I am not a particularly skilled survivalist but I choose to live in the jungle nonetheless, I have recently changed from using a tent because sometimes I like to wander off in uneven terrain. I'm not skilled with rope but after watching your video I have adopted your technique and have been successfully using it for my nomadic lifestyle, thanks muskrat Jim, hats off to you good sir.
There are no jungles up here in Atlantic Canada, but we do have rocky coastlines, swampy and uneven ground in various areas, so hammocking is preferable in many areas that I frequent. I'm glad you found this Hennessy technique helpful. Thank you for watching, and safe travels in your jungle areas!

I can't say for certain, but you're the only person on youtube I can find that shows how to setup the Hennessy the way it was intended...even that Hennessy guy just kind of brushes over it.
Amazingly clear instructions on setting up a Hennessy Expedition Asym Zip Hammock with over-sized Rain Fly, especially because you didn't use carabiners (at least one video had a carabiner for their setup, and I don't have a carabiner)! I'll be using this instruction video on setting up my own Hennesy Hammock today.
This is the Hennessy company's recommended way to set up one of their hammocks. Other people may set them up differently (with carabiners, etc.), but could lead to damages not covered by the manufacturer's warranty. I'm glad you found this video useful, and thanks for watching!
Bought my first hammock this winter and finally had a nice day to try and hang it today. Your video is fantastic! First try took less than 5 minutes and got a perfect hang with super simple knots! This is a Hennessy Expedition Asymmetrical Zip Hammock with oversized fly. The ropes are attached to the hammock itself. Some hammocks have steel rings at their ends, so they go up differently. Wayne (Kullcraven Bushcraft) has a video showing a quick way he hangs his with rings. Depending on how yours is made, you might want to watch his video. Just bought a Woods backpacker hammock, I will have to sew on a bug net to it if I really want to use that hammock. I will probably use my midori-2 tent for bike touring, or make a tipi shelter for woods camping.

I have the same hammock . I have both rain flys because the smaller one came in the initial kit. I bought the larger one right away. I use metal rings and caribeaner style clips for the terminal connection . It provides a quick disconnect and a drip point for rain . I also made wider tree huggers out of 2 inch cargo straps with one inch cargo strap belt loops . Then used muletape to Span the distance . That gives me an extra 20 feet one each side. At 1250 lbs test single strand, doubled up should provide 2500 lbs in theory, I would 2000 in reality. In either case more than enough for the application.
I have the mule tape set up so that there is a attachment point every foot . The spring clip attaches to the mule tape along with the ring and the main line to the hammock attaches to the ring. I have a video back there somewhere that shows the set up. I'll see if I can find the link. Total cost of the set up other than time is maybe 10 dollars

Haha! I wear that artificial arm in most of my videos, but sometimes I go 'au-naturalle'. It weighs about four pounds (almost 2 kilos) so if I'm carrying a lot of gear, I'll typically leave it at home. Within YT, there's instructions for Whoopie Sling conversion for HH. There is an ideal length. Using HH straps. It lightens the HH experience also. There's also No-Hardware Knots from other FB Hammock groups that can be bought

Watching all that ropework makes me really glad I bought a Dutchware Chameleon. The beetle buckles are WAY easier to use. Whoopie slings would be easier. Even daisy chains would be easier. Is this still the setup on Hennessey Hammocks? For what those hammocks cost, I just assumed they would have a more functional setup. I was curious to see how these are supposed to go up, because a buddy of mine camps with a Hennessey setup. I usually get my hammock and tarp set up, and my backpack stowed, in the time it takes him just to hang his hammock. I was curious if that was the way Hennessey recommended, and sure enough, he does it the way you show. Looks like a solid way to hang, but I don't understand why Hennessey hasn't updated the materials they use. For $200+, I would have expected amsteel rope and probably whoopie slings or something. I'm impressed that they included Prusik loops for the tarp to simplify that part of the setup, but I'm curious if the tarp sags when you lay in the hammock.

Hey. How come you start out attaching the webbing straps to the trees at shoulder and eye-level then suddenly you take out your tarp and can walk underneath? How did you move the webbing straps high enough while the camera wasn't looking? ... Frustrated, because I follow the instructions and end up sitting in my hammock on the ground.
Sorry about that Ariel. I wanted to do a close-up of the rope weaving and my camera's tripod was short, so I had to do that part low to the ground. After I filmed that, I tied it up higher. I've since made some modifications to make setup easier, quicker and more versatile for myself. You have to distribute the weight along the length of the cord, not just have all the weight at one point in the cord. I did that once and the cord broke, and I'm not a big guy (160 pounds).
There is always a better way to do things! Ditch the Hennessy tree straps and get some daisy chain tree straps like the Kammok Roo straps or similar and 2 climbing carabiners! Then just tie a bowline knot on each end of Hennessy hammock suspension lines to attach the carabiners permanently. So much easier and works with small diameter trees to larger diameter trees and greater distances between trees. Trust me I started out with the Hennessy hammock in 2010 when they first released it and now with over 60k views and I have refined it to a simple method now. Very easy and simple now with my new methods. Hennessy needs to update there suspension system as it’s flawed and to complicated! Thanks for video though!

I prefer a tent to a hammock because a tent gives you a sheltered place to change your clothes.But a hammock is a lot more comfortable to sleep in.
