I'm a big fan of honesty. "Hey old lady at the mom and pop thrift shop, there were two discs in this box. Does that count as one game or two?" "Why thank you for your honesty young whipper-snapper, you just keep that extra disc on the house!" You'd be surprised how much people appreciate honesty and even when it doesn't go in your favor, you can know that you did the right thing. I've built up my game collection in this exact way as well (my largest collections are 360, about 360, and PS2, about 430) as well as probably a thousandish other games and a few dozen consoles and please be encouraged that it's entirely doable being honest with people.
I’m a 2000’s kid but I always found retro games more fascinating and I grew up playing my dad’s SNES. Ever since, I grew my own retro video game collection.
Takes me back to the good old days.... I've been gaming over 45 years... started when I was around 6 and im still gaming at 53! Sadly about 5years ago I had to sale off most of my old systems and I've been trying to figure out how to start building a collection... and thanks to you, I think im going to try this method. I have a 13y old who loves to game, we have both started watching your channel and are excited to try this together as a team! We are starting with 20 dollars a piece.... Let's the games begin! Thanks again!
why i love retro video games? honestly i see tons of nostalgia myself never saw growing up from 2002-2006 as i gotten older at 21 i watch console/video game collection videos which inspire me to do it now to present day gonna be 23 years old by march my collection grew and met few people along the way
I was born in ‘87. My uncle got me started on NES playing Duck Hunt. Then my dad got me a N64. Been hooked ever since. Crazy to think of 90’s games as “Retro”. Feels like yesterday.
Why I like retro gaming so much is cause basically I grew up around it. It brings back so many good memories just picking up a game and just reliving the memories and thinking about the days where me and my cousin's would just sit around and play video games just about all night and all day. Also think back when my parents didn't have much money but my dad would try to go rent a game I've been wanting to play like he did when I was younger and he surprised me with mario kart 64. Also something else I love about retro games is just finding games that I didn't get to play growing up or discovering an amazing game that I didn't even know about. Retro gaming just brings back so many good memories. It was like an escape and you didn't have to worry about anything.
I love retro games because it gave me an opportunity to escape from my upbringing. And also allowed me to have fun with other friends and building memories. And I can’t wait to share that with my son.
Growing up in the 80s and 90s games with the best! The feel of accomplishment beating a Nintendo game was awesome! When you only had 3 continues. They don't make games challenging like they used to! That's why I love'em!
I like not only retro video games but retro ARCADE games and collect them. I own Pac Man, Donkey Kong, Battletoads, Double Dragon, Popeye and others. Brings back memories of the fun days of the 80s, and makes my home bling like Vegas when they are all turned on!
The reason I love retro video games is mainly because of the nostalgia and reliving my childhood through the games I grew up with. So many fond memories playing Goldeneye on the n64 with my dad.
*Reason Why I Love Retro Games:* I was born in the early 2000's so obviously there were better and newer consoles such as the Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360 but the first console I ever played was my mom's original NES. I grew up playing her NES a lot, the two games I played the most were Duck Hunt and Super Mario Bros 3. When I was about 8 or 9 I got a SNES for Free and me and my brother played Super Mario World every day. Super Mario Workd was the first video game I ever completed. Later as I got older, I discovered Emulators and started learning about other consoles such as the Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis. Though N64 and Genesis always felt kind of hard to play with a keyboard so I mostly played SNES ROM's and discovered some great titles like Super Mario RPG, Kirby Super Star, and Yoshi's Island! When I was about 14 I started learning about ROM Hacking and started making my own versions of Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario World. To keep it short, the reason I love Retro Games is because its a stape of history and you dont have to be born in that decade to play or like those games, retro games will always be there for you!🙂🎮🕹
@@retrorick I know! I'm still happy that I completed it too! Though I could never beat the Levels on the SPECIAL world but now I probably could since I learned a few tricks from Super Mario Maker.
I love retro video games because growing up as an only child, video games were a source of comfort and fun. I still go back to my favorites when I’m feeling down because it’s the ultimate surge of nostalgia!
