- What makes a great modern high-gain amp? This is what was contemplated when Bad Cat set about redesigning the Lynx. Modern high gain players need tight low frequency that punches and reacts quickly to staccato palm muting. They need high frequencies that cut without being harsh or grainy. They need effective midrange shaping with complexity and articulation. They need crushing gain without the noise. The result is the new Bad Cat Lynx.
The new Lynx has two distinct channels. Channel 1 is a classic high gain that covers gritty and crunchy cleans to 80’s thrash metal tones. Channel 2 is an ultra-modern high-gain voice that has a massive sonic footprint yet remains articulate and revealing. Further, it has been re-engineered with a Lo/Hi switch to access a new type of gain stage architecture not yet found in any other amplifier from Bad Cat. The Lynx is loaded with percussive, heavy, tight saturation and incredible string-to-string note articulation. Lastly, a highly effective, uniquely designed noise gate (patent applied for) is included, along with a buffered active effects loop to run all of your pedals transparently.

Hey Nate! I know it's been a while, but question on cleans if you would. That first bit with the PRS SS, was that amp cleans or did you have to turn your guutar volume down to acheive that sound? Much obliged!
Fantastic question! My recollection is that I did have my volume on my guitar wide-open and that I was able to get a “cleanish” sound out of the amp. 👍

The high low switch makes so much of a difference that you almost don't even need the range in the gain knob. Phenomenal amp.

Love this demo! By far the best one out there. Ola's is great, but I did want to hear the clean and mid gain stuff that the Lynx is capable of. Ended up getting a Lynx head and 2x12 Cab from a local store here in Colorado. The thing is awesome. This video was a huge factor in my decision.
Huh? He didn't touch the 3 band EQ once. That's where this thing starts to really shine.
I've always been interested in the bad Cat Lynx being a huge Porcupine Tree fan. A very versatile amp with an incredible sound.
Just saw Animals as Leaders here in Texas Tosin had the badcats and he sounded awesome - great video and demo well done gents - great playing also - these BadCat amps are Badass

Are you running this into the speaker of the combo beneath it or into something else offscreen?
Great demo - I have a custom hand wired Lynx 50 Watt that Badcat retired, and it sounds absolutely magical. I am little disappointed that the company decided to stop the customizing, hand wiring and made to order amps. Nothing sounds like that Lynx 50 Watt Custom. When I bought it, I actually went to Badcat in Costa Mesa and got to meet all the people hand wiring. They were an awesome bunch, and they made my amp to order with me in mind, which was super special.
Thank you Jay! Dude, sounds like you got an awesome amp, hang on to that!!! Regarding Badcat- I don’t think the hand wired and custom builds are “done” forever. John & Peter have lots of vision, plans, and hopes for the company. These new amps scratch a deep itch in the marketplace. It’s a boutique tube amp that is just a little more $ than a DRRI and the like. I’m excited to see where the company goes from here.

Nice review! Do the trails on delay and reverb [in the effects loop] work well with the gate?
Hey there - I’ve got one of these, and yes, it works very well. The loop is also probably the most transparent one I’ve come across among every amp I’ve ever owned or played.

Thanks for commenting I do not believe that’s cab emulated on the line out- we were just using it for a little sparkle to add to the overall mix of the guitar/amp tone here and there. 👍

It sounds big but I see it getting lost in a two guitar band with it’s lack of mids. It’s a lot of bass and top end. Maybe a good amp if you’re the only guitar player. If it has a loop, an EQ in the loop might save the day. Ironically the only Bad Cat I’ve played (and owned) that had what I consider a great rock distortion was the Chinese Cougar 50 head..lol Every American one I tried was too I’ll defined and ratty. Would like to check these new ones out in person and put them through their paces though.
I hear what you’re saying and I definitely appreciate the comment. That said I think a lot of it depends on what type of guitars are playing together, pick ups, EQ, etc. etc. etc. There’s a lot of guitarists that don’t pay attention to that sort of thing and I appreciate you bringing it up!👍
I have the previous version, the Lynx x. It definitely does not get lost in the mix with 2 guitarists. It pairs extremely well against my Bogner Helios. Very amazing rock and roll machine with gorgeous cleans! The Bad Cat 4x12 cab takes it to another level. I am looking forward to this new version as well!

@@asianaxeman JJ’s are in the Lynx x. Honestly, they are very different amps. I can plug in to either one and have a huge smile on my face. The super high gain and cleans on the Lynx are so sweet. I use the Helios for everything else.
