Great video! Thank you for sharing. I noticed a small metal plate for the strip reinforcement inside at the bottom on the ending of your strips. What are these called and who sells them? Thank you in advance. I can't find them anywhere. Did you make them? (@ 3:56 on video)
Awesome video. Thanks for all the detail. I didn’t realize there was a Mac solution and purchased a PC and Light-O-Rama controllers. Now I need to find out if I can use the LOR controllers with XLights.
I know a lot of people use LOR controllers with xLights. The most common setup is using a pixel controller like the Falcon F4, F16 or F48 and utilizing the DMX output to control the LOR controllers.
Yes! It's on my list of additions. I do have a whole ATC skit that runs in between songs that follows Santa's flight from the North Pole. Unfortunately that's not something I post online as tons of work went into creating it.
@@reelpilot you say your getting rid of this tree and going for a new tree next year? I'm in the market for one! Can you give me a price on what your selling?
I 2nd this! What are the plastic-like strips that the leds are mounted to? Do you mount directly or in a metal grommet? Thank you for the video, it was helpful. :)
Hello I’m extremely new to this pixel setup. What is all the part needed and typ of pixels to get started. ofcourse I’m will do more of a simpler version to start need to know all the part (boards) in and out of the control box. What you had done with your tree is amazing
Only thing I can’t find is black (straps) where pixels stick through goes up to top then down to bottom where do you get those from I don’t even know what they are called?Thank You for sharing I Love The Look!!!If you get rid of that one send it to me!!Just kidding you know, not!!
2 questions. I see you use square nodes, would using bullet nodes be the same??? Or do you recommend square nodes for mega trees? Topper. What topper would you recommend for a 48 strand 360 degree tree?
This is my older mega tree video with my original tree. My newer tree uses bullets. The only reason I went to bullets is because at the topper the strips are bunched together very tight and having bullets allows the strips to slightly overlap onto each other better than with squares.
I'm pretty sure it was BUD Industries NBF-32326 enclosure. I use quite a few different sizes of them, but just go to their website and they have all the sizes listed.
reelpilot: so you had 2 Falcon 16V2's, were those two controllers and that pi specifically for the mega tree itself? I'm trying to figure out how to wire it and model it in xlights. i'm new to this, so i'm still confused to the strings/strands/pixels etc.
Just one F16 with an expansion board for a total of 32 outputs on that tree. I like the simplicity of one mega tree stand per controller port. While it wastes some of the capability of what the controller can do, I also don't have any power injection with over 16k pixels. The modeling in xlights that I showed in this video are only necessary if doing the bottom pixel skirt. If you're not doing that then it's simply dropping the mega tree model onto the screen and telling it how many strands and strings.

love the runway in your layout. However, as a controller I'm gonna have to suggest a control tower in the mix!!

@@johncahill8267 This was several years back and the tree was sold a long time ago.
@@reelpilot i figured as much as soon as I sent it! Your newer video is great! Thanks for all the great tips
Hi, what material did u use to put on the pixel light? I mean the strip, is it a metal or plastic? Tnx

PixNode Extreme Strip - sold by the foot, I believe.
The strips are from Boscoyo Studio and use a 1/2" Harbor Freight grommet.
Building my first tree 180 50 pixel 16 ch what spacing are you using between strings
How long did it take put the tree together
Where you get light
What you think cost of a mega tree is

@@reelpilot do you have a video or photos of your new tree?

for your star on top, is that coming off your expansion board? Or does it have its own controller/power supply?
It runs off the end of the last mega tree string and shares power with the second to last mega tree string.
What's type of enclosure are you using?

I want to build a mega tree SO bad!
What is the diameter of your base ring?
130" diameter
And the height??
13.5' to the topper.
Ok thank you.
What is your hole spacing for the base?
You made a comment about getting rid of this mega tree setup? Would you be interested in selling it?

Very cool
