Just here to reiterate how great this gladius still is. Cold steel has become the market standard for durability and value in my book. Thanks for existing Cold steel, the world would be a sadder place without you.
I own this machete and it is my favorite out of my collection. This blade sits by my bedside along with my revolver for any unwelcome intruders. I have tested this blade myself and changed the grind profile and put a hair poping edge on it. I pity any who face its edge.
@@Icarusvampire the thing about Katanas is that they take a certain level of skill to use. It’s not hack & slash like this blade is. The katana genuinely takes practice to get the most out of using it. It’s rather large size makes it not as good of an option for home defense.
The personal weapon of choice by the Roman infantry. They knew what it could do. A pointy double-edged medium length blade is hard to beat for all around effectiveness. There might be one near my front door...in a house full of swords. Form follows function.

I have been a sword collector for years. I have to say, the Cold Steel Gladius Machete is one of my all-time favorite edged weapons. For the buck, it's just cool.
Nice video, but one correction: Usually you're wearing the Gladius on the right side so you won't accidentally hit your comrade during a formation. Also it was important to wear it on the right side because you could have cut yourself on your left arm which was holding up the shield. Sorry for my bad English.
Owned one of these blades since 2012. Developed a system of use based on American Kempo principles as part of my mastery program... And train with it almost daily. This is my prefered sidarm for self defense.
@@jhanks2012 i think the asian tester wanted to show that the product is also balanced enough to let you unleash a flurry of hits like that and that it is also good for fast slashes and is not just a heavy chopper

He then whips out another one.

Is it just me or does it look like they did a little extra sharpening on one part of the blade when homeboy cut up the mailing tube then stared awkwardly at the camera?
It comes pretty damn sharp out the package. 100% would recommend the Cold Steel Gladius over the United Cutlery Gladius, because the United Cutlery version has a big hole in the middle of the handle and Tang.
It comes paper and fruit cutting sharp out of the box. But if you want it to go smoothly through stuff like plastic water bottles, tatami mats and the like, you have to put some work into the edge to get it right. I did, and it performs wonderfully.
Isn't mass production and industrial engineering great? Yeah. That shows that you don't need to spend $1,000 on a sword or something like that, for a great weapon, in modern times.
@@shockwave6213 and I'm pretty sure these machete's blades are stronger and more durable than the original gladius swords. 1055 Carbon Steel vs Iron....Carbon Steel wins me thinks!
@@cultofmalgus1310 Oh for sure. I've been reading up on it, and it seems that the Legion grade gladius was mostly made of 5 bands of steel. 4 low carbon steel bands on top of a higher carbon content central band pattern welded together. Nothing quite as good as the Cold Steel's uniform high carbon. The heat treat is a big part too. It seems that the Romans didn't really start arming the Legions with heat treated or tempered swords until they eventually switch to the Spatha. This was rather late in the Empire and the Spatha still used the 4 low-mid carbon bands on top of a central higher carbon ridge. But it was still quite a feat to arm every one of your soldiers with the same weapon in such a big empire. Its perfectly adequate for mass production. It's also not uncommon for them to take broken swords and cannibalize them for the metal, handles and other bits.
@@cultofmalgus1310 Oooh! I would grab those in a heartbeat. I already have their Katana, cutlass, Gladius, Chinese War Sword and Kopis Machete models.
