Great video as always guys. First and foremost thank you for your educational videos you guys post. Without alot of the videos I've watched I'd probably would never have brought my first tank let alone the 2 that followed shortly after. My wife and I have just started over the last 2 months and have only just came across this video sadly. We started our first tank (6foot) with a tiger oscar and an albino oscar, 2 weeks later we brought our first green terror along with what ended up being a breeding pair of Jack Dempseys. Not even 12 days after the 2 jacks were paired we had quite a few fry. I've since had to separate the 2 jacks as the male was becoming very aggressive to anything and everything in the tank. We now have a breeding pair of convicts in the 6ft tank along with their first lot of fry, with the 2 Oscars, 1 Jack and 2 pleckos Tank 2 is only a 70litre tank that we run for the Jack Dempsey fry that are at an avg size of 5cm or from memory 2inchs. The 3rd tank we have a couple of catfish type looking things and the male Jack.
I have an 8” GT in a 75 gallon and I keep it with a dozen congo tetras, and a royal pleco, green phantom, and super red bristlenose. My GT will go after the Congo’s a little bit, but they faster than him and there’s enough that he can’t single one out. He’s very territorial against my hand when I put it up to the tank and I think if I added another Cichlid he would probably kill it, but he doesn’t seem to mind the Congo’s too much.
@@nthompson937 just those fish I just commented. I run an aquaclear 110 and a sponge filter and have pothos cuttings growing out of the top and then I just added a fluval 407 and I do weekly 50ish% water changes
Great Video guys….Actually while I was keeping Africans at the time I remember seeing one of the earlier videos of Joker and I decided to pick up a baby GT and house him in my 50 with my Severums, Geos, and EBA when they were all fairly small…All did Great and I ended up turning the African tank into a mixed South/ Central tank which was a Huge Mistake and one that I still to this day regret. He went into my bigger tank along with a JD, Vieja Argentea, Firemouth, Red Devil, Salvini, & Convict. All we’re about 4-5 inches or so and honestly it looked to be fine for about 3 weeks and than it was like a switch went off in the Argentea, while one of the most beautiful fish he just became crazy during feedings and would do a few random chases but no actual fighting, and on the day before I was very seriously considering re homing him he just went nuts and killed my GT in about 2 hour time period while I wasn’t home. I walked into my GT barely alive, all the other fish crammed in a corner and the Argentea still going at him and trying to finish him off. So mad at myself for that to this day and ended up putting my GT down that night because of the damage the Argentea caused and than re homed the rest of the fish in that tank a few days later and went in a much more peaceful direction. Point of the story, be careful on what you hear sometimes about certain fish…GT’s sometimes get a bad rap and mine would have been fine with my SA’s long term I believe if I didn’t make such a poor judgement call. Still miss that fish to this Day 🙏🏻😔
I have a green terror he lives on his own the reason he lives on his own he has killed or badly beaten up my other fish firemouth sevrums blue acara He is downright nasty but I love him He will attack my hand and the syphon tube when doing water changes he also likes to move aquarium decor if he can
Silver Dollars work great with most American Cichlids, throughout the years, my now over 15 y/o school of Red hooks have shared space with a Green Terror, Severums (still do with my old lady green severum which is also over 15 y/o), Firemouths, Convicts, Angelfish,,, and even with Frontosas. Cichlids basically just don't care about them, and if for whatever reason they chase one of them they actually defend themselves by chasing back, at which point the cichlids leave them alone. Just bear in mind you would need a very large tank for them to work as they have to be kept in schools.
Just curious, when did you oust Joker from your tank? My gold saum is now about the size of a full grown Electric Blue Acara. He has always been timid, but I have noticed my Turquoise Severum is showing his stripes all the time and seems a little intimidated. The GT is also starting to spar (just back and forth gill flaring) with the Nicaraguan cichlids. He seems like he is trying to become a tank boss. He hasn’t hurt anyone yet, but I am watching him. I already have a Carpintis that has moved from my 180 into his own 75 after he started biting other fish. I’m wondering if that may happen with this Gold Saum. Was Joker hurting other fish in the tank or just stressing them out?
Question for you guys: I have an electric blue acara by itself in my 40 breeder. Yesterday it dug a hole to the bottom of the tank presumably because it is ready to breed. I'm still unsure if it is a male or female because it is still very young. Would you suggest I let it be by itself, get a small group and put them in and hope for a pair, or put one in at a time and see if any are compatible?
Amazing video! I’m hoping to make a 125gal with 1 GT 1 JD 1 Oscar 2 FM 1 chocolate bushynose pleco Is this a good enough stock? Any other recommendations?
I tried most of these recommended fish and my terror beat every one of them. I wound up getting a 150 and got him in with a big oscar. He tried the oscar but got put in his place real quick. Now there great together.
Great video and explanations! I would like to ask for some help. Can I set up a 150 liter aquarium with 3 green terror? Sump full of media and other filters.Tks so much!!!
A large tank and enough decor for line of sight breaks will increase chances of success. But with any aggressive cichlids, should have a backup plan if it doesn’t work out
I want to add a Male GT to my 150 gallon tank that has a 10" Purple Rose Queen, male 5" Electric Blue Texas, 3" female Green Texas. Will that work? I have a 4" female GT & 2" synspillum in a 45 gallon as well.
By any chance can you make a video talking about tank mates for green terror and a jack Dempsey I have found certain things working with them and certain things aren’t and i watched both of your videos for tank mates for each of them and I have kept in mind some of the common ones just don’t know if there is any other suggestion you can do I currently have 2 GT breeding pair 2 jack Dempseys 1 convict 1 Red Devil 1 Electric Blue Texas 6 full size danios In a 125 Gallon tank
Yeah they’re in the same family so they have similar body shapes I think the aggression would be too much. I had a blue acara with my gt when they were smaller and the aggression was too much.
I have an electric blue acara with a green terror, a jack dempsey, a fire mouth, a pearl scale, and have no issues. Hes a lot smaller and has no problems. The green terror and pearl scale hate the jack dempsey and hes basically the only one that has a problem. My cichlids were all bought at the same time. The green terror and pearl scale had growth spurts and got a lot bigger really fast.
Can you do multiple green terror in 1 tank? Im starting up a 200-gallon tank. I was gonna do electric blue acard geos and severums , but my local fish store has some beautiful false green terror
Hey, thanks for the great video of suggestions. Lots of good considerations here... I have a question about the GT aggression. Currently, I have a 125GL with 2 110 Tidal Filters. The stock is 7 Geo Red Heads 1 EB Acara 1 Severum Red-Spot Angelfish Pearl Gourami Firemouth Cihclid and the Green Terror. I was considering rehoming the angelfish and Pearl Gourami, if any signs of aggression start to form. The Green Terror will occasionally chase the Geos, but often will back off once he "claimed" the swimming space. Will this be a problem when he gets bigger, or is this what people refer to as a "docile" green terror? so far there is no damage on any of the fish. Thanks for your time and any input.
Hey there, thanks for watching. It sounds like a relatively peaceful GT. Some of those fish like you mentioned (angel, gourami) may need a different tank. But if your GT stays docile and no damage on the other fish, you may have it all work out. Good luck!
I looked back at a pic of when I bought my green terror/ gold saum and I’ve had him for 7 months now and he’s as big as he was when I bought him and I don’t get it. I kept him in a 55 and he’s still only maybe an 1”. And the other fish around him have grown but he has not. Unless he’s a female.
