  • In this video I show you where to make the most common adjustments on a DW 9000 bass drum pedal. This includes spring tension, beater angle, footboard height, beater length, etc. If you have a double pedal you'll just need to repeat some of these twice but they'll be in corresponding places on each side. You'll have to come up with your own settings, but at least now you know which screw to turn.

I've bad a 9000 pedal for 10 years and had no idea it was THIS adjustable. It's overwhelming to be honest lol, I just adapt to whatever it's at.

Ryan - what is your take on elliptical cams vs circular? Do you really get more power from an elliptical cammed pedal? Or, conversely, do you get a significantly more even motion feel from a circular cam? Net, generally speaking, how big is the difference in throw power vs the difference in feel between the two cam shapes? Thanks

Hey, another question! :)How do you (assuming you use a 9000 pedal, have yours set? I bought one a few months ago and find it a little tricky to play consistently at faster speeds and do faster doubles. I find the rebound is great, but this in turn increases the effort needed to execute the return stroke. I've been using them pretty loose, cams not offset at all and chain almost as short (mostly on the cam) as possible. I've tried messing with the settings but still can't find that sweet spot of loose feel but without massive rebound. I hope that makes sense!? Thanks in advance, great vids, by the way. Love the ergonomics series!

ua-cam.com/video/zVvV2J1vyj8/v-deo.html I personally do not own a 9000, so I don't have any personal settings for it. I've played one and it felt pretty good where my student had it. I don't know exactly what that was though. The link is to my iron cobra settings. I bet that something similar would work for me on the 9000. No guarantee you'll like it. I always go for a long stroke and a fairly tight spring.

If you don't use the 9000 then don't respond to somebody that has a question that's kind of stupid

I have the new dw 9000 double pedal and having a hard time adjusting. Ive done everything you can in every way. I added a new Trick drive shaft wich helped but im still struggling to find my feel.
I have ordered a couple months ago a trick pro 1 v big foot double but its backordered. Man im anxious for that.
That being said, personally I think the dw 9000 is a great single pedal and would be better suited to have 2 bass drums for 2 singles more so than the double pedal imo

I have a pair of tricks on backorder as well because i was struggling to find the right, as you said, feel on the 9000s. Have you tried switching from chain drive to the belt drive with the 2 nylon straps included with the pedals? That was a big game changer for me. I'm still patiently awaiting the tricks but the straps have made the 9000s a lot more enjoyable to use.

hey man. dealing with the same issue. the way you have to adjust the beater by moving the spring makes zero sense. so if i want the beater to be back as much as possible its going to make the spring tension way higher when you go to strike.

With spring tension- the longer nut on the bottom doesn’t seem to turn either way so either I’m misunderstanding the video or I’m just dumb

Hmmm… on some pedals the bit has a locking feature where you must pull down on the spring/screw/nut assembly as a whole to actually allow it to turn. My iron cobra there’s a triangular profile to the top of the nut that fits into a corresponding indentation in the pedal. If you don’t pull it out it will not turn. DW may have something similar. Also check for secondary locking nuts that may be inhibiting the movement.

@@RyanAlexanderBloom ahah! Yep you have to push down on the spring to be able to spin the long nut. Jeeeezzz nowhere on the internet shows how to do that on this pedal

how do u convert to strap drive?

    • @RyanAlexanderBloom
      @RyanAlexanderBloom  3 роки тому

I’ve never tried to convert to strap drive, so I have no idea, really. I assume you buy a strap and just bolt it on where the chain goes. But I’m just guessing.

Steve Douglas it's ok if it didn't help you. It's not necessarily for everyone, but many people are at a low enough level of understanding where this amount of information was extremely useful to them. If you already know where all these adjustments are located then move on to a video that goes more in depth. That is your prerogative. I applaud your prior knowledge. Some people actually need things pointed out at this very basic level. It helps those who are not as proficient as you.

That is why I didn't care for your video...it is one thing to know where a point of adjustment is and another to know the proper way and reasons to make an adjustment.

Steve Douglas so much of it is personal taste. I could tell you settings all day and show you how to make them, and all you and the rest of the Internet would do is tell me how wrong those were because of x, y, or z reason that makes no sense. It's happened hundreds of times before on my other videos. I still think just laying out some basic info is more worthwhile than you might imagine.
