Nintendo can't keep banning legit gamers who bought a used game, they'll have to make a change.
They'll probably increase security against this thing with patches, but I don't think they bother too much. For them it's gonna be "blame the pirates".
You are banned, you're fu*ked. Nintendo won't bother you're legit gamer or not... Hol up, legit gamer? 🙄
They did the exact same with 3DS cart certificates. Its why everyone switched to digital installs instead.
@@TakisEnjoyerMaybe for the Switch 2.
They will do that anyways if dumper keep sharing these files.
It's actually even worse. I've bought games that were supposed to be brand new only to find out that despite being sealed, somebody had gotten into them and removed things that were supposed to be in them. Some stores have had controversies with opening all of their games and storing the discs/carts elsewhere as well. Meaning it is entirely possible for somebody to go out of their way to buy a new copy, only to find out later through being banned that some employee or something grabbed a used copy that had at one point been dumped, or potentially a new copy that they or another employee had used to dump a copy to upload online.
Oh shit. Well we are cooked.
Oh yeah, GameStop got into hot water during the 360 era for this with some major releases. And the industry didn’t just stop doing it
It’s insane to think that buying used games can essentially get your switch banned. All the folks buying used games because maybe it’s more affordable are really gonna end up getting hurt. Sad day. 😔
So you telling me you cannot use used games anymore that is fuckikg crazy
Apparently is totally fine for some people tho because niche communities or some shit
Get ready to sued Nintendo brr
3 or 5?
yeah thats why i buy fresh copies instead of used copies so i dont have any risks

Crazy thing is; this is actually making Nintendo grin from ear to ear because they've been looking for a reason to get rid of the used game market since the 80s.
Exactly. This is Nintendo's biggest W in a long time
@spookydooms But eventually that'll turn into an L the moment everyone starts only pirating new games, costing them.
@@TheIrkenEmpire420 Pirated =/= multiplayer.
You take a pirated game online with Nintendo and your console’s severed from the servers immediately. No more online multiplayer for Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, Mario Maker, Smash Bros, Splatoon, Mario Party, whatever other games I can’t think of, and any third-party games like Rocket League, Minecraft, and Fortnite.
That’s not a L for Nintendo. They’ll be fine.
@@spookydooms Yeah you get banned from nintendo servers okay big deal but what about the thousands of community servers? Also if you use a switch to play those third parties idk what to say man
Im not even convinced "buying new" will save you. I dont know if it is still the case, but GameStop used to let you borrow games as a employee perk. The catch is. Said game was then resold as new (there was no evidence as games are not sold sealed).
Add in amazon mixing stock with 3rd parties and its a recipe for disaster.
plus, what if people buy games, dump them, then return them. there's no way to know that your game is safe
us aussie gamers are at risk cuz switch games here don’t come sealed for some reason
I love the fact that this device exists. But at the same time this device has made me terrified of buying used Switch games because I’m scared of potentially getting banned.
You shouldn’t have to be afraid of buying used games at all, but thanks to MiG switch you can randomly get banned as regular people who has no idea why it happened in the first place
@@Yoshizuyuner (thanks to nintendo)
Buy an ROG ALLY or Steam Deck and join the PCMR. You wont have to worry about bans or monthly fees.
@FennecTECH do we have online play too? Or is this route offline exclussive? Namely for games that have only online multiplayer and no offline multi
@@Diddz ROG ally is a computer. It runs steam. You get online play for free from steam. Epic games and everything. It’s just a windows PC in the form factor of a switch.
What scares me the most about things like this is that companies will probably eventually will lead to just digital only. Making physical copies obsolete. This way the company has a lot more control on games not being able to be pirated.
People who cheer on an all-digital future are part of the problem
Nintendo has ZERO control over if a game becomes pirated or not. All it takes is ONE person to download the game on a hacked switch, then dump it and put it on the internet. But releasing games digital only does seem like a possibility.
