Super excited to work with you on this project! The shop is busy but we'll have an update as soon as we can! Stay tuned!
I'm a sub for you both. Can't wait to see the build 😊
Best Collab
SHIT CHANNEL DAVE
I did come here from Jim's automotive looking forward to the finished project
I started this video series in reverse - watched the engine done, and then started on the car . Could not beleave the first video - that view if the rotted out hulk in the boneyard that only a Car guy could love ! what a great video series. Thank You. A car guy in central Illinois.
I saw your engine at the machine shop today via UA-cam, they did a great job
Junkyard Dave collaborating with Nick and his father "The Cleaning Guy". They're going to do excellent work with that engine.
Just saw your engine get rebuild on Jim's Automotive, came over and subscribed and watched all the videos on the Keller. Can't wait for the next video.
Thanks and the engine assembly will come in the next few weeks just finishing up another project first
Jim's Automotive Shop is the best in the business. I have watched them fix issues that others can't.
I watch Jamsioline I like their work you will be getting AMAZING Quality work done
Just found both your channel and Jim's Automotive channel. Looking forward to catching up with this project.
You picked the right shop ! If its something unusual, they are the guys you need.
I watched the other end of this in the Jim's channel, then heard it was for you. They do great work.......
So I saw the machining done to this block on Jim's channel... and I came over here to get a gander at what the heck a Keller Super Chief is... watched the whole series to date, and now I'm going to have to subscribe so I can see how this all turns out. Thanks for sharing this project with us.
Great to see a collab with Jamsi
Crazy I just started watching these other guys but it lead me to your channel. The algorithm flows both ways?
Well, that will teach me to read the other comments. I made my post, and saw the next post, you already had the engine at Jim's!!
Awww yeah I love jamsi! Great collab!
Awesome!!! Love watching this dynamic Duo machines shop UA-camrs. Looking forward to this amazing collaboration. Thanks!
It will be interesting to see a brand new Keller on the road, built in 1948, died who knows when and reborn in 2024.
A different version of the famous Graveyard Cars.
Yay, new vid 👌👌👌
been a really cool build on a very unique car. glad to see its being saved and get to watch it as well. its something i would of never knew existed if it wasn't for you
This is what I've been waiting for. Keller content!!! 👍
You mentioned rust coming back. All those rusted parts after cleaning and blasting need to be treated with OSPHO, a phosphoric acid solution that chemicly converts rust (iron oxide) to iron phosphate which is inert. Rust goes down into steel like grass roots and OSPHO will get it all. We used it to treat rust when I worked in the offshore oil field, salt water conditions. Paint actually sticks to OSPHO treated steel better than sanded steel. After treating give it 24 hrs then give it a light sand or wire brushing then shoot your priner/sealer. I use a spray bottle to apply it. I've restored 5 old tractors and used it without having rust come back in 25 years on one.
The engine is ready. I'd like to hear it run.
Ok, with regards your pitted wheels, you could et them hot zinc sprayed, it will stop future rust and also they could fill in the pitted area with the hot zinc spray so you can sand it back down smooth and then powdercoat.
Brass Braze the wheel pits Dave. The motor is in the best hands now. Can't wait for updates on it.
hahaha It was funny, I just sat down with a bowl of ice cream when that color popped up. yep, i'm eating butter pecan😛
don't worry about the pitting on the wheels or seat frame. They've all been blasted. the rust is gone. get the coating on a keep them rust-free. pitting looks good on old things. also the frame... will it take your weight? It's going to be in a dry environment in the car covered with trim so just make a couple of localised repairs and keep another original part
JAMSI sent me :)
Your skills are amazing bro
Most important job in a shop that works in high precision? cleaning. A speck of dust can throw a measurement off by hundredths.
On your ranger my headliner on my ford was doing the same. I went to the dollar store and picked up some of their brand glue sticks. and put it on the headliner hard board and pressed the fabric up against it 5 years ago and it's still holding and looks oem stock you can't tell i glued it down.
wow you are doing a great job there, BTW nice soup ;)
There's a trailer axle manufacturer that makes the torsion type axle that is very popular. Might be worth while to get in touch with them to help out with your project. I want to say they still make them here in the USA. Not sure if they outsource them or not.
Laser weld the pitting in the wheels. Simple.
cleanest engine machine shop ive ever seen, would trust these guys with any of my projects. Its hard to find a good shop these days, in my area lots of them dont/cant pay machinists competitive wages so all the places that do engine work are dying off and any place that still does is years behind
Apple hydraulic in New York state can rebuild/restore your knee shocks. I've used them for my1947 Fleetline
That truck is going to be even better than new. Great work. God bless
Hoping the engine gets all the upgrades. Fast turnaround promise!!
I was bored searching YT until dave posted a video and saved my day🥲
Cool! Glad to see you making some progress on this project! Thanks Dave for a cool video!
Paint the wheels! Use hi-build primer to fill the pits.
What about spray welding the wheels? When rebuilding centrifugal pumps for heating systems when I worked in Philadelphia School District we sometimes had shafts spray welded where bearings seized and damaged the shaft. After the spray welding the shaft would then be re-machined nice and smooth.
