The Best Way to Repair Severely Cracked Cast Bronze Drum Cymbals

I try this cutting method to repair my cracked and broken 18" Oriental Crash of Doom. I had tried drilling out the end of the crack to stop it from spreading, but the stress eventually makes it past the hole. We try this method from Mike Levitsky's channel.

I’m telling you it worked. Just make sure you’re cutting long swooping cuts so you don’t leave a new stress point for the symbol to break. I don’t think this method would work around the bell. A lot of my symbols are showing some stress fractures there.

use a metal file to smooth the edges!! or else it will DEFINITELY crack again and probably faster than before

Appreciate the sound advice. All of my other symbols have a nice smooth edge, but the crash of doom is fairly squared and I’m worried that that’s the reason why it has cracked so many times over the years.

this method is the only way. buy edge cracked cymbals for 20 bucks and do this. Im not a fan of bright rock cymbals but I need them for recording so rather than spend a bunch of money I did this to a bunch of cracked cymbals I got for under 40 dollars a piece. works great no one knows the recordings are done on cracked cymbals

@@NotPerfection if it cracks that way that's ideal. usually, I just prioritize smoothness and preserving as much bronze as possible.
