That's funny, I thought I started Monitor Audio. I teamed up with Martin Colloms on the original design of the MA1. Mo came in probably 6 months later as production manager. Assembly started with myself providing KEF drive units via my retail shop Audio T (Cambridge) in those days KEF would not supply directly as we were unknown. Mo and myself spent many a long day in Mo's garage screwing drive units and soldering crossovers in place. After a while I sold out to Mo and joined AMC/UCI cinemas and worked developing 3 way cinema speakers and sound systems as chief engineer. I'm now retired and live in NZ. I still like Monitor Audio loudspeakers.
Would you recommend MA speakers made in the 2000s over todays modern speakers such as Klipsch?
@@ricetogo Personally I would not touch Klipsch speakers at all. I once had a pair for review and I thought they were dreadful. Boomy one note bass, tizzy HF, poor integration between the drive units. Resistant cabinet. etc. Very American.
@@MichaelBeeny Thank you Michael, it’s an honor to get an opinion from the man who was involved in designing and producing quality speakers in the early days. I love the quality of things that were produced back then. I am having a hard time deciding between an old Marantz SR 19 and the new modern day Sony receiver that support Dolby Atmost. Do you have any advice on those?
@@ricetogo It's hard to judge when I don't have the two to compare. The only thing to consider with a vintage piece of gear is the cost to keep it in mint condition. As equipment ages the capacitors dry out or even short. Some of the parts become obsolete. OK if you have the knowledge to fix these things, so buy with caution. On another point, most AV amplifiers are loaded with every format on the planet, but the amplifiers, largely because of the number of channels are compromised, power, heatsinking etc. I use an AV amplifier for movies but a separate discreet amplifier for stereo music. I talk and show such things on my UA-cam channel, should you be interested in more detail.
@@MichaelBeeny I will check it out. Thank you sir!
I have just recently had a pair of Monitor Audio R352's which were going in the skip from someone who is ill.. All they needed was a coat of Liberon Ebony Wood Stain & they are now my Pride & Joy in my living room .. the sound quality is just amazing after my Monitor Audio 9's which at the time were just amazing.. but 36 yrs on the Monitor Audio R352's are back after being in a attic for 10 yrs & the person is happy they are being looked after...
Just bought my first (preowned) pair of MA's. The Silver 8's. Love em. In the top 5 of everything Ive heard in the last 40 years.
I had the Studio 12's back in the 90's. I loved them.
I just bought a pair of Rs6 and Rs8 and im blown away! I love em! ❤️ Kudos to the Monitor Audio Team!
It is very important that a speaker making company informs you about the amplifier match. speaker companies try their products using an Amp - there's no other way - but very few inform about the Amp they used during the making and fine adjusting process
great to see the Studio 6 again in the video. I had them for a long time and gave me a lot of enjoyment. Still playing with my studio 2 which I will never sell...as I find that was the biggest mistake I made with the 6's.
Upgraded from Silver to gold. And 4G gold to 5G gold series. Always been happy with the quality and sound from MA.
Possiedo le Monitor Audio Studio 20 SEC, sono uno spettacolo!!!
I love my silver RX2
Amazing products indeed. What i truly love is the concave drivers concept. An inverted spherical cap .. a perfect seamless surface ... usable for all drivers from subwoofers to tweeters. It exudes perfection. Actually i wonder why not all drivers are made like that. The cone driver concept is very trivial in comparison. Maybe it is easier to make ? P.S. one of my very first speakers have been the R352 model. Very very exciting sound.
Thanks Gino!
@@monitoraudiogroup You're welcome ! kind regards, gino
Silver 2 very good bookshelf speakers
Studio 20se were there best or the one I wanted most. Strangely I don't like the platinum series, I'd go elsewhere at that price. Bring the studio 20s back as a proper audiophile speaker. I have gold reference 10, an old but still good speaker.
Back to vinyl and no regrets! I would like to upgrade my bronze B2
Would have liked to see the factory even though it’s in China. Our RX8's are great 👍🏼
Once I got my source right, my silver rx8's started singing to me!
I have bronze 2, bronce centre, and w12 silver woofer. I can't wait to get silver 500 fronts !!
I appreciate the dedication and attention to details, but I do wish that same attention you give to the sound was also given to the look…. No black grills? Can be an eyesore in my theater. Waiting to drop a few bucks on them once you find the time to offer them in black.
love what they do but it's a shame that they did not want to respond to my very simple technical question
All perfect , using your products and I’m very happy .One thing ,in next video will you actually skip that s...t corpo music from background that everyone using and put something yours, crafted to your brand or don’t play at all
Any opinions on the old R300 md?
Νice job , i want to work in speaker company factory !!
I’d put my gold 100 5G up against any standmount in its class.. probably beat most costing thousands more and looks better than anything out there
Anything made in a Chinese sweat factory suffers the same problem. Looks great initially and wear, fray and scuff terribly. MA speakers are now Chinese all you can eat, constructed without passion. Keep em. All this bull is just that. Plenty of great speakers still made with love out there. Uk, France, USA, Denmark, Canada etc etc..made by skilled and passionate company craftsmen.
I would no longer buy a Chinese product where possible because of the countries government and their treatment of my country Australia, however my RX8 speakers from about 5 years ago are great and not just a pretty face. They are beautifully made and were presented perfectly in their packaging. They will look and perform exceptionally for many decades. $2,300 a pair represented great value for such an awesome product.
Made in China - used to be designed and manufactured in UK.
Im tempted to audition the new bronze 200s.but the new looks I feel monitor audio have moved away from their iconic real wood finish which made them look like pieces of furniture
Hi Chris, it's great to hear that you're interested in listening to our new Bronze 200 speakers.
Our Bronze Series speakers have always used a vinyl wood effect veneer, including the new series.
However, you can find real wood veneer finishes on our Silver, Gold and Platinum II Series speakers.
Thanks,
They're bright and thin sounding, all their speakers are more or less like that. They're great in terms of bass, but the tweeter is too loud and the mids are lacking
The are the most shrill sounding speakers ive ever heard, my br1 bronze have no bass or treble its all midbass and nothing else.
The entire bronze range sucks, imo. - and I don't mind MA speakers, tbh. They just have to be a minimum the Silver range, if not higher up the ladder.
I am professional seller on second hand market since 2013.The Monitor Audio is one of the worse brand for sale on it.That says plenty.
Well then you’re not a very good salesperson, because they’re a good speaker.
Shame their products are now made in China - where they've gifted the Chinese all of their design know-how...
Monitor Audio= Big marketing, with big margin, and in reality the used drivers are cheap chinese drivers with PLASTIC basket! And if 1 driver go bad, the new driwer sold so much you'd do better if you buy a new one. Don't misunderstood me i was a big M.A. fan, it was a good brand till the 2000's, but now it's not that... Nowtime the big margin (profit) which remains with the merchant/traders allows many test writers/reviewers to encourage them to form a good opinion of the product and thus encourage them to buy, but in the reality this profit, whats land by the traders they are saved on the quality of the product, and thats not good for the buyers. Every newer modell much more trendyer outfit, lower quality, bigger profit, from this profit they can "buy" good reviews, and cheap cinese plastic product. This is the new directive by the Monitor Audio. I personally newer buy again from this brand.
But what about the profit margin on every other electronic and speaker product. The profit margin on a pair of $40,000 Focals, or $35,000 B&W. My M.O. RX8 speakers cost $2,300 a pair and looked and sounded way better than other $5,000 speakers I auditioned. Even sounded better than a pair of $7,000 B&W I listened to.
Plenty of brands have used plastic baskets including B&W and Focal.
why not make one for ownself. you could built one