I guess I won't buy used switch games until the Switch servers shut down. I will not risk getting banned just because I wanted to buy a used game
So you want to wait until there's no reason to own a switch to buy one....
@@joe_schmoe_420always reason to buy them - I still buy old gamecube and wii games to this day, games that are exclusive to those systems
Nintendo’s banking on people enjoying Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros, Splatoon, etc.
And considering the online multiplayer THE game
In a weird way, Nintendo might like this thing because in a while the used market will be risky, so more people go to brand new copies. Could be an L for people looking for a deal and a W for Nintendo's pockets.
Either way, great video, it's nice to be aware of this kind of stuff for the future!
True....
Well yeah. Remember big companies like Nintendo have no morality, they only care about money.
Just one of reason to hate on MiG switch
I wouldn't even say "weird" way, I'd say 100% accurate way
We've gotten over 30 years of them hating used sales. This is their biggest win in ages

I preordered a Mig Switch Dumper back in January, I'm convinced it ain't coming unfortunately
EDIT: IT ARRIVED TWO DAYS AGO LET'S GOOOOOO
Yeah I am hearing a lot of people who have ordered in January and still haven't received it, including many UA-camrs. Hopefully just supply chain issue and not scammers. I did hear the mig switch team made a response to this situation that there was a delay and that they were going to reach out to suppliers to let them know that they need to give update emails to people who are still waiting, so hopefully they are sorting it out. That is a long time to wait. Me personally I will wait until the hype slows down and then maybe I will consider getting it.
Yeah same for me it’s annoying
Mine arrived yesterday, pre-ordered day 1.
I ordered one in January as well. I actually emailed the website I bought it from and they responded back to ensure me that it is still on the way. They could not give me a date but said it will be much sooner than later. I am hoping they are not BSing me. Emailing me back was a good sign though I think.
Ordered mine way back. Emailed them to see if they are going to send it. Never got a a reply. Think I got scammed.
The famous Switch emulator, Yeezy😂😂😂
lol
This is a really great and very well explained video. 👍🏻 I do have a question about the situation where people might dump used games and sell them back to retailers. Couldn't this have also already been a problem with people using hacked Switches too? They can dump the games as well of course, so I would think this could've already been a potential risk with buying used games, though maybe at a smaller scale since it required hacking and/or modchipping & soldering work. This just also seems like a W for Nintendo as this will scare people away from the used market and force them to buy new, which will make Nintendo and devs more money vs buying used.
The reason why copies downloaded off the internet work on modded Switches is because people who have modded Switches KNOW you don't go online with your emuNAND on your modded Switch. You will get banned. I see what you are saying, and I know that if I made a copy of my game so I could still play it and sell the physical copy to make a profit, I personally would not go online with my dumped copy. Why would I risk getting my own Switch banned?
The problem here is that people unknowingly will buy a PHYSICAL copy from a 2nd hand store like eBay, Pawn shop, Game Stop, garage sale, etc of the game and think nothing about it, then go online with their normal unmodded legit Switch and poof, get banned because somewhere out there on the internets somebody else went online with a copy that had the same certificates like he mentioned in this video of the physical game.
People with hacked switches have plugins designed to block all connections with online servers. They’re sandboxed in a way that doesn’t touch the outside world.
The difference now is, these tools don’t need a hacked switch. Meaning anyone that connects to online servers can use them. Even stock devices.
So do you need to hookup to a stealth server like the xbox360 as well as the plugins to not get banned online witha modded switch
I was hoping you would do a video on this. Sweet! Ty.
Great video on the dumper!
I always bought used games because I couldn't afford new copies.. this is such a bummer, I wish this wouldn't have to happen
I’m not gonna lie, during the 3DS era, I did do this (11:38). In my defense these signatures and certifications weren’t around yet and I was pretty young but it was nice to get a $70 eshop card for my Wii U and never have to switch cartridges on my 3DS 🙏
Just keep your receipt/proof of purchase in case you get banned. Even if a lot of online communites say they're gonna do XYZ, it's still a less than 1% chance of anyone running into the problem.
