1:35 good lord that takes me back. The makers of these animations would hide easter eggs in the craziest places. I went to see the Mario movie and the theatre was filled with snotty children, and one day later I felt like I had contracted every illness known to man. Would do it again!
@Kris Dreemurr I sat at the back of the theater and the most inconvenience I had to face was 1 time someone infront of the screen. Backseat are always best at theater, and at my theater they are cheap for some reason
Man, I wish I could get excited about this like Mike and Jay were. So much love for the source material, so much passion in every goddamned frame. Sadly, I happen to *like* movie scripts, so this one isn't for me.
When I heard “take on me” during the driving part I was like yeah that’s pretty alright. BUT!!! There was an original score with a godly DK country track called “drivin me bananas” that got booted in favor of take on me. Finding this out I was like “what the butt?”. That’s all I gotta say
This is way more accurate than every other review I've seen. It precisely explained why I was pretty sure it would be a movie for 5 year olds instead of a movie for 12 year olds.
You're not wrong. My 4 year-old had a great time at the movie, which is what I was hoping for and all I was looking for. We gotta go in with the right expectations.
When I went to see the movie, we stayed all the way through the credits for the end credits’ scene. The scene was basically a shot of a Yoshi egg and the group of teenage boys in front of us absolutely lost their minds. I guess they were really excited for Big Yoshi.
I really loved the cameo part in the movie where dunkey said “big bowser burrito, I definitely got the world record on that baybie”. Best movie of all time 10/10
I also saw this with my wife, we got popcorn and M&Ms delivered to our seats but also smuggled in drinks cuz we're 30 year old children. Perfect movie, ten out of ten.
This is really a movie you watch and enjoy yourself while watching but then after leaving the theater immediately forgetting what it was even about. 7/10.
Ah, the good old "designed by committee for mass appeal" 90 minute movie. Pop it in, turn off your brain for an hour and a half and drool at the pretty colors. Truly the McDonald's of cinema experience.
Wow, that “Rise of the Mushroom Kingdom” snippet literally unlocked a core memory of mine from two decades ago. Dunkey truly is a man of refined taste.
This movie is such a prime example of artistic, oppositional cinema that I straight up threw away all of my copies of Taxi Driver the second I got home
Seriously facts by dunkey regarding the lack of script. When you watch the cast interviews with seth rogan and Chris Pratt, they always say something along the lines of "I wanted to do this so I did it" or "I thought this would be funny even if the director's thought maybe not". One of the best dunkviews in a long time.
Now that the honeymoon phase is finally fading away, I think we're going to see a lot of people come around and realize that the movie was resoundingly mid.

Dunkey has shown he’s more capable than the mainstream critics at completely breaking down what is brilliant / lacking in art so effectively that he can review a children’s movie as a child and the irony isn’t lost on his audience.
@@RaggedM88 in the games he's literally that - a cranky kong. He's a cranky old dude with a cane who talks about "kids these days!". The Mario movie made him (and Donkey Kong) seem a lot younger, which I'm fine with, but I would like to see the more accurate representation in the future.
The funniest thing about that _Afterlife_ clip is that Dunkey didn't touch its editing at all. That's just how it is. "Experimental" is like the kindest thing you can say about it, honestly, besides "unintentionally hilarious". I swear, _Resident Evil_ somehow became *the* most cursed video game series when it comes to (live-action) adaptations since all 10+ are garbage, even the animated ones.
I don't even find that scene funny, I just find it intriguing. How did they make a scene with visual effects that looked professional and smooth, yet simultaneously disjointed and rough? It's incredible
@@abagar2000 This sixth and thankfully last movie of that too long, abominable series is probably somehow even worse in that regard. At one point towards the end, one of Wesker's lower legs gets crushed by a vertical door he literally wasn't even standing in the doorframe of when it's commanded to suddenly slam down, making it look like he teleported over *just* to get his leg crushed despite not moving at all. @@yourmum69_420 Im not gonna argue with you about Jack Black, he pretty much cant do anything wrong
Dunkey gushing over all the references, I could feel that. As expected of the sophisticated Dunkey. In classic Dunkey fashion, he sounds sarcastic the entire time, but we know full well that he is serious.
Wait Dunkey is meant to sound sarcastic?