I collect for the same reason most of us collect retro video games. Nostalgia! I grew up with the NES, SNES, and N64 and kept the games and systems from my childhood. Just last year, around this time, I got bit hard by the nostalgia bug! I have spent WAY too much money this past year on games, but I love the hobby so much. This video gives me a new strategy to try. Maybe I can save a ton of money this year! Keep up the great work and I can’t wait to see how you do this!
Retro games gives you the feeling of being a kid again staying up late with your cousins trying to get to the next level...try after try defeating the big boss...and just having a good time! Great memories!
Cool $10 game collection challenge I love collecting retro video games I never thought I would be a game collector with a collection I'm a huge Mario fan I'm collecting ones I had when I was a kid and ones I missed out on as well as other games it's fun to relive your childhood and go back to the classics
Oh man this is literally one of the best gaming UA-cam concepts I've ever seen! I love Retro games because as I get older I tend to grasp things of my childhood that bring me back to the simpler times....
I grew up with the NES and SNES playing with my dad and brother. Now as a dad myself, I've enjoyed collecting and sharing the games I grew up with with my kids now. I love it and they love it!
Retro, I feel like this video and this series started a big retro movement and im glad to be a part of it. Its so much fun being able to amass a huge collection while saving for a house.
I love your videos bro! So much nostalgia from the 90's. Your inspiring me to start my own collection, I found my old GBC, GBA SP, and PS2 that still has the network adapter. Going to start hitting those thrift stores
I love retro video games because it brings me back to my childhood memories of playing games with my brother and friends. It was such a simple, but amazing time that I miss everyday.
I'm going to enjoy this series for sure. I love playing retro games cause they are what I grew up on and they just bring back so many memories and they are just down right fun.
Also, I like retro video games because it takes me back to much simpler times. Have great memories playing snes with my dad and staying up late while we listened to old classic rock records
I love retro video games because of the feeling of nostalgia. My first console(s) I played ok as a kid was a ps1 and a ps2 and even to this day I get nostalgic to buy/ and play games on my ps1 and ps2. My boyfriend has even got a ps1 and ps2 so we can loan games and play them. Good luck on the 10$ challenge can’t wait for the next episode 😄
Why do I love video games it takes me back to Sleeping over at my friends house, begging my parents if I could stay over or if he could stay over. Staying up all night playing games, eating pizza, watching movies, wrestling the list goes on. It was my escape it was/is my happiness.
I love retro video games because they remind of a simpler time when me and my siblings would play our SNES all day long during the summer in our garage. Our favorite was the Donkey Kong Country games and this one Mickey game that i forgot the name of. Our mom got rid of it years later since we didn't play it as much but as an adult I miss playing those games. Your channel brings me back to those times and love watching your videos because of that.
Im so glad they bring you back....Donkey kong country is one of my fav games of all time. They actually made i believe 3 different mickey games on the SNES
I'm only 15, but I have a pretty solid retro game collection and I love collecting them to preserve the past and also because they're legitimately good games!
Just discovered your channel and this series through your recent game room tear down/rebuilding videos and really digging your content dude! This $10 challenge especially has been sort of scratching my itch to go game hunting while being stuck at home. My favorite thing about retro gaming has been becoming the sort of historical aspect of it all. Seeing how the NES evolved to the SNES, N64, or the Genesis to the Saturn and Dreamcast, etc. and how the games progressed as well. It's of course a lot of nostalgia too, but lately I've been gaining a greater appreciation for the history of it all as well!
Pure Nostalgia and My favorite memories growing up.. And it's very true.. You can make a collection pay for itself.. And it's the nostalgia that we buy and sell.. Yes you can buy an emulator but there's just something about having the consoles and physical copies/carts and discs and putting them into your systems Just like having the Gi Joe's and He Man figures you grew up with.