Ďave your are building a Keller of a wagon. Great to see the engineering workshop. Thanks for the update video.
Hmm... 9 months and no part 6? Sounds like one of my projects.
Now I wanna see someone operating a crankshaft grinder
Great you do a collab with JAMSI!
On the wheels: You don't powdercoat steelies, because no matter what you do, mechanical or chemical, you won't be able to remove and passivate the rust sitting in the grove completely. And due to vibrations and the flexibility of the rim you risk cracks in the powdercoat, where water and oxygen can creep beneath it. Powdercoating is very good at hiding unwelcome surprises...
Always paint them. Paint is a little bit more flexible and if something happens, you can see it faster and take counter measures earlier.
I hope everything is good with the engine cant wait
Walnut shell dust is 1 of the safest things to blast metal with also. It's not as hard on metal. Just trying to help.
Congrats on 200K!
kidding aside i luv your content
👍👍👍😎😎😎cool
If you haven’t already found a solution for the wheels Adventures Made From Scratch is a UA-cam channel out of Hutchinson Kansas that has a lot of old studebaker cars his email should be in his descriptions to get ahold of him.
Hey Dave , "Catch me outside" 👊.. Just kidding! Thanks Dave and thumbs UP!! 👍
With how completely you have this car taken apart, and since you basically know what every single part of this car is at this point, I feel like this would be a perfect opportunity to take some measurements and document every single aspect of this car thoroughly. If you did that, if someone wanted to, it could easily be possible to create a perfect exact replica of a Woodie Keller Super Chief. With a total of 4 known left in the world, that seems pretty important.
how about that metal filler? its like metal poweder and some epoxy, that would work to smooth the wheels out?
sometimes the best way is the hard way and if you do replace 2 wheels you have 2 full size spares for it keep up the good work
You should work with thunderhead289 on their carb cheater for the pikes run.
Silly Question: Noticed your 'spray gun' t-shirt... so... Could you Spray Weld the top surface of a warn out piston, build up enough and machine it down to proper size to recondition a piston face? ....sure wish I had a shop. That would be an epic experiment. Even if it just got you an exampler piston to use as something to build a casting form from.
Been waiting for you my friend
We powder coated an old cast iron bathtub and ended up filling a lot of the pitting with JB Weld. It worked exceptionally well, but you have to do a lot of sanding and reapplying for something like cast iron.
Can't wait to see the powder coating and ceracoat on those parts. It's a shame about the wheels, but could they be repaired?
Curious when we will see an update?
Soon
when will the next episode on the Keller super cheif be coming out? I am looking forward to what is done
Just fill the pitting with lead if you don’t find better ones. Lead sana easily with 80 grid.
Would it be easier to remake the rusted tubing as opposed to repairing? It will be totally new and still look original.
I don't know where you do on your personal time but there was a UA-cam channel men building his own boat acorn to Arabella. Anyway not at the boats in the water the Carpenters do we're helping him build his boat is now looking for another phenomenal woodworking skills they have her name is KP she is starting her own woke her up she might be able to help you with the Woody side of car I like your general keep it up I'm waiting to see what this car looks like you're finished I'm sure it'll be awesome 😎
Can't believe you still have that Christmas tree hanging in the Ranger... hah!
I'd say that clutch was working asbestos it could.
OK whats going on with the Keller.....have you given up on it
Hey Dave I might be wrong but I think there's a such thing as a wheel lathe if you could take a thin layer off the face the rims should look like new
They do make powder coat high temp body filler.
use lead to fill the pits
How's the wagon going? Did I notice dust on it? Hope to see more of that when you have time. Not to mention the Durango which we haven't seen for nearly a year. You need to duplicate yourself so you can work on more projects at the same time !! I have the same problem, too many projects and not enough hours in the day.
well he just posted the engine build video, and you just posted that the magnum is running. so does that mean you will be back onto the Keller soon?
I will need to coat everything before reassembly
Can't wait for the little car to be done.
Also...does that little Ford Ranger stink that bad that it needs that many pine tree air fresheners?
Was left over from the high school kid I've removed them now
Whats with all the air fresheners, LOL
bruh what happened to finishing the charger magnum
What’s happening with the Keller? no updates since July?
I would have loved to see what the fellows at Jim's Automotive www.youtube.com/@JAMSIONLINE/videos could/would have done with that engine
Any movement on the chief
this was 2 months ago when's next part
Will the keller get boost?
Why didn't you blast the rims yourself?
Why cant you simply spot weld the pitting in the wheels & grind them back smooth? Im a fabricator & i wouldnt be afraid to tackle that? Otherwise ur options are??? Maybey ur standerds are higher than mine?? But i would guess that i could possibly fill that in, grind it back smooth, primer it & nobody would ever know work was dun? Otherwise throw them away & buy new? Thats what im hearing?? I think fix them. This being understaood i have not seen them up close. Maybey i might think different if i had?? My 2 cents.
Just braze the wheels up where the pits are and grind it smooth again. Its not that big a deal.
Please get a new camera to finish off this series. The fish eye is really disturbing.
Otherwise great work. Cannot wait to see the finished project.