Nintendo has never, ever unbanned a console. They don’t even have an appeals process
Give them the receipt. They’ll wipe their ass with it and tell you to buy new
nice vid as always
Finally u have answered!!!! lol. Thanks for the video my dude. Big Salute!
I want the dumper for myself. I will keep my collection of games. I just want it for convenience. especially if they can figure out how to make it so the mig switch acts more like an R4 card so I can scroll through my games instead of randomly getting a game by repeatedly inserting and removing the cartridge because having a large library would make that more inconvenient than actually just putting the game in the switch
Amazing video :)
Great video!
Nintendo needs to make a security key on official cartridge so if its cloned to the mig switch cartridge launching it will come up with a error
Like a SIM card or FIDO key?
How long did it take for you to get the mig after buying it?
would it be possible to use the dumper to add mods to the dumped games, or do you still need a modded switch?
Modded switch, 100%
The new game returns issue is a real concern.
How is Nintendo going to make someone whole if they were victims to playing a game that they bought retail that's 100% legit but they were unaware if the game was dumped prior? Considering the mig copy and the real cartridge are identical in every way, how would they tell who has the retail copy in their hands? It seems kinda BS to just outright ban that game certificate without any recourse.
They ban the console I'd, not the game cert
If they just banned the game cert, you'd be fine
Nintendo has ZERO console banning appeals process. If they bother to put one into motion seven years later for this, I’ll buy a hat and eat it
They also famously despise used game sales and have never valued customers who participate in them. Not since the ‘80s
Well. That’s good to know. I tend to think that even if I have my games dumped I’ll keep them in case something goes wrong with the dump.
This is such a bad idea to create this. buying used games is extra risky.
They only care about money and themselves not the common consumer

@@Bread11362The problem is it puts even the legit users in bad limelight. I am getting one just to see how it works and may be make a few different SD cards for travel so that I don't have to carry the cartridges with me or play my legit copies on emulator. I have zero intention of selling any of my games
Actually the servers are still up the only thing they disabled was the auth servers for the wii u and 3ds so i think they have conjoined Infrastructure It was also pretty clear that they shut down the servers for security reasons. The steel diver servers were actually disabled before the shutdown for this reason.
What i understood about this Mig switch is that as long the console isn't connected to the internet, it should be fine , buy brand new games if you intend to play online , and buy used games if you intend to play offline , but even then the risk there would be if you are planning to get DLC for the offline games .
I know it has nothing to do with the MIG Switch dumper, but is it possible to use the MIG Switch to transfer digitally-purchased games to the micro SD card there to preserve space on the Nintendo Switch internal storage? My cousin has a Nintendo Switch with a broken micro SD card slot, preventing from expanding the system's storage.
The fact that this video isn’t performing like other videos is insane. It’s literally one of the best psa for Nintendo switch users
it's kinda funny that people are talking about this NOW that there's a public dumper (that doesn't require additional hacks or glitchchips on the console side), given that I predicted this years ago as soon as people found carts had a signed cart-unique CERT sector.
although I was mainly thinking about trolls buying games, dumping CERT (without ever using it in their own console), returning the games, and then uploading the CERTs publicly some time later so N would ban the cart and thus any console using that CERT.
i didn't think that people would be stupid enough to buy games, dump them, and return them, with a risk of their OWN console getting banned too if they ever went online with that dumped game later. but i guess i forgot about "think of the average person then realise 50% are dumber than that".
