I would love to see your take on this kind of a cake because your cakes are always so immaculate and never fail to impress! I feel like you could easily do this way better
At first I thought, how unfair to expect a bakery, rated 1 star, to pull off a topsy turvy cake! As the video went on, I was stunned at the outcome for each order. The ONLY redeeming quality was the dollar store flowers. WOW! You really held it together with your reaction. I would have been dead on the floor or screaming at the top of my lungs!
Just a quick question. What is the point of inedible cake and fake flowers? It it is not edible, it is not a cake. And how can one be sure that the inedible parts are well-cleaned to be exposed to the edible parts?
I kinda get the inedible cake part. It'd be more difficult and expensive to make it out of something edible. But the fake flowers I definitely agree with. It was hammered into my brain to not decorate food with something you cannot eat. Why are we using plastic flowers and not edible or sugar ones???
16:11 i think those are meant to be cat tails? They're like a fluffy type of tall grass/plant. I don't know if they have an actual name, that's just what we've always called them. They are cute in nature but definitely not an appetizing cake decoration
Agreed! Totally not appetizing. What did it for me were the tiny pieces of the cat tails (the seeds? IDK) were breaking off and were stuck to the icing
I think you were more than fair with the reviews. Very expensive disappointment if it was your wedding day. As for Archie… what a sweetheart!!! He wins the 5 stars today ❤⭐
That first cake was absolutely gorgeous. HOWEVER, only the first layer is cake??????? The rest is Styrofoam?????? And they had the nerve to charge over $650 for 1 small square cake???? That's ridiculous. I would be livid. Such a shame because I think it's such a beautiful cake.
This has been addressed in other comments, however, it is important to note: foam cakes are just as expensive as actual cake. An actual cake doesn't cost that much to make. It's the decoration that costs so much.
I was having such a bad day at the end of a very bad week. Sat down to eat lunch, opened UA-cam to see Laurie and Kevin, and I immediately felt better. Thank you. ❤
Thanks for your videos! I'll never regret ordering a plain red velvet with no extra decoration for my wedding from my favorite bakery. Their work is worth the extra charges but if it goes out of a budget, choose flavor over looks.
It’s based on price and what you order. It’s common for bigger cakes to not be all cake. You don’t need that big of a cake ti serve 30 people, which is how many she said it would feed. But you want the statement piece at your wedding/celebration so it needs to be “big”.
Here's my amateur-baker's POV. I would keep the chocolate with raspberry combination for the top cake and make classic vanilla and lemon for the bottom. Only the middle part will be faux cake because I'm not a pro. But a working bakery should be able to make the whole thing edible so no excuses there. Both of the prices were way high given the amount of cake you received. The dollar store flowers I agree with. They don't have to be super fancy, they just have to look good. And yes, because you gave an inage, they should have used a wooden board or just cover it with wood imitating contact paper. But thats just my amateur opinion.
Here's my viewer's POV: Throw both of these disgusting piles of plastic into the trash. Apologize to your audience for your lacking common sense in paying for any such nonsense. Resolve to return to some level of professionalism in the creation of lovely bakery items.
My mom did a Topsy tervy cake for my Nieces wedding and a side sheet cake for the second flavor. Her brother started his toast by welcoming everyone to the "birthday party" my Niece had the cake decorated in green and blue with stripes and poka dots. My brother made the top piece with Palmer clay. My mom must have made 2-3 mock up cakes to practice before doing the real one. She had done many cakes before having owned a cake bakery that specialized in wedding cakes for 5 years. But she didn't have much experience with fondant. She did use marshmallow fondant though, much easier and tastyier.😮
The thing that gets me about both is the colour. Both are quite a bright pink, not that soft dusty pink. The first one was at least pretty, but both totally failed the colour.
