He was incredibly fast and durable. I remember his tremendous performance in the 1978 All-Star Game, with 30-foot buzzer beaters in both the 1st and 2nd quarters. It's great that you found all this video!
You have to remember that Randy Smith was a legitimate three sport All American in college and basketball was his number three sport. He was an incredible soccer player - his best sport - and an almost seven foot high jumper. Incredible athlete, I bet he would have been even better in football as a wide received.
@@choward5430 he definitely was faster end to end. Imma need you to check some old rose highlights. As far as pure natural speed, John wall is the fastest guy ever end to end. Young John wall was a bullet in human form. No pun intended. But with the ball in his hands, I don’t know if there was anybody more explosive off the bounce as peak Derrick rose. His top end acceleration was ridiculous. Randy definitely is on that short list of the fastest guys too tho.
@@TheIcemanthomas All of the guards you mentioned are fast. I never said Smith was the fastest. I said he's one of the fastest. I saw him play. I've seen them all play.
Seen Randy many of games at he Aud, was a gazelle on the fastbreak too. Coach Ramsey loved Randy's smarts and game control. Really enjoyed hearing Don Criqui doing the play-by-play. Historically a very underrated player and also was a very great soccer player.
Random stat, but Randy Smith had 8 different games with exactly 8 steals in his career (which is his career high), including rare back-to-back games with 8 steals. Only John Stockton (9), Alvin Robertson (10), and Michael Jordan (11) have more games with 8+ steals, since they became an official stat in 1973-74. GSW fan . Saw him in Oakland . He made a dunk going left baseline switched to his right hand went up shoulder to the back board slammed it . Oakland crowd went wild . Dude was a beast.
From the few times I saw him play, on TV, he was impressive. He didn't get alot of notoriety, this was before ESPN, but he was a handful. When he won the MVP in the All-Star game, Coach Jack Ramsey of the losing West team, said, "What was saw Randy do today I saw him do many times". Ramsey coached Randy in Buffalo. That's high praise.
The sad irony of this is that Randy Smith was highly underated player. Rest in peace Mr. Smith

I'm glad you like it!
One of my favorite players ever, and ahead of his time with his mix of skills
A superb athlete and basketball player. Not easy to find.
Wow nice footage!! Underrated and one of the best SG's of the 70s.
Great video! Us old Braves fans remember those days!!!
Buffalo had great team speed..they were an ABA team playing in the NBA...peace

Smith was one of the fastest point guards ever to play. Thanks
You misspelled Derrick Rose...
@@mr.billthrower7392 pre-injury Rose was a better player. But he was not faster than Randy Smith end to end.

A great, great player.

Thank you! Too many do not realize how outstanding Randy was. Esp in his prime. As a good an overall guard as there was in mid to late 70's.
This Version of the Braves could RUN & GUN WITH ANYONE!! ALL BEFORE THE 3Pt Shot!!
He gets such elevation on his jumpshot!
Indeed, one of the highest I've ever seen!
He and David Thompson. But Randy could handle the ball better. More of a true guard.

It's illegal how fast he blows by the defense. That's a Dope line

great player! 2nd most consecutive games in NBA history, only behind AC Green.
Could listen to Don Criqui all day
Excellent video
I didn’t know he was this good
He was outstanding.

Randy Smith was superb...was he not a track star???? Could be wrong..the decathlon ...rest in peace Randy Smith.....
I think he set the state high jump record while in high school. At Buffalo State, he was an excellent soccer player. All around athlete.

Didn’t Smith and Macado avg like 80 points a game bet the two of them?I remember them two where the only ones that’s shot the ball in buffalo!
Was it True that he played forward at 6’3🤔🏀⛹🏿♂️💯👍🏿
No, he was a guard.
@@70sfanI believe he played SF in college. As did David Thompson.
If he didn't play with super scorer mcadoo he would have averaged over 30 ppg.
Does patron have full games with commentary or just highlights with no audio or both?
Both, it depends on what game you'd look at. Braves games are full with commentary for example.
