tracks into video also using proper headphones instead of gimmicky bluetooth ones.
Where can I get the White coloured device in the UK? Everywhere it's either Black or Purple :(
Great video!
Manual hdr fix the blown highlights
@@EinzMY Cool. Here's hoping they put the HDR option in auto mode at some point. 👍🏻
Are some people actually paid to lie on UA-cam against Sony Xperia? or they just don't have time to learn features in the phone?
Anthony A. Ackah Sony can be hit and miss sometimes if you just point and shoot. The reviewers also don’t seem to look too far into things aside from dynamic range, colour and noise.
Most techtubers don't even have much understanding of the phones.....
Can we use the 21:9 aspect ration when taking photos?
What software do you use to edit your videos is there any apps ?
perfect ❤️ i knw sony nailed it.
Sony Xperia 1 , the Best
lol had the phone for months didnt know this :D ty
Any heating issues?
great video and editing is excellent.
I like the colours and i am a sony fanboy but isn't the stabilization not as good as the xz2 here? the video you made was pretty shaky.
dope! i love it
Yeah I went for this phone a couple of weeks ago and am V impressed. I'm learning to use it as part of my workflow. Be really interested to know what you use to edit outside the app itself? And any experience you have of editing in software such as Premier Pro etc. Thanks for the helpful vid.
Can you do tutorial on how to edit video just like cinema/movie version .
Great review 👍.
Watching this video on my Xperia 1 🥳
i just got a xperia 5ii and i can't figure out how to edit the videos and maintain the original colors. when i load the footage into my edit software (power director app) all coloura turn washed out and very bright. is there a fix for this? your colors seem fine.
Beautiful colours, but no in built stabilisation?
This is a grt mobile.. I want to customer response and the sales and pre sale figure.. Is it possible
Hi
Thanks for this helpful video.
I'm Iranian.
thanks
Nice job bro. The night time shots have a really nice look to them. Were graded in post? Or is that the video straight from the phone?
I just used the flattest lut out of the camera and put a standard lut on in Premier pro. Adjusted highlights and shadows a little. The HDR give lots of room for recovering blown out and underexposed shots.
It's a serious tool.
@@tech_edit yes for real. I am using premier on mobile. I think many people don't realize that the video taken by the app is meant to be graded. Too many people expect the output of the video to be ready for publishing straight away. In reality, the user has to know how they want their vision portrayed and to be able the use tools provided as they were intended.
You could be right about that. These are professional tools and I think that the pros will appreciate it a bit more than most.
Wow the video with cinema pro look stunning. Can you please try compare the photo also with stock cam and cinema pro... Thanks...
Sure. More videos on the way.
@@tech_edit thanks I really appreciate your good effort man...
Great. Thanks for the review
May I ask what song did you use for that small segment of video footage? The combination of both made a beautiful result.
