This looks sick on our 2021 Tacoma TRD Sport. I will say though, I really didn't think it was going to fit, after a small strap adjustment its perfect. Couldn't be happier. ❤❤

I just took delivery of the T2 half stack. The emphatic instructions to line the tops of the inside foam blocks with the top of the tailgate rail comes with a problem: There is no fold, seam, cut in the foam or gusset built into the pad to allow it to be folded at that point. It has to be forcefully bent. I'm thinking of putting something under the inside flap at the blocks to better align the angle of the pad with the down tubes. I can see by some of the comments citing problems at the downtube that I'm not the only one having difficulty with this aspect of the design.

This might be a stupid question but, should you take this off when not using it? I can only imagine that leaving it exposed to rain, snow, sun, etc would wear it down pretty fast. TIA.

I have this on a Silverado. What a pain it is to try to thread the straps UP thru a minuscule area between the tailgate and the frame. The design should have the straps going down thru, following gravity, from the inside. Does anyone solicit design feedback from customer focus groups anymore? It can’t just be my problem. A serious PITA.

The problem with that is the excess length would then be on the outside flapping in the wind. That flapping can then cause damage to the gel coat and paint of your truck or bike.

Both of yall do realize your downtubes are supposed to go in between the pads into the gaps... Not rest on top of or against the padding, right?
The gaps are what hold the bikes in position.

@@idrathergetaidsthangetwoke9145 when the pad is installed, the inner block pads are nearly vertical, therefore pointless. If you shift the whole thing such that the inner pads have some angle to them, and actually snuggle your down tube, the Velcro can't reach very well, if at all. It's a very poor design, but I've split the difference where the Velcro is maxed out, and the inner pads might grab for an inch or two. Also, on thin hybrid bikes it doesn't hold well. Bike loves to tip. Not the end of the world though. It will get me by for a while.

@@Steve-og3cr I'll get back to you when the new bike arrives with a slightly less aggressive downtube angle than my current. I just don't see the problem. You're having though...
      Food for thought nonetheless.
Also... The straps do the main work for You don't they? The pads are, again, just to cradle and hug the bike. Even when clinched down, your bikes are not nestled in the slightest between the pads?
You're using a modern MTB with a wide frame or something else?

This video doesn't show the most important angle and details of how the padding protects the down tubes....does it? Or does it sit down too low on the back side.

  • @FlowFinderUSA

You can see from the video that the bottom straps are going to have "rubbing" issues with the tailgate. Is there any way to prevent this problem? This will cause the paint to scuff as the bikes and truck get bounced around.
Edit: Does the additional 'velcro' strip on the right side facing inside part of the pad (not being used by the center piece) scuff the tailgate also?

I just received the T2 pad, this is my very first experience with tailgate pads. There’s a sticker on here that says protect your downtube, yet when I watch the video, it says nothing about protecting the downtube. Have two carbon bikes, and two aluminum bikes, and now I’m concerned that I may have, the wrong transport method, especially if it’s going to damage my bike!

    • @RaceFaceMTBtv
      @RaceFaceMTBtv  8 місяців тому

In most cases, the frame manufactures will supply their bikes with an attachable downtube protector or "Shuttle Guard" to prevent any scuffing / cosmetic damage to your bike.
In almost all cases you should be fine to run your bikes on the tailgate pad without a downtube protector, but we recommend you chat with your local bike shop or wherever you got the bike from and see what they recommend. Hope this helps.

Min didn’t, you “padding” to keep them from moving side to side didn’t do anything, the down tube didn’t even go in the grooves. Long story short, there was so much wrong form mountains to protecting, I can’t image what you used to lay out the design, but it want back to Amazon the very next day.

Well used mine for one day it it chewed right through my ride wrap, my paint and right down to the bare aluminium on my brand new Capra… not impressed, not nearly enough padding on the top edge and it doesn’t stay in place. No matter how tight you put the traps the pad always slides down on the box side leaving the bike separators to be useless.

Ya I've got to chime in on the lack of downtube padding here. I think I may have installed slightly incorrectly, but the corner of the tailgate was not fully padded, and I got a big dent in my chromoly dirt jumper after going down a bumpy road with this pad. Pretty pissed off to be honest. It's a $650 frame I'll have to replace. I think if I'd tightened down some of the straps a bit differently it may have protected a bit better, but it's not obvious until I watched this video. Glad it wasn't my carbon frame, but long story short I do not trust this thing, and after reading some of the other comments it seems I'm not alone. I Do not recommend buying this. If you do have one, make sure that downtube is resting on padding!!!
