I saved up money for a year. I quit drinking and eating out. I scrimped every last penny. As soon as 2024 bikes were released, i got searching for new 2022/23 models. I have a beautiful Santa Cruz Heckler now, but my riding gear is 10 years old. Back to saving.
Good on ya mate well done!! 👍
Lots of good advice Owen, thanks. I saved 15% by buying an "outgoing" last year's model in September when the next year's model is coming in! 👍🏻🙂
I saw what was coming a few years back when I first thought about getting one and I recently picked up my first EMTB from a LBS at 35% off. I'm very happy I waited, very happy I followed my gut.
I'm very happy with my TPC eMTB purchase!
Another great episode thanks, I took a punt on a Vitus E-Mythique warranty return to CRC. (No warranty continued to me) I’m using it as a project learning about the bafang mid motor range. Iv spent less than £1000 on the purchase and parts to fix it. So saving nearly £2000 on a E bike Iv learned from and now can repair myself.
I scrimped and saved, did loads of work overtime, for just over 4yrs to save up for a considerable deposit (£4,000) did my research and opted to buy the 2024 Orbea wild M-Team, went for that bike for the life time frame warranty and as there is a dealer locally, who sorted out a test ride. To make sure i was happy and i ordered the bike from, also the bike won best e-bike for 2023, the rest of the price i did via 4yr affordable finance. So worked out perfect. Fantastic bike that i absolutely love riding.
Does that warranty cover motor too?
@@vashon100the motor has 2 year cover
@@BigChrisD1965 ok, that's typical. Was just curious if they extended that.
Trek Rail 9.7 gen4... Original price 7999€, my price last week 5400€ (just discount from bike shop).
One of the biggest barriers to buying an emtb is thinking you need more than you actually do. For a lot of people who only want to do more gentle mtb rides or have it double up a a commuter, something like a Specalized Tero might tick all the boxes. It will feel a bit out of its depth on more extreme trails, but most people don't have such trails on their doorstep anyway. For rides in the woods it would be great 😀.
I had just over 34% off my Mondraker RRp because of an end of season sale.. which is the exact same discount a C2W scheme offered me, I was well happy.. and there's no "buy out of scheme" loop holes either so the bikes 100% mine. It's always worth waiting till the sales especially if nothing changes component wise between year/models, and always use price match between shops. You'll be suprised at the deals they'll offer 👍
I bought a second hand emtb last week. I paid 1/3 of the sticker price and it's a beast.
Well… I had the money sitting and waited till the end of the year… picked up a nice one for 3/4 normal price. Granted the bike crunch helped me this year. I’ve not seen deals that good in a while especially not at the budget end of the scale.
My employer was always a max of £1000. But recently an avid cyclist started running the department and increased it to 3k immediately
I bought a 2022 Scott e genius 910 with £1k off just b4 Christmas & had loads of extras thrown in! For less than a 920 I was going to get 6 months previous. And used Cycle to Work scheme 👍
What about buying a lower spec bike? What do you need to look for, what downgrades are "worth" it?
A bike to work scheme is usually best for most people if the cap is high enough.
Never used due to my employer capping it to 1k but recently increased it to 3k so definitely worth using in the future
Well, I was recently struck by a car biking to work, my mtb is messed up……so is my back. I may need a emtb just to pedal the thing, I have an efat bike for winter but its hub drive and sucks on trails. Either gonna make the person that hit me pay for the new emtb or if my old frame is still straight might just convert it.
consider a hardtail. if you aren't a kamakazi downhiller you may find that a hardtail is all you need . i did all my fast riding as a kid (78 now) and then again in the eighties . after that i had zero desire to ride fast or on technical /difficult trails with drops and lots of chunky stuff , so i just have no use for a fully .
That's awesome that you are still riding @ 78! I'm 72 and use to race in the mid 80's to early 90's back when at first they were totally rigid! I got my first eBike in '21..... Keepin' the Rubber-side down!!!
#1 shop around
I think EMTB brands should really look at offering frame, motor, battery, + charger "kit" for each full model they sell. Many consumers, MTB and EMTB, do not need or want to pay for an entire bike when we are just going to toss out half the bike the moment it's taken out of the box. Bars, stem, saddle, possibly wheels, all in the bin. Immediately.
Just buy a used bike, these EMTB's are in the tank when it comes to resale.
They lose about half their value as soon as you bring them home.
Around here in nor cal that is the case.
If the previous owner was out every weekend thrashing the bike through mud and rivers, I wouldn't want to be anywhere near such a bike. Used bikes are very risky. They are suitable only for the very brave.
Never buy a used E bike just like I’d recommend never buying a second hand 125cc motorcycle.
I live in Oregon, USA. We don’t have sales taxes here 😊
The schemes normally avoid paying income taxes on the bike.
"Do do" x 2. Don't get anything on finance if you can avoid it. Or only if there's no interest charged and no extra fees.
I got over 50% of a new 23 season Vitus e Sommet bike because the shop went bankrupt🤝
After Steve's visit to Taiwan it seems a better option to buy directly from there and save 1000's
Did he bring a bike back to the UK or have one sent over?
@@pedallinghope1118 he pointed out models and prices don't think he bought one as he gets press bikes locally
I've been led to believe in the UK that you 'borrow' as much as you want on the Cyclescheme as long as you don't put yourself under the minimum wage with your salary sacrifice.
My employer it’s always set a limit of 1k. Recently increased to 3k but they will look at the monthly payment and might refuse the full amount if drops income too low
The Scottish Government do an interest free loan of £3000 over four years which certainly helps in buying a more expensive bike especially as the bike I was going to buy only came in a colour I didn't like so I had!! to buy one at £1000 more than I was looking to spend but I have not regretted my decision. I also haven't told my wife so please don't tell her. Thanks.
They don't anymore mate
I did it last year with the Energy Saving Trust so It's not going ahead this year then ?@@markdabek2765