What is the point of purchasing a topsy turvy cake, if all the cake u're getting is a single tier that anyone can do. And HOW is it legal to charge $800+ for 2 slabs of styrofoam
You are amazingly generous. For me, both failed in making a topsy turvy. Just ONE of the three building blocks was actual cake, and of course the bakerys both picked one of the straigth blocks. So those were NOT topsy turvy cakes but normal cakes with fancy decoration. Second, the expensive cake didnt even have enough servings!!!!
You randomly came into my recommendations with this video and I'm half way through and already subscribing! The way you talk and critique is so good and genuine, and you're absolutely adorable 🥺
I LOVE that you are helping these companies grow. If that first cake is a cake that they have never done, or never charged that price for, you are helping them improve their skill and business. I just LOVE THAT
They're not growing if they're not learning how to do cakes and provide good customer service. They need the bad reviews to learn what to work on and improve. The second business, at least, is not doing that.
They literally only did one cake layer and the rest were Styrofoam BOXES covered in sugar. Over 800 dollars for that tiny top layer of cake? These businesses don't deserve to grow until they stop scamming people. One of the cake shopes called their customer a liar.
It's important to keep in mind that these are WEDDING CAKES, specifically for an entire WEDDING to share😭 No excuses for filling space with inedible materials. I would be so mad if my wedding left guests eating styrofoam.
They ordered a sheet cake for the wedding reception. The wedding cake was likely not large enough to accommodate all of the invited guests. Supplemental sheet cakes are highly common at wedding receptions so that all guests get a reasonably sized piece of cake. Some wedding couples may also choose not to hand out wedding cake pieces to anyone who is not immediate family… again the reason for one or more sheet cakes.
Skunks are so cute and funny 🦨 they look like furry RC cars…and are adorable when they have babies with them. They roam around in a group in unison it’s so funny.
I LOVE these videos! I wasn't able to afford a wedding cake (my sister made a beautiful cheesecake which was amazing) so I live vicariously through this!
Watching this video reminds me that there are fools out there everyday-both customers and so-called bakers. What a ridiculous price for a piece of cake-plus plastic and fake flowers. The standards and common sense in much of this country have sure gone to hell.
Ha! when you said what you both paid for the first cake I thought wait is that $666 . then I thought I just read too many Good Omens fanfics. and then you put the $666 price on the screen and it was just way too funny to me. So, thanks for that. The inspo cake was beautiful.
Ma’am, I cannot. That cake was a hot mess and 2.5 is a lie don’t be so nice. This is a rip off and would’ve destroyed somebody’s wedding. You would never do this to anyone under any circumstances and be OK with it I would love to see you, judge based on what you would do, because then this would’ve got the 1 that it deserved.

Artistically both seemed really heavy handed in comparison to the inspiration cake. It's hard to pick between them but I'd lean more toward the more expensive but more palatable one.
You are so kind when rating these bakeries. I think the important thing to remember with rating some of these bakeries is to remember that people are probably choosing these bakeries because of financial constraints so the cake they purchase is a focal point to the occasion. These bakeries deserve their one star rating and I think that you were far too kind with giving them the basic they got the shape and idea right.... It would have been better if it was all cake but smaller sizes. The ratio between the image and the actual cakes was well and truly off, along with the flowers, colouring and added 'touches'. That grass/feather thing is disgusting in appearance and should not be anywhere near food. Taking into consideration ratio, execution, and edibility, then I would say that they are ratings of 1 if not -3. Definitely not worth the money. It would have been interesting to see this with 1-5 star bakeries to see the difference, also put in a max price for each bakery.... Another video perhaps?

I would love to see your take on this kind of a cake because your cakes are always so immaculate and never fail to impress! I feel like you could easily do this way better
At first I thought, how unfair to expect a bakery, rated 1 star, to pull off a topsy turvy cake! As the video went on, I was stunned at the outcome for each order. The ONLY redeeming quality was the dollar store flowers. WOW! You really held it together with your reaction. I would have been dead on the floor or screaming at the top of my lungs!