Hands down awesome video retro rick! Just like the last vid this is truly 100% possible to start off any collection and this just proved it👍🏼. Love your videos man and honestly retro games give you a since of innocence, it’s fun it’s what all our childhoods are. granted newer games are fun but I don’t get the same feeling compared to playing a nes or snes game they all have a meaning or connection to us in some way and that’s why I love em way more than modern consoles.
Retro Rick not to long ago I came across a ad for genesis model 2 with a total of 12 great titles being that I’m a huge TMNT fan hyperstone heist was one included but the best part about the pickup the guy sold me the lot for 12 dollars👌🏼 this is a example of your video being that even just from turtles alone easy paid off more than what it was worth but the other titles were worth great value and surly made up more that what I paid for to find more games I actually need.
Retro games take me back to a time where life was fun and it was filled with adventure. You could find happiness and excitement in the smallest things. When you didn't have to pay bills or worry about a 9 to 5. When you play retro games as an adult, it feels innocent. It feels as though you can just have pure enjoyment without feeling the fluster of adulthood.
Hell of a way to start the series! Turning $10 into $70! I love retro games because of the simplicity of them and awesome 8-bit soundtrack. I can still hear in my head the eerie ghosts sacks flying in the air in Ghosts N Goblins. LOL
Great start and some really good finds! I love retro games as I was an 80's kid. Brings back lot's of memories of being with family and conquering games together when we were younger.
I’m only 19 but my collection of retro games just give you a sense of childhood and an escape from reality. I love the old arcade style games that I can pick up at any moment and it’s the same thrill every time!
Retro games not only take you back to your childhood but I like the fact that it’s possible to get a lot of these games/systems that I was never able to get as a kid but saw all tv/magazine ads for back in the day.
As a 2000s kid, I don't have that much nostalgia for retro video games, but I love them because they, for me, have a great historical value in the same way as an old book. Every single piece of media tells a story and have had an importance to at least one person, which is why collecting is so fun to me. I really feel like I'm preserving part of history and of someone's life...
I love old video games because it reminds me of simpler times. The world is advancing so much it’s fun to play something simple with so many great memories attached to it.
Retro gaming just brings so much nostalgia - the excitement of a new game as a kid, playing with friends, and the challenge of them. There was no internet walkthroughs or UA-cam. You had to put time into them, find a tips & tricks book, talk to staff at the rental place. Ah those were the days!
Just started watching this from the start have seen alot of the others. But what has been great is my 11 year old daughter has been watching with me and has enjoyed it and has made her want to learn more about the toys and games that she sees you pick up. Thank you for the amazing content and please keep it up!
Heck ya man, im fairly certain it was empty...i always check every game case i see bc that wind waker situation happens all the time...ill def check next time im there and see if its in there!
Growing up during the 80s and 90s meant ive seen video games develop from the very start, and they never cease to amaze me and bring me those memories and nostalgia,
Watching the series again. I have never re-watched a UA-cam series before. Nice work man! I love retro gaming because I can play games from my childhood and play games I never got to play either because I didn't know they existed or I can finally afford them now with my own money.
Nice pick ups! Dude, one of my pet peeves is the folks that take their sweet time in front of the DVDs at thrift stores. It's like "move it, that copy of when Harry met Sally isn't gonna change your life". I mostly play retro cause that's what I grew up playing. I grew up poor, so what we had access to was always old. I was rocking out at four and five playing Atari. That was in the early mid nineties. Then, I got a game boy and Sega in the late nineties. So, I've always have played retro.
hahaha exactly....i didnt grow up with much either so i was always about a console behind, but still had a great childhood nonetheless playing all these awesome games!
I love retro games because it’s takes me back to a time where I was happiest. Every time I put a cart in my SNES I become so overwhelmed with nostalgia & joy. Great escape from reality. Rad RVCA hat btw!
Man my girlfriend and I both love the 90s and love yard/garage/thrift sales. You just gave me the perfect continuous date idea! Much love and love the content
I love retro games cause not only is it nostalgic, but also because my wife and I can bond over them. A lot of the newer games on Playstation and Xbox can be a bit complicated for her, so we are able to play games that we had as kids and have a great time.
