Pictures nor videos don’t really pick up the real beauty of this gun. Bought mine today and even bought I spent my full hooker allowance, I have no regrets. Such a beauty.
Hi Sir! At 2:31, you have 3 very nice 1911 pistols. Congratulations and welcome to the “1911 collection” owners group. You will learn more about your 1911 pistols as you go along. CZ owns Dan Wesson and Colt as of 2024. Quality usually goes up after CZ buys a company. Therefore, I may buy a couple Colts 1911 pistols in 2025. Stay safe out there. 😎👍😊🇺🇸🐰. Beretta SR.
Back in 2009/10 I worked in a gun shop and we had one on the shelf. It was priced around $750 and I liked it, but none of us knew much about DW 1911s at the time, just the revolvers. So I passed. I really should have gotten it.
Ya I think we all have had those moments. In 2019 Walmart was liquidating all of its pistol ammo and certain calibers of rifle ammo. I went in a bought 2000 rounds of 9mm @10cpr. I wish I would have bought every round they had on the shelf, as it was dirt cheap.
Man when you look at the back of the dan wesson vs the springfield you can really see where your money is going... that dw fit and finish is damn near perfect
I actually watched this video after i already bought a Commander Classic and I'm just glad im not the only one that likes this particular firearm. I find it extremely accurate for a 45 ACP and very fun and safe to shoot. My mom wants one because of the safety mechanisms and because its metal and wood instead of plastic and rubber
I have one I actually bought in 2007. It is also my favorite 1911 of a dozen or so. I paid about $600 for it. That was retail back then. Bob Serva that now owns Fusion Firearms owned Dan Wesson at the time before he sold it to CZ. I actually spoke with him about the Bobtail a year or so ago and he told me he most likely built this pistol himself. The first Bobtails had a large number of Ed Brown parts. Every part in the first ones were milled. No cast parts. I hate you let yours go. They were a true work of hand built art. I bought a Fusion Bantam R 1911 and Bob did some custom work on it. He is an amazing gunsmith and if you call Fusion he will actually talk to you if you ask for him. His son Tylor works with him also. Both are 1911 gurus. There are some great videos here on UA-cam with Bob. Enjoyed the video. Great Job.
I always like talking with owners of companies. They have a lot of knowledge. I bought the 2007 version thinking it was in great condition. It had rust all throughout. It was so bad, the auction company offered me to return it. The fit and finish of this brand new one is better than the 2007 I had. But maybe it was just neglected for 10+ years.
Very nice! I’m currently trying to modify my Springfield loaded target. The magwell to feel like the Dan Wesson. The more I pour over these guns, the Dan Wesson is just better. I didn’t think it would be this apparent but it is.
@@GatCat Those Springfields are nice! I was looking at them. The only 1911 I have at the moment is a Rock Island, it has been nothing but reliable and great for its price point. I've wanted the Dan Wesson for awhile now but they've been fairly tough to come across. Only place I could find them was on gunbroker.
Nice Review - I own a DW Vbob in black duty finish, but always liked the Classic Commander looks better, brushed stainless with cocobolo grips. Just subbed - keep up the reviews 👍
Nice video! This is probably the 1911 I'd carry. And that's a hard thing for me to say being a lifelong revolver carry guy. Packing a Charter Arms Pitbull in .45 ACP as I type this. Lol. Love this gun and great video.
@@GatCat They are fun to shoot and own even if you do not carry it necessarily. But being able to shoot a wide variety of firearms to the level needed to defend yourself definitely helps you become a more broad and accomplished shooter. And you can see the pro's and cons of the different platforms. Which helps give a more balanced view especially as a reviewer.
Definitely worth the buy, it was my first handgun & still is my favorite. Carried it during the riots last year(appendix) for work.🍻🤙 P.S Anyone know if Dan Wesson refinishes the slide?
Since it’s stainless, getting the slide refinished isn’t all that hard. I had Clark Custom Guns out of Louisiana do my Springfield 1911. It came out great.
I started the channel with the idea of bringing a lot of pertinent information from the start. No long intro. And to never drag on with my opinions. Anyway, thanks a lot! I appreciate your kind words.
Enjoyed the review ; you say you had one in 2007....why did you get rid of it ? Just curious . But the fact that you bought the same pistol again.....say's a lot ! I've had several guns that I sold or traded , that I would buy again !
(That dog in the profile pic is awesome) I bought the 2007 version used from an online auction, sight unseen. Whoever had it, just let it sit in a safe for 10+ years. It looked decent, but there was rust throughout. The company I bought it from wanted to offer a refund. And thank you about the video. I shot it again yesterday, it’s great.
My Dad recently passed away and I unfortunately needed the money, as life changed and things changed. I recently sold it. However, it was honestly the best gun I’ve ever owned. I primarily ran the mags it came with, an Ed Brown and Wilson Combat 10 rounders. It never once had any hint of malfunction.
what makes this gun california legal? Is there a firing pin safety or something stupid that makes it legal? Or is it the magazine capacity? Maybe i don’t know what qualifies for state legal
It was submitted at the right time. Thats the only thing. Technically its not a matter of being Cali legal. And I think people mis-use the term cali legal. The Cali roster is different. To which this is on the roster. The roster is a gun that can be purchased new in CA. I have a different video that explains this a bit.
@@GatCat So there is nothing mechanically different compared to their other non cali legal guns? It’s just a matter of what was submitted to be sold there? Thank you, and awesome videos!
@@johnfontenot7861 it’s not much different looking, but how it all fits together is nice. If you’ve ever handled an Ed Brown or Wilson Combat. It’s kind of like that. Just not a complete custom like those 1911’s.

Great - I need to add some money to my hooker allowance before I can make my purchase. 😁
Buying my first DW classic commander next weekend, and I cannot be more excited

My favorite is the PMC. Same gun however it has an "officer" size frame known in the 1911 world as a CCO.
Sounds like a sweet piece. But of course, that’s really none of my business.

Rusted hammer? How do you think that happened? Did you leave it for 6+ months?

The smooth main spring housing is very unfortunate though. I have small hands so grip is pretty important
That’s an easy fix. $50-$100 part from Ed Brown.