18:44 Laurie swinging the cakes around while Kevin's standing at the side filming Archie is such a mood
Just a quick question. What is the point of inedible cake and fake flowers? It it is not edible, it is not a cake. And how can one be sure that the inedible parts are well-cleaned to be exposed to the edible parts?
don’t things need to be like food grade to be touching food?
Dollar store flowers in cake is a solid no from me, my local dollar store is disgusting!
My thoughts exactly.... why are these bakeries still in business? And why are customers not asking questions????
I kinda get the inedible cake part. It'd be more difficult and expensive to make it out of something edible.
But the fake flowers I definitely agree with. It was hammered into my brain to not decorate food with something you cannot eat. Why are we using plastic flowers and not edible or sugar ones???
The fake cake part allows for a large and impressive cake for a wedding with 30 people. It would be a waste of cake if all 3 tiers were cake.
I’m floored that each only gave 1 tier of actual cake for that price…
It's a small gathering cake with huge inedible cakelike decorations.
It’s called Pampas Grass
I made my sister an island cake with cattail... it was milk chocolate that I put on crinkled foil to get the mini indents. It CAN be yummy. 😢
9:50 wait 666$ and only ONE LAYER IS CAKE?!? 🤦🏻♀️
Exactly my thought🤯
I think you were more than fair with the reviews. Very expensive disappointment if it was your wedding day.
As for Archie… what a sweetheart!!! He wins the 5 stars today ❤⭐
your husband is a sweetie, and your dog is adorable, and you get to eat cakes all day, oh what a great life you live
You gave them to much credit ! you are kind!
Wayyy too much credit. I would never have paid even $666 for the bigger square being cake. $849 for that tiny like 6x6 square cake? RIDICULOUS
@@tatersoupmy sentiments exactly!!!! 👍🏻🙂

He's finally earning his way from all that dog food we've had to throw out! and the toys. so so many toys.
@@TheIcingArtist Where is part one of this video?
Agreed!! He's so darn cute ❤❤
@@TheIcingArtist 😂😂😂
Agree!!
The colors of the first cake screamed Valentine's Day to me.
I was having such a bad day at the end of a very bad week. Sat down to eat lunch, opened UA-cam to see Laurie and Kevin, and I immediately felt better. Thank you. ❤
Hope the rest of your week picks up!! Have a great weekend
@@TheIcingArtist I hope you have a great weekend as well! ❤️
Thanks for your videos! I'll never regret ordering a plain red velvet with no extra decoration for my wedding from my favorite bakery. Their work is worth the extra charges but if it goes out of a budget, choose flavor over looks.
So now I'm curious if a 5 star bakery would give you three cake instead of two blocks of styrofoam.
It’s based on price and what you order.
It’s common for bigger cakes to not be all cake. You don’t need that big of a cake ti serve 30 people, which is how many she said it would feed. But you want the statement piece at your wedding/celebration so it needs to be “big”.
@@midniteillusion3 that tiny piece of cake isn't feeding 30 people unless you take apart the layers and give everyone ant sized bites.
You guys are so fun to watch. I hope you’re having as much fun in real life together as you seem to be in your videos. 😁
I would love to see how you tackle remaking the cakes you get from these bakeries, just to compare technique and how you'd apply color, etc!
Well, one thing for sure, they deserve the 1-star rating.
When I first saw that grass thing, I thought that some little critter was running around without a tail.
Laurie: They had complaints about the flavor, so let's give it a try... (tastes, and looks like she either wants to throw up or spit it out, lol)
😆🤣
Always wished your videos are longer, you’re so entertaining and funny 🤍🤍
We've been leaving a lot more in this year and filming more of behind the scenes and I've been loving it!!
@@TheIcingArtistyes ,i love the candidness and Chaos mixed with well produced and professional takes.
You should try recreating the image you sent to 1-star bakeries! You would do soooo much better! Oh… and all cake
Kevin does a great job picking up the cakes so calm and collected love it ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤✨🌹🌹🌹✨✨🌹🌹🌹✨🌹💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
My favorite part of your videos is how adorable You & Kevin are together! Thanks for being awesome af! 😎
I've never wanted to pet a dog more. Archy is adorable!