@@retrorick I'd go with Mario Party game..a lot of our gaming then and even now was MarioKart, Mario Tennis, Super Smash Bros, GoldenEye, and Hang Time. Even with the more recent generations playing the multiplayer with 4 people was king. Halo, Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare, etc.
Retro games were the games of my childhood. They were what we had to escape reality. The older I get they bring me back to those days. Late nights, weekend sleep overs, Good memories. A lot of them have better story lines then games nowadays.
Just found your channel and its awesome! Retro video game collecting takes me back to my childhood when it was simpler. I wish my kids could experience going to buy a new game by pulling the ticket from the toysrus shelf, renting a game from a video store, spending all weekend playing that one game. No internet just good old fashioned nintendo power to get through parts of games when you are stuck. Man i miss those days.
Yes I’m so excited for this series!! I’ve been trying to grow my collection more and get into flipping and you’ve been a huge inspiration for me! And what’s not to love about retro games haha, I guess a lot of it’s a huge nostalgia thing for me, even though I grew up in the 2000s my parents had a NES which me and my brother played a lot of growing up :)
I love Retro video games because I'm a 90s kid who grew up with the neighborhood kids huddled around a ps1, n64, genesis, etc. trying to score the most points so i can stay gaming. That's how we decided back then who went next. Lowest score/ losing a life gives up the controller. So many great memories.
Love retro games because it takes me back to simpler times... Also the newer games are huge. I like my games short and sweeet. Loved the video and good luck!
Love this new series you're doing man. Excited to see what ya find next. Never played that Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy game but loved watching the tv show.
I love video games cause there fun. Im 46 and when I was a kid my first system was a Intellivision then an Atari 2600. Then I remember the commercials for the new nintendo system. And I wanted one. I got it for Xmas. Then got rob the robot in box and then had about 200 nes games in box including little Samson and stadium events. Then got the new super Nintendo and genesis. But as I grew up. And moved around a lot. I sold my collection for basically nothing. Which I regret. Later I got a ps2 collection at a church sale and played for awhile but sold it cause was collecting VHS and dvds. Now I 10,000 vhs dvds and blue rays. Wish I would have kept collecting games. Now I restarted collecting games. Have over 1000 games and 40 plus consoles. I remember getting legend of Zelda for nes when it came out. Me and my friend during summer we stayed at each others house and I remember staying up like 3 for 4 straight days till we beat it. Made lots of friends playing Nintendo.. And I love finding games and stuff I grew up with. U have great videos
I'm in love with retro games because they take me back to a simple time. Going over to my aunt and uncles house, popping in super mario bros. 3 from the all stars collection. Meanwhile my cousins off in another room playing on the newly released PlayStation. The parents are in the living room watching rented movies or playing n64.... the best memories.
This will be so much fun to watch! I love retro games because I was born in 1985 and have nothing but great memories of my older brother and I sitting around the NES playing Contra till midnight on the weekends.
Just found this series! Love the idea. Love retro games because of the nostalgia and excitement that gets renewed from when you were a kid when you see this stuff again
Man, just what I need is something else to collect! I stumbled onto this video and now I want to start an original NES collection! Can’t wait to watch the whole series now...
My cousin got me into collecting retro video games. It's always really cool to come across something you've never heard of and we sit down and play games that we find. Sometimes they're good, sometimes laughably bad
Brings back all the nostalgia of coming home after school and just playing till bedtime and not having the stress of job and kids etc. Or when you got a snow day and just got comfy and played till your eyes were blurry lol
Great video, I miss my childhood, I, like you, pick up items from the 80s and 90s a few months ago I snagged a street shark at goodwill for 99 cents. I everytime i find nes games for 2 and 3 bucks I pick them up even I'd I already have 2 or 3 copies, I just love nostalgia

Dude as I was just rewatching this video and at 9:38 there’s a Toy Story game right under the Mario, that sells for like 15-20 bucks!
Cmonstergame noooo! Thanks for the heads up man , I need to look more carefully
Thank you man! I am seriously so pumped for this series...and well said on your love for retro gaming!
