Frida doesn't just hold the last note, she *works* it; caressing it with nuances and restraints, making that 14 second sound a masterpiece in itself!

This is the most sensual song by anyone. Frida expresses the feeling of the song so not only do you hear the words, you feel them. The climax of the song, the last note, is felt. Fabulous job by ABBA.

The late great Jon Lord on trying to write a song for Frida:
"Easier said than done when you've got a voice that is that specific and that glorious."

Interesting how Frida makes love to the lyrics while Benny makes love to the piano and the climax of the song, the last note, shows they achieved their goal and created the perfect sensual song.

Such a gorgeous song! It's so great that even though I know all the songs you're playing, your view of them makes me (and I presume all of us) go on a journey as well. So you may thank 'us Abba fans' in every video for being so supportive, enthusiastic, etc, but I think I speak for many of us by saying: Thank YOU for doing these wonderful reaction videos, for being so truly interested in the music. It's such a relief to have someone like you doing your thing when one is normally bombarded by videos of over the top reactions which seem to be more about attracting attention than being seriously interested in the music. So yeah, love it!

You are so very welcome, and thank you for explaining in that way. And indeed, this channel has become a large musical party celebrating so many different artists, and fair to say, the ABBA fans might be the most enthusiastic and supportive of all.
Thanks again, more ABBA coming, of course. :)

This song has always had a 50's Makeout Point-vibe to me, especially with the bass bridge in the middle. It's amazing how Björn and Benny folded all these influences from the radio, from records, from their youth into this eclectic just glittering bag of surprises... insane.
I also think it's astounding how Frida rises in stature as a vocalist on these last two albums. Andante Andante, Me and I, and Our Last Summer are some of the most astounding non-single tracks from their career, all Frida-led, and they're coming up in the next few days. Me and I----- I just can't wait to see your face. That's all I'm going to say until after.

And she sounds different in every of these three songs. If we add the bonus track "Put On Your White Sombrero", it's another example of her great voice.

Love your reaction. Not bad eh? Beautifully written and executed. Yes could be physical or just take time in the relationship. That note at the end was amazing in terms of breathing, changing mouth shape to create differing ‘o’ sound and electronic treatment.

    Hi Matt😀
OMG the beautiful lower tones of Frida's voice 🥰🥴and the at the end her extended vocals gets me every time.....
A few bits of info with regards to this Album,
Originally the album cover designer wanted ABBA and the circus performers to be filmed and photographed outside Piccadilly Circus in Central London beneath the statue of Eros but the London authorities refused to give them permission to do this as there was some antiquated law that forbids Entertainer's and animals appearing and performing in the central part of London 😵‍💫 so the had to settle for some film studios in Sweden. One of the next track you will listen to is "Our Last Summer", this was written by Bjorn about a summer fling that he had in his teens whilst spending a summer in Paris 🤗 and finally the Album that I have from its original release ends with "The Way Old Friends Do", but I've been informed that later printed releases has bonus tracks, I don't know if that will be the version that you may have?
Just a few bits of pointless information that I thought might be of interest 🤔
Enjoying your ABBA journey, OH one last thing you talked about appreciating classic music....the you are in for a treat when you come to the "Voyage" Album, their latest release from 2021...the very last track "Ode To Freedom", don't go cheating and jumping ahead to have a listen🤣 it'll be worth the wait.
    🇬🇧🤪

Hey, James! Thanks for the amazing comment. And you have me very excited for Voyage, as I do indeed love classical music of various types and composers. In fact, you're the second person to say something like that, so the 2021 album should be a brilliant experience too. :)

Back in April 2018 Frida released this in Spanish as a collaboration (a cover of ABBA’s Spanish language version). Imagine the excitement of hearing Frida sing again! That excitement over Frida was very, very short lived, as a couple of hours later ABBA announced new songs!