When I’m typing this, I haven’t watched this specific video yet, but I have heard Jeff speak on this topic before, so here’s the TLDR version of how this effects you if don’t buy one (take this with a grain of salt)
Here’s the scenario: Someone buys a Switch game; (legally, through Amazon, GameStop, etc.). They dump their game with the device shown (completely legally, as Nintendo allegedly allows this for emulators). They then return their game they bought (to Amazon, GameStop, etc.). Then, Amazon, GameStop, etc. sells these games as reused (unaware someone dumped this specific copy, with this specific ID (while for an example, I’ll use 420). The person buys the ID:420 game, (which someone else dumped), then you use the legally bought game on your switch. Nintendo sees, “hey this person is using ID:420 game, but that person (the one who dumped and returned it) has already been using it, so this person (the who bought it reused), but must be hacking. Then they ban the person who just bought it reused…
So…… be careful buying used games (or just DONT anymore)…
They ban both consoles
Not just the new one
preordered mine back in january and im still waiting.. i have a few switch exclusives i want to play but i dont like the actual hardware. i do own a switch its just a switch lite and i just have it powered off in the closet waiting for a softmod for mariko switches to release
Back in the PS1 days, I knew guys who would rent from blockbuster just to rip games then sell the copies for five dollars a pop. I'm surprised this is still going on.
The Mig Switch Dumper is perfect for copy switch game and good video too Thank you my dude
Nice video, thanks! Weird question maybe. But what Windows laptop are you using in the video, and what theme? It looks so clean?

Hey I made it at 10:54 lmao here's the big caveat with the "abuse" the person with cloned copy will also get banned so are people really going to risk theirs Switch's after buying or renting to make copys?
My question is, if I dump my games and play them on my steam deck, and I let my friend borrow that game. Would they get banned? Or because I’m playing through and emulator they would be fine
I don't know the answer, so don't take this as correct but... If the Steam Deck is internet connected, it's likely that many games ping home with auth credentials so be wary. You might be able to set the Steam Deck emulation to not connect online and then it *shouldn't* be a problem?
Good question
You will be fine cause switch emulators can't connect to Nintendo server.
Even on Hacked Switch, you most likely will be fine playing "borrowed" games or cheating on legit bought games on sysnand unless you connect to the Nintendo server, and there are several tools made exactly to prevent connecting on Nintendo server, which you will have setup by default if you follow the correct guide.
Well, I guess I'll have to make sure I buy my Switch games New going foward. This hurts the used game market, dammit, DammitJeff. lol But great info! Thanks for the video!
Here's something I must ask though, can I replace certain individual files from the original with the ones installed on this cartridge and use the original with those said modded files with online functionality without the risk of getting banned? I'm not asking this for nefarious means as I just simply wanna mod some of my games. There's some really cool mods for Ultimate I wanna install onto my own game but can't due to me not owning a moddable Switch. To those who've installed mods on this thing PLEASE let me know, because I don't wanna brick my system or accidentally brick a first gen unpatched Switch which is $300.
What if both users are offline? Do they steal get banned if they open the same game at the same time?
11:30 if your gonna do this stick to a platform with the 1 rom file like wii and whatnot, your library may not have wii but wtv your planning on playing, if it uses a set seed and if others playing it will get banned because you ripped dont do it, imo. In reality i cant stop you but i can still judge
If i use a MIG card for traveling the seas, but never connect my switch to internet there's no risk right?
One thing that isn't discussed is what will have with sealed Switch game prices. I own a few expensive Switch games like Shantae and the Pirate's Curse and TMNT Radical Edition. Already they're going for insane prices but a few years from now and maybe the demand for clean, sealed games which won't lead to a ban will only increase. That wasn't my intention when I bought these games but was just busy and never got around to playing them. Even if Nintendo reissues games for the upcoming Super Switch, that used, cheap game market for the Switch is broken.
Okay, so I have 1 modded switch and one unmodded. The modded one is used to play my legally owned games offline with cheats. Say what you will about cheat codes, but sometimes they make gameplay that was originally tedious or grindy, enjoyable. My unmodded switch is used to play games with my friends online.