Aww Archie with a napkin round his neck. Cuteness overload.❤
These cakes are HORRENDOUS and those bakeries should be ASHAMED of themselves!
Archie is literally a real life teddy bear.
“Don’t forget to record”
Kevin: **forgets to record**
Completely off topic
I just adore how sweet you are to Archie! He's clearly well loved and loves you back! 🩷
I LOVE that you are helping these companies grow. If that first cake is a cake that they have never done, or never charged that price for, you are helping them improve their skill and business. I just LOVE THAT
That's so arrogant
not for the $800 one. $200 at best
For this one, I would love to see how the businesses approach some of their issues! Price is nuts for 1 edible cake
I'm glad that laurie is going into why they are 1 star bakeries.
Skunks are so cute and funny 🦨 they look like furry RC cars…and are adorable when they have babies with them. They roam around in a group in unison it’s so funny.
5:04 I had a brainfart and slapped my thighs to get Archie out of the car 😂🤣
17:04 the cake has gunshot wounds
Archie is EVERYTHING!!!!!!! He needs his own reality show!
I actually loved the fondant texture - it looked like leather!
Yeah, if that's what they were supposed to be going for lol?
Archie is so cute, he looks unreal 😭🫶🏻
He's our little cuddle lamb
I’d love to see a picture of him as a baby!
Archie looks like he’s made of icing himself! Such a beautiful puppy 🥰
The cake in the lemon raspberry one looks like a box cake mix.
I mean this in only the best way: Archie is the cutest bag of bones ever. I love when he wakes up with eyes half open and READY. 🖤💕
I LOVE these videos! I wasn't able to afford a wedding cake (my sister made a beautiful cheesecake which was amazing) so I live vicariously through this!
That honestly sounds amazing lol! This might sound weird coming for a cake decorator... but I think wedding cakes can be overrated!
Those prices are insane for the amount of cake given
Watching your channel makes me feel like I'm underpricing my cakes lol
Watching this video reminds me that there are fools out there everyday-both customers and so-called bakers. What a ridiculous price for a piece of cake-plus plastic and fake flowers. The standards and common sense in much of this country have sure gone to hell.
I came here just to see Archie, what a sweetie. He's so calm, not zooming around like most Doodles do.
You are way too nice Laurie 😂 17:43
I think you do a really good job with your sponsorship ads! Genuine, honest and not to corny. Impressively smooth transition as well.
I definitely think that laurie needs to start rating on a 1 to 10 system
I love you being willing to laugh at yourself.
Ha! when you said what you both paid for the first cake I thought wait is that $666 . then I thought I just read too many Good Omens fanfics. and then you put the $666 price on the screen and it was just way too funny to me.
Hell yes, was just scrolling for a video so this is perfect timing for some Laurie, Kevin, and Archie! ❤️
i feel bad for not comming on here more to support i have had a lot going on to . I want you to know i come looking for you when I need a friend. lol when my day is just the worst i come on and watch you and kevin and Archie and it allways brings a smile .
Those prices for styrofoam cakes is WILD I would of thrown that shit at them and got my money back. That’s sickening and down right theft.
yup, those are dollar store flowers.
the edges of the fondant are also loose, not nice & tight.
Artistically both seemed really heavy handed in comparison to the inspiration cake. It's hard to pick between them but I'd lean more toward the more expensive but more palatable one.
I don’t know how you ended up on my home page but I am now subscribed after a 4-5 video rabbit hole at 11pm. I love your content.
Honestly the cake they made in the first one is much better than the original photo imo I’m usually a pale color kinda person too I’m surprised
The 2nd cake reminds me of a crime scene
Laurie, you make this cake and show us how its done!! 🎂 ❤😊
The first cake is beautiful!
I don’t think either got the color right. The brace was a dusty rose not hot pink!
LOVE the Queen t-shirt.
Thanks!! It's from Torrid! LOVE them!