hello dear friend, happy to see you at our ABBA Journey
today Is the first time that I see that you begin Your day with an ABBA reaction
and with the song "Super Trouper" arrives to 1000 views too (26th to got it)
    "Andante Andante" (1980)
It is one of the songs from the album "Super Trouper",
never performed by ABBA, nor was it made an official video (it remained as a track from the álbum)
It is one of the ABBA songs that has a title in another language
    Italian, like Mamma Mia
    others are Voulez Vous (French)
    Fernando and Chiquitita (Spanish)
It is a beautiful song of love, romance and eroticism,
like no other has ABBA (which is actually more remembered for its songs of breakup and melancholy)
Frida's sweet voice is ideal for this soft melody, the chorus is powerful, and it ends with a great solo by Frida
    Andante Andante
is one of the songs that ABBA recorded in Spanish in this album, together with
"Happy New Year" (it comes soon)
Many years later, in 2016, Frida recorded it in Spanish as a soloist, at her 70 years,
    accompanied by Arturo Sandoval.
(oddly enough, before the ABBA reunion)
Here I leave the video to see, with the link:
    ua-cam.com/video/v2hPmJSGKDc/v-deo.html
I wish you a great new week
    my best regards from
    Buenos Aires, Argentina
    South America

I love Fridas soft and sensual voice on this! It emphasizes the feeling and meaning of the song - "touch me gently, like a summer evening breeze" And it really does!
The next song is also with Frida on lead vocals - and it is much different from Andante, Andante in so many ways! And it is perhaps one of the most synth-filled songs on Super Trouper! So enjoy!

Instrumentation on this one is incredible, but most amazing to Fridays warm, rich, powerful vocal.....that last vocal hold still gets me after 40 years. ABBA became increasingly less mainstream at the end, but their music just got better and better, if darker and deeper. If Heaven has a soundtrack, it must be by ABBA. Great reaction...I could see this got to you a bit. I look forward to 'The Way Old Friends Do', a killer for me. I am a MASSIVE fan of the next (and, until recently, last) album 'The Visitors', a bleak and brooding electro masterpiece - be good to hear your take. Thanks for doing these, I love watching.

I love this song on so many levels. When you’re through with your ABBA journey, you could watch the two Mamma Mia movies. The first one is fluff fun, not to be taken seriously but the Abba songs really elevate the movie. The second one is, in my opinion, far superior. It has a really moving story and it uses Andante Andante very effectively.

This also has a Spanish version. This is about a couple's love making and the whole proccess blended with romance and pure sentiments without being hideous, as happens fequently in lots of today's songs..Everything is pictured in such a poetic way.

Fabulous isn't it. He's playing a symphony on her body and she is the conductor. Certainly a track that I learnt to appreciate more as I got older - it's a long way from Does Your Mother Know. Frida's vocal is beautiful, it soars when Agnetha joins her on harmonies ("I'm your music, I'm your song"). Every element works beautifully.

I was 11 years old in 1980 when I bought this album with my own money. For some reason, my copy (on vinyl at the time, of course) had "Andante, Andante" and "Felicidad" (the upcoming "Happy New Year") in Spanish. I didn't know much about ABBA at 11 years old, and I just assumed they spoke Spanish, not realizing that they were a band from Sweden. It was not until years later that I discovered "Andante, Andante" and "Happy New Year" had English lyrics. In my humble opinion, I think "Andante, Andante" actually works better in Spanish.
I wonder if Andrew sent you all of ABBA's Spanish versions of their songs? It's further proof of their talent that they could perform and sell albums in multiple languages.
Finally, as others have noted here, the next album track, "Me and I," is absolute synth heaven. I am really looking forward to your reaction to this one!

Thanks for a great and beautiful reaction. ABBA every now and then are trying to make their own version of Song of Solomon (the Bible). Never have they come closer to succeed than in "Andante, andante".

  • @petterhansson7312
    @petterhansson7312 Рік тому +1

    Dear Matt,
On another note (Hm!), electric "high" guitar comes in when female voice(s) speak(s) or have just spoken, then in the late interlude (2/3s into the tune), the masculine "low" bass has a short solo where a male voice could have done it instead, giving the male "opinion" on how much he likes the caressing. On the whole, brilliant!
And, in the next tune of Super Trouper, it is time for " .... man, on feet of clay ...". Björn goes from clarity to clarity with his lyrics. I think it is safe to say, this band excels in four dimensions: i) female voices, including harmonics; ii) catchy tunes in every single song; iii) brilliant production; iv) AND lyrics with no fear to open up the horror of being an adult in this world with fears for everything, including losing your loved one.

This was the first completed track for the album. I'm kind of meh on the track but each his own, I suppose!
Synth heaven for you with the next one, Me & I..
Speaking of classical, I do think if you do their Chess, The Musical, after the Abba stuff, you may hear the heavy influence I think Tchaikovsky plays in Benny's compositions when that particular recording blends very 80's synth sounds and classical elements that are very Tchaikovsky in flavour.
