Beautiful discussion! I learned a lot. I didn't know it was a reference to idols. I have been meditating on the dignity of everyone because of the image of God. It all makes sense.
In light of your conversation, I find this verse very interesting: "They made a calf in Horeb, And worshiped a molten image. Thus they exchanged THEIR GLORY for the image of an ox that eats grass." (Psalm 106:19,20)
@@lilyduck4538 I don't know because I just saw it last week and I haven't investigated or pondered over it long enough. But off the top of my head I'm thinking that idol worship degrades man more than we know and that man has some sort of "glory" that I don't understand yet.
@sharonlouise9759 I would say that we definitely have 'glory' though I think in a personal sense we understand it better as dignity. But we understand that we have value, because we understand we can be demeaned. Of course, all of that is because we reflect the ultimate glorified being, God himself. We have none of our own, we are like the moon, we have light but it's his, not our own. But to worship something else, something in an image that is less than our own (cows are not God's 'moon') degrades us.
In the simplest form it seems that all humans are created as reflections to a lesser degree of attributes that God has to the greatest possible degree. For example, as mentioned we are spirit in a body, which is a lesser degree than God's omniscience. I think one can find this true of every attribute we know of.
Loved this discussion, thank you

That is interesting, what do you make of it?
