I was a huge Dan Mullen fan when he was hired at Florida. Offensive genius. Over time it became clear that he wasn’t the total package that you need for an elite program. He isn’t a top level CEO, recruiter or motivator. Way too much loyalty to underperforming assistants. Florida is the hardest job in CFB right now. However, if I am Dan Mullen I’d wait until NIL and the portal are settled before I jumped back into CFB.

@Charles - I concur with you. I also liked his comments much like Steve Spurrier. CFB is so much fun for everybody.

My friends are VT fans and they want him. As a gator fan I told them he’d be perfect for them because the Florida expectations are just insane and he could go 8-4 and be praised. VT fans just want to be relevant again and ranked consistently. State of Virginia has plenty of talent and Mullen’s resume as a developer is insane.

    • @charlestoddsullivanforpres6628

He was 6-8 against ranked teams and needed UGA to suffer about 20 injuries to beat them. Go compare that to Spurrier, Meyer, Kirby, and others. He literally imploded the last 1.5 seasons and stopped trying after his first year. Did everything he could to keep the best QB off the field, which is what he did at Moo St as well. In his entire career as a HC, when he faced a ranked team, and his team was ranked higher, he lost every single one of those games in regular season matchups. He is the definition of under achieving. He also got UF on probation and got a show cause order from the NCAA. And, he embarrassed UF during every week of the 2020 season. When he got beat by Kentucky he was all smiles.
He is the most overrated coach of this century. Rode Meyer's coattails to get the Moo St job and got lucky when his starter got injured and he had to play Dak. Otherwise he would have kept Dak on the bench. By the way, UF fans were not sad to see him go in 2008. He was considered THE reason Tebow's draft stock wasn't sky high after that year as a junior. Also, his personality sucks so bad, that even though Tebow comes from a Gator family, he was set to go to Bama, because of Mullen. It was Meyer that had to overcome that and insure Tim went to UF. No Tebow, no natties. Not only that, Mullen is so stupid he was going to keep Tebow and Percy Harvin on the bench for the entirety of the 2006 season. He had no intention of playing them and Meyer stepped in and said, "Are you dumb? Of course you're going to put both of them on the field". UF doesn't win anything in 2006 without both of those guys on the field as freshmen.
It's amazing to me that people can't see the fraud that he is. He's good at calling plays if you give him a bunch of talent. Otherwise, he's not just useless to a program, he's a detriment. He's a real life village idiot.

Timing is everything in this industry !
It can be the difference between success and failure !
Had Billy Napier been hired two or three years earlier at Florida he would have had a much greater chance at success because
Mike Norvell wouldn't have the headstart on building a program and where it's currently trending. Billy would have also been in a much better position to battle Mario Cristobal in recruiting.
Not to mention the brutal schedule in Billy's critical 3rd year !
