49 - We Finally Moved the Old Red Tractor! & Transformation of Farmhouse Wall.

  • The story of how we discovered the farm tractor began with a rumor last year. It was supposedly somewhere on the property under a fallen tree. But with the land around the house and barns so overgrown, it seemed impossible to track it down by foot or even by air with a drone. Over the months, we made a few attempts to find it, but had no luck.
    Then, one day in early spring, with most of the vegetation down, Philippe was clearing out brambles and suddenly noticed a tail light on a red fender. This could only mean one thing: we had found the original red farm tractor! We needed to get a closer look, so with a bramble cutter in hand, we set out and there it was.
    As most of you know, it's a McCormick F240 built in the sixties by the International Harvester Company in Saint-Dizier, a city about a 3-hour drive east of Paris. It's a diesel-powered tractor with 12 gears. Everything looks pretty good for a piece of machinery exposed to the elements for decades, but unfortunately, the front wheels are missing.
    Either way, we wanted to get it out, and sharp-eyed viewers must have seen at the end of the last video: we did get it out! But with no front wheels, it wasn't an easy process. So join us as we take you through the steps of getting the tractor out!
    With the tractor rescue a success, there was another task to be finished: cleaning up the stones of the old farmhouse with muriatic acid. And let me tell you, the result is stunning compared to what it was with the render on. Philippe went on to clean out the trailer because we're looking at a dumper we’d like to buy to help with the excavation work behind the barn. With the trailer unloaded of the rubbish we found around the property, we'll be able to collect the dumper.
    The week came to a close with Philippe taking care of his gear and giving the old red tractor a good wash so it's ready to be worked on next week!

    It is a testament to how well built these old machines were to have survived so well for so long unsheltered from the elements and then for the wheels to turn without a great deal of fighting and stress.
    A lot of credit goes to good neighbours for helping out, that to me as a city dweller is a long lost community spirit.
    The house looks fantastic Phillipe, very well done indeed

And it’s so wonderful to see that you are making good friends too. It’s great people like Mike and your neighbours that help you feel you belong. Anninisa too is a great lady. She looks after Odin so well. He is a real little boy now. No more baby!

    Dearest family. On my sofa yesterday enjoying a cold beer and watched what could possibly be the most enjoying video of you guys. I enjoyed it immensely when the tractor finally got freed. A project where my fingers itched to get dirty and pimp that machine. Such a great treasure to cherish on the estate. Oh yes, I see a big improvement every time in the quality of the videos, they get better and better every time. A feast for the eyes... you live the life like them gods they always say... I think it is true. Enjoy and so can we. Odin is blessed to grow up on such a place. His future is definitely secured. Lovely little man he is.

    Great episode. I got a bit emotional seeing the old red tractor 'coming back home' to the barn. Many years ago we fixed up an old grey Massey Ferguson tractor that had been abandoned in woodland in the 1950's. We sold it with the farm and it's still hauling farm trailers around.

    Great to see the international out of the brambles, Now you need to see if the engine is locked up, The sump will have small amounts of water at the drain plug especially if the exhaust hasn’t been covered for several years, Then there is the fuel injection lines and injectors to clean and bleed the fuel system after the fuel filters have been cleaned or changed, Just take your time it’s extremely simple especially a diesel engine good luck🇬🇧🇮🇪.

    I think I would have spent some time and got the tractor working, get some front wheels and tyres and got the tractor started and then bought a tipping trailer for it rather than getting an old dumper which is yet another machine with an engine to maintain. You will be amazed how much use you will put a tractor and trailer to over the years, but dumpers are really only good for one thing - being a dumper!

    • @DomaineSauvage
      @DomaineSauvage  Місяць тому +1

      Hey Ant, we have a tipping trailer but is it too new to go in the bush with it so we went for a dumper. The reason is we need to really get going with the excavation works now that the weather is good. But it is true it is another engine i need to look at before we can begin! The tractor will come into play once we get it going but that can take a while.

    This is great. I had a thought you could write a really neat children’s book about the old red tractor and how happy it was that you found it and have moved it after all these years. It reminds me of a book when I was a kid called Sylvester and the magic pebble in a way

    Your riding mower wouldn't even fit in my yard! Your tractor is cool. International Harvester makes a quality product. Most farmers around here have either an International Harvester or a John Deere tractor.

    you should try your pressure washer on your outdoor table. I bet you will be amazed how nice it comes up! Then put sealer on it. We did our old wood fence and I really didn't think it would make much of a difference but it looked like a brand new fence after we did it.

      @@DomaineSauvage I just want to say what an incredible job you and your wife have done in what is only the 1st year at the property. In think the way you're approaching things is good, because there are so many projects it can be easy to become overwhelmed. My only other question is whether the ground is still drying out behind the barn and when you're looking to work on the French drain ? Love the videos, especially the land clearing as it really looked like a jungle when you first arrived.

    • @DomaineSauvage
      @DomaineSauvage  Місяць тому

      Thx! We have bought an old dumper but it needs a little bit of work and then we will start digging again, the ground is now dry enough to drive through the yard into the fields.
      More land clearing to come in the future and still lots to clean up but for that we need the tractor up and running cause strimming the fields is just too much 😂

  • @rickgreen9936
    @rickgreen9936 Місяць тому +6

    Does your neighbor have an idea why the front wheels are missing? And another neighbor brings out a piece of equipment left over from WW 2, and a centuries old farm house, the stories there must be around your community, probably not enough wine and baguettes to get through them all.

    • @DomaineSauvage
      @DomaineSauvage  Місяць тому +2

      We have some ideas who took the front wheels and dumped it there... All the equipment that came with the tractor has "disappeared" as well... but i cant say who or what on UA-cam 😉
