- The Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace is a very important model for Volkswagen locally, as its volume seller & main driver for the brand. With 5+2 seats, two powertrain options and up to 220PS on tap, the Tiguan Allspace aims to be all things to all people, and does so decently.
But with lacklustre safety features, this time updated to include Lane-Keep Assist (LKA), does the Tiguan Allspace have what it takes to sit alongside the Honda CR-V, the Nissan X-Trail, the Hyundai Santa Fe, and Mazda CX-8?

I think I've found my top reviewer for local audience. Keep it up dude. This is the type of side by side review we need more of unlike a few that held a camera on one hand and trying their best to not spill a coffee on the other...jk
I got to test both cars on the same day. In my opinion the 1.4tsi has an edge over the 2.0 4motion in the following aspects.
1. The engine of 1.4 is quieter.
2. The ride in the 1.4 more comfortable due to its 18in wheels.
3. Fuel consumption of 1.4 better.
4. Enough power though the 1.4 looses to the 2.0 but when the acceleration is hard it's the 2.0 which seems to sound louder probably due to the 4 wheel drive whereas the 1.4 sounds more refined and smooth.

2.0 suspension is kindda stiff, but still good enough. Highway cruises are superb. Fuel economy is almost like the 2.0G camry if youre not driving like a fool.
U bring up the malaysia English car review to another level. Very clear pronunciation, and detail review. Big big thumbs up 👍
One suggestion, u can turn off the background music when you’re talking.

I’m in the uk and this review between the both is the best in the world hands down! Even though the specs of the elegance are different to the uk version ie no sunroof as standard

Among 7-seater SUVs on the market, only the Mazda CX-8 offers a more comprehensive safety suite. It's a demerit against the Tiguan for sure, but perhaps VPCM specified the cars this way because that's where the current segment benchmark is.

The fuel consumption for the 2L is because of the small 60l fuel tank. Some sedan cars have 70l so you won't feel the fuel being used alot.

Great review n yes for an suv costing more than 200 k without basic safety features is unforgiving n that's the deal breaker for me. Btw, your UK English is refreshing. Other local reviewers' faked US English is rather irritating. Keep it up.

It's taken us 3 days of discussion with the team to formulate an answer.
Both cars are equally good. The Peugeot a bit more dynamic, the Volkswagen a bit more frugal, both equally practical and flawed in the same ways. Neither have any advantage over the other, so it really is a matter of choice. But perhaps if your drive requires you to spend alot of time in traffic jams, the Peugeot 5008 would be a better bet with its 6AT transmission rather than the sometimes-jerky DSG. But we're really splitting hairs.
Whichever takes your fancy. Perhaps take service networks into consideration, or service quality perhaps. Maybe that can sway you in one direction or another. 🤷🏽♂️
Really like the Tiguan but lack of safety features and silly too many touch button especially steering. It’s so important while eyes on road and we don’t have to adjust volumes etc
They should’ve put ambient lights near the usb ports
I have the 2019 r line god it’s nightmare when trying to plug in a usb

Severely lacking in the safety aspects and this car has quite a bad reputation based on reliability reviews from foreign websites. If anyone wants a European 7 seater the peugeot 5008 is probably the best bet in this price range. Proven engine, solid transmission, well equipped ASA, and respectable fuel consumption too.
For most people, we dont need ACC, Traffic monitoring and other stuff. Normally people who DRIVE, and i mean, really use the mirrors, and check every spots before turning, really dont need these assistance. Infact, these drivers assist functions seems annoying. ACC on the highways are kindda useless if you are not the type to stay in the left lane.
Which one you recommend? Tiguan Allspace R-line or Hyundai Santa Fe 2.2?
If you do lots of miles, the Santa Fe. If you spend more time in town, the Tiguan AllSpace R-Line.

Given the safety features, the more versatile powertrain and the more upmarket interior (if you're willing to live with just 6 seats and no ventilation for the 1st row), our bet would be with the Mazda.
In Germany you can buy that car with all safety features. ACC blind spot, sign spoting…