@@shawny1888 Woah! What a steal man...that is one of my fav games of all time
Retro games take me back to a time where life was fun and it was filled with adventure. You could find happiness and excitement in the smallest things. When you didn't have to pay bills or worry about a 9 to 5. When you play retro games as an adult, it feels innocent. It feels as though you can just have pure enjoyment without feeling the fluster of adulthood.
Tyler Green oh man, the good old days...take me back!
Thanks man! And yes me too! We all played video games in my house growing up
I’m only 19 but my collection of retro games just give you a sense of childhood and an escape from reality. I love the old arcade style games that I can pick up at any moment and it’s the same thrill every time!
I like to play retro games because I find some of them very challenging and they are fun to play with friends.
For sure, they are def challenging...kids these days dont even know!
To be honest the only retro video game I play is the Nintendo 64s Mario cart. I just love your videos man! Supper entertaining and fun to be apart of.
Well that was a good one to play! Thank you so much for watching man 👊
Love retro gaming because newer games are way too complicated. Give me something that I can pick up and play and then get back to adulting. :)
Jarod Clarke haha I think the same thing!
Retro games not only take you back to your childhood but I like the fact that it’s possible to get a lot of these games/systems that I was never able to get as a kid but saw all tv/magazine ads for back in the day.
Bro that intro is powerful. I love retro video games because it just reminds me of when times were more simple and how it was an escape.
Love We Sing in Sillyville, brings back some memories!
Ha that is amazing, i had never heard of it but my wife loved it as a kid!
I love old video games because it reminds me of simpler times. The world is advancing so much it’s fun to play something simple with so many great memories attached to it.
Heck ya man....favorite Donkey Kong game on the SNES, thats the real question!
This is awesome! Cant wait to follow along for this.
Thank you so much for watching, its going to be fun!
@@retrorick Of course man, its going to be fun to watch!
Retro gaming just brings so much nostalgia - the excitement of a new game as a kid, playing with friends, and the challenge of them. There was no internet walkthroughs or UA-cam. You had to put time into them, find a tips & tricks book, talk to staff at the rental place. Ah those were the days!
Fellow Arkansan here. I love playing retro games with my kids. It’s fun to share a piece of my childhood with them.
Retro games take me back to a simpler time...and I love sharring them with my kids :)
Yes!!! Im the same way man...thanks for watching 👊
I love retro games because it takes me back to the days where my biggest worry was coming home from and getting to the next level !
Ha i remember that oh so well! Final Fantasy 7 had me day dreaming all day about getting done with school and playing all night
I like retro video games because it is cool to see old games and how they look
Silverwolf 777 for sure man, I agree! Thanks for watching
Great to see that retro is valuable
Agreed...there are some pretty rare ones out there
Just started watching this from the start have seen alot of the others. But what has been great is my 11 year old daughter has been watching with me and has enjoyed it and has made her want to learn more about the toys and games that she sees you pick up. Thank you for the amazing content and please keep it up!
I go retro to take me back to my childhood. Now after watching your series for weeks I’ve been hunting to find games me and my kids can play. Thanks
Rockband 3 for the 360 in the first pickup clip would have been better profit than Guitar Hero 5. Good start to the collection.
Heck ya man, im fairly certain it was empty...i always check every game case i see bc that wind waker situation happens all the time...ill def check next time im there and see if its in there!
Growing up during the 80s and 90s meant ive seen video games develop from the very start, and they never cease to amaze me and bring me those memories and nostalgia,
For sure! I love that we have been able to see all the advancements through the years in gaming...its incredible
Hahaha the guy gave you a hard time after the fact lol too funny the look on your face cracked me up dude
haha i was totally thrown off...you could tell he was stewing about it
@@retrorick man you should of told him to kick rocks old man lol
Watching the series again. I have never re-watched a UA-cam series before. Nice work man! I love retro gaming because I can play games from my childhood and play games I never got to play either because I didn't know they existed or I can finally afford them now with my own money.