1:35 good lord that takes me back.
The makers of these animations would hide easter eggs in the craziest places. For example you'd have to zoom way in on the screen to read text on a piece of paper blowing by. I think anyone willing to put details in their movies like this is at least showing some love.
this movie is also known as The "Hey! That's a reference to ___!" Movie
I went to see the Mario movie and the theatre was filled with snotty children, and one day later I felt like I had contracted every illness known to man. Would do it again!
Same here but some little shit was behind me kicking my chair the entire time while laughing quietly.
@Kris Dreemurr I sat at the back of the theater and the most inconvenience I had to face was 1 time someone infront of the screen.
Backseat are always best at theater, and at my theater they are cheap for some reason
I had the opposite, it is filled with snotty adults who acted like children.
Dunkey crossed over with Indie World, Rivals World, and Redlettermedia all in one month. Legend
It felt so surreal seeing dunkey of all people in a nintendo livestream just being dunkey.
1:47 Idk why the way he said it sounds so sweet lol.
That HALF IN THE BAG intro. 😂
thanks captain
I never knew Donkey had such a refined taste in movies. He's like the ratatouille of films
If you ever see his review of Playtime it shows how much of a movie fan he is underneath the surface.
I can’t believe they actually referenced Bowser’s Big Bean Burrito, such a bold cinematic choice
It's so nice of dunkey to lend his video structure to RLM
he sometime comment on their channel too, i saw it a few times.

Man, I wish I could get excited about this like Mike and Jay were. So much love for the source material, so much passion in every goddamned frame. Sadly, I happen to *like* movie scripts, so this one isn't for me.

I thought it was going to be a crossover and I got excited
That's right, Jay.
When I heard “take on me” during the driving part I was like yeah that’s pretty alright. BUT!!! There was an original score with a godly DK country track called “drivin me bananas” that got booted in favor of take on me. Finding this out I was like “what the butt?”. That’s all I gotta say
Tragic 😢

2:00 I was in a theatre with my brother pointing all of these things out lol, King Bob-omb was personally my favourite part of this movie.
If you rewatch that part you can see a cute little Bo bomb across the hall getting super happy when he sees the king
I really loved the cameo part in the movie where dunkey said “big bowser burrito, I definitely got the world record on that baybie”. Best movie of all time 10/10
He was even wearing a blindfold when he said that
yet another masterpiece by hideo kojima; simply breathtaking
I also saw this with my wife, we got popcorn and M&Ms delivered to our seats but also smuggled in drinks cuz we're 30 year old children. Perfect movie, ten out of ten.

Really loved your part in the movie donkey man. Wonderful performance.
Peaches is a song that must be protected for all of time.
Holy duck you started this video with a RLM reference? Respect dunkey, respect.
This movie is such a prime example of artistic, oppositional cinema that I straight up threw away all of my copies of Taxi Driver the second I got home
2:05 The dunk speaks the truth and nothing but the truth. That is literally what happens in the movie.
The RLM intro was a great touch. Can’t wait for The Super Mario Bros Movie 2 movie of the year
i dont think ive ever seen the 2nd half of that donkey kong clip until today 1:20
This is definitely the most Mario Movie of all time
It has Mario references that make Mario, mario
Seriously facts by dunkey regarding the lack of script. When you watch the cast interviews with seth rogan and Chris Pratt, they always say something along the lines of "I wanted to do this so I did it" or "I thought this would be funny even if the director's thought maybe not". One of the best dunkviews in a long time.
Now that the honeymoon phase is finally fading away, I think we're going to see a lot of people come around and realize that the movie was resoundingly mid.
@@alexs29 Yeah, probably everyone is going to be trashing the movie when the third sonic movie is released and they finally nail what a Sonic movie should be like.
@@alexs29 The critics were actually right on this one in my opinion... before reviews came out and this was all predictions I didn't expect it to have no substance story wise.
Kids will 100% call it a 10 which whatever but this movie wasn't ment for only kids... Nintendo has been around for so long, and I'd say this movie was more important for adults then the kids.

Milwaukee has some great UA-camrs
Rich evans + Dunkey = Perfection
My favorite part was when Bowser said, "You've made it this far Mario, but will you be able to get past my Big Bean Burrito?"
Dunkey has shown he’s more capable than the mainstream critics at completely breaking down what is brilliant / lacking in art so effectively that he can review a children’s movie as a child and the irony isn’t lost on his audience.
It’s interesting how across all reviews, no matter how negative or positive, everyone agrees that cranky kong was horribly miscast.
I think all reviews agree that Jack Black is the highlight of this cast.
I'm glad I wasn't the only one that caught that. It sounded like he was literally reading the lines off the script with no thought or emotions
Thought Fred did a good job voicing him. Not sure how he sounds in game but in the movie I think it worked.
1:02 This is borderline experimental
The (bad) editing of these movies is...something.
But I liked it because I saw it with Leah and we got popcorn and Icees and I love Mario. I love that line of thinking. Life is so much better when you focus on those sorts of things.
I couldn't believe the life that Robert De Niro managed to breathe into Wario. Video game movies have come such a long way.