Because I have a modded switch and a 1tb micro sd, I know how easy it is to dump games. For this reason, I never purchase used Switch games, and I never lend my Switch games out. If there is any ambiguity to the origin of a Switch cart I'm going to play, I'll use my modded switch (which is always offline).
Now that game dumping is even more accessible (before you needed a modded switch and only certain models were moddable), I imagine these issues with used games will only get worse.
I hope there will be a dumper for 3DS games that will be as simple as this one. I noticed some games don't work anymore. Would be great to have some m-discs with backups of my games. Nintendo should do something about this, it's their security system that doesn't work anymore. You can't ban people who are legally using their devices and legally purchased games.
Bro that already exists. Look it up! After you hack your 3ds, you can backup your own games to an sdcard with FBI
7:30
LETS GOOOOOO!!!!!
You get banned only if you're playing online though right? And only banned from that game?
ya gotta think that retailers are going to push nintendo to do something about the ban issue. It makes sense to ban the cart from working if they can but banning the console is way too extreme and has the potential of killing the 2nd hand market completely but then again maybe they just don't give a shit at all.
Nintendo doesn't want used games in circulation. As far as they're concerned, used resellers have been digging into their bottom dollar since the 1980s and can politely eat their whole ass
I didnt even know that this was a thing, it makes me scared of losing my Borderlands: The Handsome Jack Collection even more now because my nephew more than likely stole my copy of the cartridge and i can get banned any day, now jfc
Can't wait to get mine
what kind of computer is that at 4:24
I've no joke been dreaming for a device like this since second year of the switch's lifespan, and when I talked about something like this or saw others having the same idea we were all told we were crazy as it was not possible. Well who's the crazy one now
Sick! My switch isn't hackable anymore since it needed a mainboard replacement.
What does this mean for the downloaded games on my switch will I never be able to play them after the server shut down
You'd need to have a switch that can be modded, but it's possible to save your downloaded games
Man, that's a cool Switch emulator, I sure do hope no shady business behind the scenes with the developers happens. Oh wait-

Was the banned console banned for using the legit cart only or did it use the MiG Switdh as well?
The only way to tell if a ban is due to a duplicate game card and not the MiG Switch is to have never used it on the banned console that way a copied used game can be guaranteed to be the ban cause.
Using the MiG Switch at all and having a ban from a dupe card does not rule out the MiG Switch itself as the cause.
Is that a double pop filter set up?

Imagine an entire second-hand market that sells only game reproductions from dumps. Damn.
At least it’s a bit comforting this comes out near the end of the switch’s life cycle, but hell if you thought getting physical games is a safe bet now you can never know anymore
They need to make a way to appeal for unban by showing a receipt or something else
can you add an english patch on a japanese game on mig switch
This will affect both the person that copied the used game and they one buying used game. Why, because they also can be banned as well so it's not just the buyers of used game but the person whom cheated to get money for the game. So it's a double edge sword so if you backup and play and sell the "cart" game be careful what you wish for as you will also get banned as well. This is the part those talking about the "Dumper" don't tell people.

iirc backing up games in the States isn't legal if you have to break/bypass DRM to do it. In Canada it's a bit more of a grey area I believe (just don't profit off it, share it, or cost Nintendo any damages and you can't really be punished) but I'm not anything close to a lawyer, so take this comment with a few pounds of salt.
That's true for any media here in the US. Legal unless you are breaking or bypassing means to prevent it, but I don't think this particular section of the DMCA was ever tested in the courts.
Take a look at movies and TV shows. A lot of people now are setting up their own private use home media servers and dumping rips or their blu-ray and DVD collection to it giving them access to blu-ray quality content at the convenience of streaming. Heck, there are videos here on UA-cam describing the process and the software to use to rip them.