Thanks so much for watching Bill!!
Salvation Army is awesome. Best thrift prices and the staff is always friendly!
Couldnt agree more...they are awesome!
Love this! Retro games just bring me back to childhood and I honestly enjoy playing retro games over anything newer.
Heck ya, me to my friend!
I love retro games because it’s takes me back to a time where I was happiest. Every time I put a cart in my SNES I become so overwhelmed with nostalgia & joy. Great escape from reality. Rad RVCA hat btw!
Heck ya so do I! Thank you my man
Man my girlfriend and I both love the 90s and love yard/garage/thrift sales. You just gave me the perfect continuous date idea! Much love and love the content
What a great idea! My wife hates thrifting 😂
I love retro games cause not only is it nostalgic, but also because my wife and I can bond over them. A lot of the newer games on Playstation and Xbox can be a bit complicated for her, so we are able to play games that we had as kids and have a great time.
Because so many were party games and you can play with 4 people! Plus nostalgia
For sure! What was your favorite Mario Party game?
@@retrorick I'd go with Mario Party game..a lot of our gaming then and even now was MarioKart, Mario Tennis, Super Smash Bros, GoldenEye, and Hang Time. Even with the more recent generations playing the multiplayer with 4 people was king. Halo, Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare, etc.
Retro games were the games of my childhood. They were what we had to escape reality. The older I get they bring me back to those days. Late nights, weekend sleep overs, Good memories. A lot of them have better story lines then games nowadays.
Hey retro, watching a bunch of your old vids and loving your channel. Eff that guy who got mad, just walk away like you did. Best thing to do.
Great stuff :)
Thanks man! I just want to be just like you when I grow up
@@retrorick 😂😂😂
I love retro video games because there is no online gaming involved, just you and your buds shoulder to shoulder grinding
That is awesome! Well i def hope this series can help you even more in your area!
I’ve done it I finally got my hands on a SNES with two of my favorite games F-Zero and Super Mario World.
YES, two of the best games for sure on the console!
Love retro games because it takes me back to simpler times... Also the newer games are huge. I like my games short and sweeet. Loved the video and good luck!
I agree...sometimes i want to play something but i only have 15 mins. Games now days are so involved and long
Love this new series you're doing man. Excited to see what ya find next. Never played that Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy game but loved watching the tv show.
Thanks man! I actually have never played the game or watched the show
H A C K S
this is a family show sir...please no profanity 👽
I love retro video games because those were the games I grew up on.
Green Arrow heck ya, me too!
Dude I'm pumped to see what happens!
Ha thanks man, its going to be a fun series!
First adspace vid that hasn't pissed me off or disgusted me. Congrats dude. One of the few I don't have a problem seeing in ads. Hope you grow.
Let’s go!
Im pumped bro, thanks for watching!
Great start, Retro! I’m learning so much.
Thank you man....lets get some GAMESSSSS
This will be so much fun to watch! I love retro games because I was born in 1985 and have nothing but great memories of my older brother and I sitting around the NES playing Contra till midnight on the weekends.
Peteydubs contra is one of my fav games!
That’s amazing! Hope you enjoy it Curt!
Awesome video! Can’t wait to see how you progress.
Thank you! I have a feeling this series is going to be a ton of fun
Your Chibirobo video popped up in my YT recommendations and I loved the premise!! Starting from episode 1 now!
Heck yes! Hope you enjoy the series John, thanks for watching!
Another great video 👍👍
Thank you! this is going to be a fun series
I love ALL retro games. The nostalgia, the fun, honestly, great games from an era prior to movie-budget mega-games (that are all basically the same).
I do the same thing...ive never seen street shark stuff in the wild...im still on the lookout!
Seth brought me here. I binged his series, I will probably eat yours up before the weekend is over!
Thanks for checking out the Channel Hector!!
This is going to be a fun series man.
Agreed man, tough for sure but i think we can find some pretty sweet stuff on the cheap
I Love showing my children and now my grandchild all these retro games and how they still hold up to this day..
