    Thank you UA-cam suggestions! Found your channel by a suggestion about sewing with a serger. Loving the way you manage to make instructions clear and simple but not at all patronising. Now sergers make sense and I'm binge-watching :)

    Hi gorgeous Anita.
    Thank you for taking the time to make this vid....so needed. I've not made a pair of trousers before because of being tall.....and the dreaded crotch curve☹
    I actually have the Singer book....I think that it is about time I actually read it 😁
    If you can find the time, a tutorial would be appreciated. ♥️🇬🇧

    Great video, Anita! I got frustrated sewing pants and gave up - but I like your process of problem solving and I think the last version looks great. Also, this video gives me a good way to explain how pants fit incorrectly when they aren't made for my size or hip width(petite, small). Thanks for making this video.

    I will be drafting my own patterns because I’m a tiny female. For tops, Not one pattern online is perfect for my size, all way too big, even with dart placement. I looked into teen patterns but they’re just a few inches smaller, and much smaller in the hip. So I’m screwed unless I draft my own. I’m confident enough that I can do it after watching many tutorials on it. I love your content btw. For my crotch curve, I used a long price of aluminum foil and folded it multiple times and molded it to my crotch curve. Then used that against my pant patterns and altered the pattern crotch curve with the foil. It worked perfectly. I also add a little to the back of my pants to my preferences. Your pants look great on you!

    • @AnitabyDesign
      @AnitabyDesign  4 роки тому +1

      Awesome that you've learned to draft your own patterns. It's really the best option, in my opinion. I've seen others use the aluminum foil method too. I haven't tried that yet. I'm glad to hear that it really works for you.

    Hi thanks for sharing your video which I found useful as I’m always looking to expand my knowledge on making pants. I too have trouble with pants patterns especially as I have had three caesareans which have resulted in a more rounded lower front. I tried both of the adjustments that you made but the fit still wasn’t right. So i took the pattern back to the original lines and changed the curve shape on the crotch to be mores scooped out. I made no other adjustments and hey presto, the pants sit perfectly flat against my front with no unsightly camel toe. I hope you don’t mind me sharing my experience but it might save some failed attempts and heart ache for fellow sewists💖👍

    Two books and a fitting library to recommend: Vogue Fitting and Palmer and Pletsch (the 2 women who designed patterns for McCalls in the '70s). Threads magazine also published a fitting library Can't recommend these resources enough! (Good place to find these books -- second-hand bookstores and library book sales.) I started sewing for myself at age 10 and I am now 72. There is a difference between crotch depth and crotch length. I need a very long back crotch curve and a very short front crotch curve. The P&P ladies recommend (it is a GREAT idea) using 1/4" gingham check fabric for test-fitting ANY garment.

    Here is a suggestion. Take about a quarter of a inch in the front crotch it will get rid of the pulling in the front. Try it. It really works. Take it at the curve. Just baste it first and you will see how it works. 🙏🏻💕

    • @AnitabyDesign
      @AnitabyDesign  4 роки тому

      Do you mean add a quarter of an inch. Taking away would shorten the front even more in that area, right?

      Anita by Design take in a quarter of an inch. Your actually taking away fabric. It doesn’t make sense but it works. Go from the front curve about 2 or 3 inches and take 1/4 inch.

    Have you made crotch curve alterations that worked for your body? Leave a comment below and share with us what worked for you.
    💡Quick Tip: The Thrift Store is a great source for cheap fabric. Use it to play around with adjustments until you find what works for your body. It's time consuming but so worth it once you achieve the fit you desire.

    As someone else mentioned, I think the problem was the diagnosis of the issue… I don’t think you needed to lengthen the rise I think you needed more negative space and a full thigh adjustment. It looks like you effectively did the full thigh by extending the crotch point but you need to scoop out 1/4” in the front crotch. I’m not an expert but I do think that would do it.

    Fabulous video, Anita! I love how you show your different iterations and versions, I'm not going to be wearing shapewear around the house either hahaha. Do you have any recommendations for preventing the curved seams from twisting? My straight seams tend to lay nicely, but curved seams give me an unintentional bunched look.
    Thanks for sharing this look!

      Thank you Alycia. Hmmm... I know that you can insure that the seams are straight by laying the pattern along the straight grain. I'm not sure what you mean by the curved seams twisting. Are you referring to the crotch curve or any curved seam? If you're getting rippling on your curved seams when working with a knit fabric it's probably because your fabric is stretching as you stitch. If this is your problem, try using a walking foot and/or adjusting the presser foot tension. The tension may be too tight which would cause the fabric to stretch while stitching.
