  • Recently found this dumped, and after a cleanup, and new beater, and new rubber feet, this Kenwood Chef mixer is alive and well. Surprisingly many parts are available new for this veteran, but not for a newer mixer !

    My mother's Kenwood chef was indestructible. Just bought one second hand.

    Just got one given to me by a family member. It was brought over from the UK to Canada. Just received the dough hook I ordered from Amazon. Works beautifully. Why would someone discard such a treasure!

    I was worried about you because you have not upload any video until now. My Mum had a Kenwood Food Mixer and it lasted for years and years.
    I would like to wish you and your wife a very happy new year .
    Joy watching your video River . Keep up the good work.

    When I was little, just the sight of those used to terrify me - cos I figured on maximum setting they’d be ten times as loud as my mum’s electric hand whisk.
    My aunt had her blue a701a Major right up to her death in 2017 - outlasted pretty much every radio, toaster etc that ever passed through that kitchen.

    Those things gave me the willies when I was a little un. They looked like they had eyes and I dreaded what they’d sound like on 10…

    My mum just gave me her A701a. I am so tjuffed. It still has all the bits and bobs that came with it from mincer to food processor, juucer etc. A new one is so expensive and this one is still going perfectly. She has been baking with it all my life. Love that it's vintage.

    I had forgotten about those giant 3 pin round plugs that fit into the back of old kettles. The best thing about old kettles was when you forgot you had put it on and you walked into a sauna when you remembered :-D
    My mum still has an old Kenwood mixer, I remember it from when I was a kid. I don't think she uses it much now, but I do remember it sounding more like a cement mixer than a food processor!

    I just rescued one today, sitting there by the side of the road looking like a lost kitten... cleaned it, did some basic electrical testing and she runs like a top. I've told the missus i just want to tidy it up and rehome it, but i think we all know how that story ends...

    We still have a working Kenwood A701A which is far superior to the modern versions, both in build quality and performance. It had a bit of a service a few years ago, but could do with a full strip down and refurbish to make the gearbox more quiet, as it does grind a bit and deafen you. Now this mixer can turn out some magnificent Christmas cake mixes!

      Gearbox will always be noisy. All steel gears. Strip gearbox. Clean inside. Old grease out. New grease, seal and it's good to go.

    Great video River. Nice to see a well built product being rescued from landfill. This mixer highlights how older things are so much better made than the new modern junk that falls apart quickly. Does it have the liquidiser (blender) attachment?

    • @alanpartridge2140
      @alanpartridge2140 6 років тому +1

      Mind you this was the absolute top of the range when it came out all those years ago. I suppose the difference is back then if you payed for quality it would last but nowadays people want everything at the lowest possible price so manufacturers need not bother with quality.

    • @riverhuntingdon6659
      @riverhuntingdon6659  6 років тому

      Quite right David, but alas, what you see is how we found it, no blender or coffee grinder. I'd think this'll be around a good while longer now. Ridiculous the devices people bin, my DeWalt bandsaw came off the bins in a rich part of town. Needed a good clean and a bandsaw blade, adjusting, and away it went, still have it now, years later.

      Well, I went there recently and spoke to the in store butcher. He told me it was very quiet in his department - he might as well have been flogging a dead horse. Then, in the automatic checkout, it lit a red light and said "Unexpected item in bagging area" - a horse box...

    Y'know what, I think everyone who posts a video on here should be made to watch it without sound first so they can see for themselves just how bad their film is.
