One thing that always was frustrating to me was I would struggle to get the truck in (Costco store #1 on 4th Ave South in Seattle is a mess) and then when you pull it out, it comes out so easily. If we could only figure out how to set it up so it goes in and easy as it comes out. 🤪

      Yes! All HOS rules apply to a CMV, whether you are pulling a trailer or not. The rules about Personal Conveyance have become unclear. Might also depend on what your specific company has as a policy. We used to use PC at Werner, but they have now completely banned it for their drivers. At Crete we have not used it, so that we don't end up in any kind of issues.

    Going to swift for my cdl, I would do it at a school, but I would only be able to do it on the weekends… Which would drag the process out by alot and overall make things more difficult. Vs dedicating the 3-4 weeks with swift to obtain my cdl, then having a job right after, I’m willing to endure the lower pay for the first year as I’m looking towards the future and not so much the short term. Great content, thanks. Btw if anyone has some valuable information to point me in another direction please let me know, thanks.

    • @TheJoyofTrucking
      @TheJoyofTrucking  Місяць тому +1

      Congratulations on your decision to becoming a professional driver! Sounds like you have thought things through! Kevin also preferred the speed of a one month CDL school, so he could get out on the road and start making money. Our advice would be to pay for the course yourself so that you have more options and freedom. At Werner, Kevin was actually reimbursed for his tuition cost at an unrelated school, with a monthly payment of over $200. You could also look into grants or VA assistance if you qualify for any of that. We preferred Werner when Kevin started, as they paid a bit better at the time and allowed a passenger immediately. That might have changed. You are correct, the first year won't pay so well and will have a very steep learning curve. We hope our videos will help flatten that curve for you! And after you get some experience under your belt you will have many options and the opportunity for a great career! Best of luck! Let us know how it goes!
