Between you and the rest of the world lies an interface that makes up 16% of your physical weight. This is your skin, the largest organ in your body: laid out flat, it would cover close to 1.7 square metres of ground. But besides keeping your organs in, what is its purpose? Emma Bryce takes us into the integumentary system to find out.
Lesson by Emma Bryce, animation by Augenblick Studios.

Hi, Can you make something about OPERA? Like Maria Callas
You think you’re better than me???
amazing_dude ghghhmmj
I learnt more about the skin from this one video than i did by writing pages after pages of notes in bio class 😭
exactly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe you're a visual thinker ^^
The Boy then you didn't pay attention.
Hey beautiful 🥰I've just created a new channel and uploaded a video on how to layer skincare like a pro? .. If u don't mind plz check it out 😊ua-cam.com/video/Gwk_F1mAH6Q/v-deo.html
and don't take me wrong, I'm not self promoting.. It's jst cuz my channel is new so it's difficult for people to reach a new channel 😇 God bless u.. Thank u
Same
Wait... So if I skin myself I'll weigh about 12kg less?
Sounds like a plan.
Snaily 😂
exercising? nah just skin myself and sell it
@@landenwade3583 lol
A big big plan
You won't be "skinny" then
The quote at the beginning was something to think about..
That is because it is a Mark Twain quote!
Yeah..You're right....🤔
I have actually thought about that myself for a long time! My thought was why not create clothes that are skinlike? If you get some dirt or mud on your skin, you just apply some water or soap & it dries within minutes.. whereas if you get dirt on your normal clothes, you have to wash them & then they take long time to dry up.
What's better than a TED-Ed video? A science TED-Ed! 🙌🏼💛
Science with Katie
Um.... That.... Doesnt....make....any sense......
If only you were as witty in your videos as you are in the comment section.
Science with Katie FoR Sure😁
Bluemon Don't u speak english? she just said that their videos about science topics are the best?
General S. Patton we don't need people like u trolling in the comments section. go be a disappointment to ur parents somewhere else
Skin is nature's natural wrapping paper.
Decode Channel and we are the nature’s gifts?
/r/ShowerThoughts
So one day someone is going to tear us open with their hands to see what's inside.
or hang us on a tree and beat us with a stick, waiting for us to spill our guts...literally..
RikXtreme4 and the kids will scream with delight as they pick our guts off teh floor and eat them in front of our hanging carcasses.
Ahh... Wasn't this wrapping paper analogy just beautiful.
His voice is so soothing...
Thanks TedEd for providing free content for my anatomy and physiology class. I have no budget and no curriculum assistance from our district, so this is perfect!
Is anyone watching this and taking a moment to say thank you to ourselves? This is just our skin alone ...it doesn’t even go into all the other organs and their individual working intricacies...
I’m always so in awe of, what we can naturally do! It is a shame that we forget that not only can we do all these things to stay alive but we are so biologically good at it we are not even in control for most of it ...it literally just happens, our bodies are so amazing that we must be mindful of how everyone of of us is a blessing and a master piece of Mother Nature.
Everything else we can do (talents and skills) and have (things we achieve in life) makes us all a little bit more extra ✨
These animated videos are so interesting and helpful. I use them with my 5th and 6th graders. The visuals make a great learning tool without making it childish for my class.
I am now officially addicted to TED-ED videos.
Me too 🤣
PLEASE KEEP UP WITH VIDEOS LIKE THIS, I LOVE THE WAY YOU EXPLAINED IT....
I was literally searching Ted Ed for a video on the integumentary system all day yesterday. Thanks.
Ah, skin....my favorite suit.

Awesome and interesting video
The human body is a very complex thing to understand. I'm glad this came up for us to understand better. Through this everyone know that 16% is weight of our skin and skin play important role in maintaining body temp.

If the square shown in the diagram represents 1 square centimetre, that's a damn big thumb
You are the best! I am Dermatologist and I love this page!
2.The video talks about the role of skin in the human body. The skin forms the basis of the integumentary system. It includes 3 layers: epidermis, dermis, subcutaneous tissue. The skin performs 3 main functions: protection, thermoregulation and receptor.Microorganisms living on the skin are also part of the skin's immune system. In conclusion, I would like to say that thanks
to the skin, we interact and feel connected with
the environment.
Awesome video! If I was a teacher I would show this to my class.
Awesome video you are educating people about this topic
The background music is very calming 😌

I love your teaching style
Just finished watching the video, very impressive I must say. Emma Bryce explained the skin's three layers, how they regulate temperature, defend against germs, and process physical sensations.
Bryce also talked about the skin's immune system and how it detects harmful pathogens.
Bryce explained how the skin regulates our body temperature and how it adapts to different environments.
I think he did a great job of explaining everything in a way that was both informative and engaging.
It’s clear to understand, eye-catching, and full of informations. Subscribed ❤️
Plus Notification Bell for a hard work put on animation
THANK YOU TED-ED

Oh, I love your videos!
Great video !!
Thank you
good information and calculation
I must say I love this video ❤
Will there be Dutch subtitles available anytime soon? That would be great for my Dutch students who need some more English practice. In Dutch there is very few good animations to be found on these topics. If you're having difficulties finding a translator I would volunteer. Groetjes.
hey I remember drawing that in my biology class!!
never thought about something that is so "ME". Thanks TedEd!
Ted ed is so nice to hear and enjoy its facts

This is very good . I really like it.
The little things in life are amazing
This was such an interesting video.
You had my full attention
Skin is the biggest organ in human body. It had 3 layers. Epidermis, dermis, hypodermis. Each layer has different functions including everything. Epidermis: first layer of skin, mainly consists of pores, dead cells that flake off every day. Dermis: a middle layer of skin that mainly consists of sweat glands, sebum, oil glands, hair follicle, blood vessels, nerves. Hypodermis: a layer only consists of fats of oil
Although this video goes a bit fast, it is by far one of the best and informative videos I have watched based on the skin.
Thank you TED Ed! 👍🏼
Very interesting and informative video.
We can protect our skin from diseases by covering it with proper dressings and taking regular baths.
Thanks 👍
A perfect educational tool, even for EFL students, I've just shared it on my EFL blog which follows a transdisciplinary approach as well as on other media. I wish I could also be a patreon but, most unfortunately, I couldn´t afford it! Thank you so much for your precious educational work!

our human body, and everything is so fascinating
On this day last year, there was an event about skin that has changed significantly my life.
Can you make a similar video about skincare? like hyperpigmentation, moles and scars? Why do some fade, and some stay forever.
As always awesome.
Cassandra from Doctor Who...that was my initial thought
Lol me too. was going to comment MOISTURIZE ME
Haha
Ted Ed is always very fascinating, informative and most importantly interesting! Their Animations is always the best in any educational videos.