@@ZeldagigafanMatthew Fair point, there probably would’ve been lawsuits already if the media companies really cared about people ripping movies for themselves and not sharing them. I believe the closest thing to case law we have for that is Universal v. Corley (which is over 23 years old at this point), but that was (based on my limited understanding) more about whether the DeCSS ban was a violation of free speech rather than whether DeCSS was fair use.
Can the dumper dump digital titles?
Figure out how to put a Switch store download on a physical cartridge that a Switch will read just like a box copy
Once that’s sorted? Yes
Man, I kind of want to get one of these so I can play my Switch games on the Steam Deck that seems sick as hell.
Uh huh.
Before this when groups would dump games for modded switches I feel like they just put the cart away and called it a day since its a dirty cart thats insta banned but now no used cart's are safe since any asshole can dump them and sell it back so i'm glad I have a huge collection where I know i'm the only owner but yeah def no more used switch games especially "new" gamestop games lol

Dude I used to that shit with gamefly with ps3 and 360
Buying and returning games seems way too much to dump them, at this point just get a modded switch and download em much much easier and no damage to anybody else, plus if you set it up correctly you can play it as a normal switch as well and very little risk of ban
The mig is good for game preservation without having2 mod your Switch however this is going to make it impossible 2 buy second hand games because if your cart has been dumped your Switch gets banned until the Switch is no longer supported buy the big N
Im excited to dump my own games. The only problem is i have some games physical and some games digital. Ive been double dipping on a few of my favorite so i can have a physical cart to back up and a digital copy to play on my switch and soon to be switch 2 (i hope 🙏). And used games are pretty much off the table now so im gonna be spending mad cash to get 2nd copies of some of my games. I know its probably stupid but tbh its for peace of mind knowing the physical back ups and digital games are different and I have no chance of being banned. Granted im not doing this with every game. Just the ones i really like and ones with a lot of mods.
How about just staying offline when using used copies?
yea i thought this too. i think that’d be fine
I'd imagine that is safe currently, but there's no guarantee it stays that way. Nintendo could update the Switch to track offline game usage and upload the certificates and their timestamps the next time you are online and then ban certificates with overlapping timestamps.
That said, that would be a significant development and upkeep cost to maybe catch some people when the fear of used games might be enough to discourage most people.
What about dlc of a game
so hypothetically could you be on the same game at the same time if atleast one player is completely offline (forgetting all Internet settings maby even airplane mode if you wanna be a real stickler about it)
and a follow up to that on if you were to use "yeezy" 7:33 would that lock out "yeezy" and the switch? or would they be even more secure from banning on both sides, im asking because I wanna buy a steam deck and share my cartridges with my family but I don't want our switches to get banned
This will kill Nintendo Switch Online and the eStore before it kills the used game market. If tons of people get banned, then they will just load up the mig switch with downloaded copies or continue buying used copies and not bothering with online.
What if you don’t connect to internet
I really dislike y'all, most people doing this protects himself in the never ending discourse that "Nintendo is greedy" "Piracy is morally okay if its nintendo" but this has no salvation, if you dump games you don't own and let other people switches get banned, you don't care about morals, heck even about your own community, if you do this you are supporting nintendo, because now people will try to buy new replacement switches and avoid used games and buy the full new game copy that goes directly to nintendo as a new sale, don't be a disappointment to everyone, doing this might result on you getting something for free, but what about others?? I'm so mad to this, let's hope at least people will no actually try this because the will need to buy used games and maybe they get a copy that was already used like this and they get banned, womp womp
It really just hurts the regular people, these are the type of people that has no morals at all, but keep blaming Nintendo on their own behavior. It’s crazy to me how people excuse is that is niche community and all that but if mig didn’t exist we wouldn’t have a crisis on second hand market
100% agreement with that.
Terrifying thought occurred.
Do you guys think there will be people trying to figure out how to spoof security certificates on the switch games next?
Now i don't know if i wanna buy a switch with used switch games. I wouldn't wanna get banned just for buying an used copy of smash ultimate and how i wanted to play online.
