Ah the yellow lab, one of my favorite cichlids^^ I have no experience with keeping cichlids but I enjoy researching them, and from what I’ve read they’re probably the best lake Malawi cichlid species to start out with
Another Fired Up video of info. Have about 8 yellow labs in my mixed Malawi 90 gallon. The way they interact each other and the rest inhabits, is really entertaining.
I always wanted to keep a yellow lab but I don't have an mbuna only tank. I have a peacock/Hap tank. I am worried about the diet difference between the mbuna and the Hap/peacock. Any tips on target feeding?
I have kept yellow labs with peas and haps for years and fed them them standard Malwai foods along with Krill and Brine Shrimp. Never had bloat or health issues, full of colour and breed like mad. From what I have read they don't really need a heavy veg diet as they graze on insects as well as algae in the wild. Sorry Troy, that's my understanding and it works just fine
My favorite food to give Yellow Labs can be found here:
Spirulina Flakes (Vegetable Based) - geni.us/ByXSoL

I used to keep yellow labs (Labidochromis) together with rusty cichlids (Iodotropheus), both rather peaceful for mbunas and so fun to keep!
Agreed!
👍👍👍
In my all Mbuna tank, Yellow Labs are the tank boss together with his 2nd Lieutenants 😂 (Red Zebra and Demasoni are the tank mates) 😅

I would lean heavier towards spirulina/veggies. Otherwise, it’s pretty tough to do since they’re all in a frenzy usually
Labidochromis Caeruleus are insectivores in nature. Some Melanochromis species are even predatory not all mbuna are obligate herbivores.
@@GC_Aquariums I didn’t say they were herbivores. But they absolutely need less protein than other cichlids
@@CichlidBrosI agree with your info I just wanted to point that out.
