These guys are from Champaign, IL. I was attending college in Champaign at the time. They used to practice in my apartment complex's building used for parties. It was 1970.
I was fortunate to have seen this group when they first got together out of Chicago, for free at the armory in Racine, WI. Lead singer is, Kevin Crohnan.
Kevin Cronin is lead singer. Their music has a vibe/pace that picks you up. Doesn't matter if it's slow or fast. Gary wanted more Rock & Kevin was more for Ballads, they split and went separate ways. Gary Richrath has since passed on & is jamming with Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen, Terry Kath and others in the heavenly clouds. I'd love to be at that show. Lol
This was released in 1978. Terry Luttrell sang on their 1st album only. Mike Murphy was their 3 singer and sang on albums 3-5. The singer here is Kevin Cronin. Cronin sang on their 2nd album and then albums 6 on. RIP to guitarist Gary Richrath.
REO was definitely my favorite band back in the late 70's and early 80's. Their music always had a positve message and Kevin Cronin was the perfect singer while Gary Richrath with the ultimate guitarist. They are still around today although Gary has passed and some of the others have changed. I'm sure I saw at least six of their concerts back then alway great.
That's R.E.O. Speedwagon for future information! Not Rio! You'll learn! Oh, the days of big hair! I enjoyed my time with you again today "You Can Tune a Piano But You Can't Tuna Fish" is one of their best albums!
The whole “You Can Tuna a Piano But You Can’t Tune a Fish” is great. No one reacts to “Time For Me to Fly” which is my favorite REO song. Gary Richrath was an amazing guitarist.
This is definitely one of my favorite songs. I look at it in terms of a life, encouragement song. “If you’re tired of the same old story, turn some pages” make some changes. Take the initiative.
R.E.O. Speedwagon stands for Ransom Eli Olds the founder of the oldsmobile. The Speedwagon was a truck from the early 1900's that was the first heavy duty truck that was also fast and was sometimes used as a fire truck because it could hold heavy water tanks and still be fast. The band took their name from this. They formed in 1969 in Champaigne Illinois. Their still rocking for over 50 years. This song was from the 1978 album called You Can Tune A Piano but You Can't Tuna Fish. Also on this record was what i consider the greatest break up song of all time. Time For Me To Fly. They've had over 20 top 40 hits including 2 #1 hits in the 80's. Their 1981 album called Hi Infidelity was the number one album of that year which included their first number one song Keep On Lovin You and number 5 song Take It On The Run. The other number one song from the 1985 album Wheels Are Turnin was called I Can't Fight This Feeling. Though not given enough credit they should be considered the creators of the power ballad that kicked off an entire decade of power ballads and hair bands. Their harder rock songs were from the 70's and include songs like Golden Country, Like You Do, Keep Pushin, Riding The Storm Out. (recommend the live version) Also what a lot of people consider one of the best live albums was from 1977 called You Get What You Play For, Their songs are mostly about the ups and downs of life and love. A lot of great ballads from the 80's. Too many to list here but well worth the journey through their catalogue. I've considered their music the sound track of my life.
Excellent coverage. These guys didn't have a bad song. One of the few, like the BeeGees that outlasted most of the others. I got to see them in concert. It was great.
When I was in high school pitching for the baseball team this was always my warm up song. Pitched two no hitters and in college a one hitter. If you want to pump your head up this is your answer
I'm really enjoying your reactions to the music that has been the soundtrack to my life and times 🤘💯 REO are the initials of Ransom Eli Olds. The "Olds" as in the Oldsmobile brand of automobiles. REO Speedwagon is named after a type of small truck introduced by Olds in the early 20th century - 1920's I think. Personally I think Gary is one of the most underrated guitar players ever. Tioraidh an-drasta 🏴
I love these guys. Time For Me To Fly. It's R E O Speedwagon. One of the best concerts I've ever been to. Several other great songs of theirs (I love all of them) In Your Letter. Take It On The Run. Blazin Your Own Trail Again.
Saw R.E.O. many times in the '70's when they were a rock band.Gary Richrath not only played a great lead guitar, but also wrote their best songs.Cronin was a good singer, and is still with the band, but they are nothing today compared to what they were when Gary and Alan were with them.Look into more from them.
This was one of my favorite songs for a minute. I love the change over from Neil on the piano/keyboard to Gary😇 guitar. Too bad the "changes" they were talking about was their change in their overall product with "Hi Infidelity" It got them their well-deserved millions but was a drastic change to the dark side of HI. I bought the album the day it was released. Listened to it twice and sent it to my 12-year-old sister and said you're gonna love this. She didn't. She couldn't even believe it was REO. THIS was the good stuff. It's a crime they're not in the R&R HOF They're playing with STYX soon at The Sparks Nugget. If anyone gets the chance before it's too late.
Lead guitarist was one of the best performers around just listening to every single word and cord is mind blowing; and the vocals and keyboard are amazing!!!!!!!
Excellent stuff ..REO was fire in the 80s mainly along with Journey and Foreigner too. Arena Rock !!!! I used to love to play my drums to stuff like this .xoxo sxo some suggestions ...Journey - Any way you want it (80s) only .their more modern line up is not the same . you know for an excellent bass song thy Golden Earring - Twilight Zone ( an excellent 70s-80s Dutch group ..Be Blessed
Another group you should check out is "Chicago". You need to listen especially to their live videos from Tanglewood, songs: "25 or 6 to 4" and "Beginnings"

Omg. I am an old, old person. Can still sing this word for word by memory. ✌️
In my humble opinion, this is R-E-O Speedwagon's finest song. One can really feel the song so much more by watching them perform, cool video.
These guys are from Champaign, IL. I was attending college in Champaign at the time. They used to practice in my apartment complex's building used for parties. It was 1970.

Memories of my 20s...
The great philosophers, R.E.O Speedwagon…”so if you’re tired of the same old story, ooohhhh turn some pages”. Truth!
Not REO but letter R letter E letter O
This is the most important inspirational song ever written. Just close your eyes and listen and absorb every word and sound.
Can't live on " beginnings" but must have whT it takes for the long haul of life.
1970s and 1980s. R-E-O Speedwagon.
Incredible commentary! This guy knows his music,…right on!

It is R.E.O. Speedwagon.
Short for Ransom Eli Olds (Oldsmobile) Speed wagon. A flatbed truck first introduced in 1915.
Rock In Peace Gary Richrath
"Ain't nobody talks with their guitar the way Gary does..."
Lead guitarist was one of the best performers around just listening to every single word and cord is mind blowing; and the vocals and keyboard are amazing!!!!!!!
This laugh to myself how Gary fans ( Kevin Cronin haters) come out of the woodwork whenever REO is mentioned.
It's R. E. O. Speedwagon, named after an old firetruck from the early 1900's
This is another great band, check out Ridin The Storm Out, a great song
Lead vocals are incredible
Yes it's R. E. O.
Big Boy turn it up

Ok Hang On !
I listen to the studio version of this song when I work out at the gym.
The band is named after an automobile.
this was from 1978
R.E O. Speedwagon. Roy E Olds. Oldsmobile. It's a car, ok.
This is played in C mixolydian, similar to the C major scale...
Piano plays it in C-2nd Inversion followed by F-1st Inversion and B flat
I think it’s R E O…..not Rio! Hehehe 😂
Pronounced Ar-ee-oh Speedwagon
From champagne illinois
Riding the storm out the live version. That's the real stuff for the rotten storm out the song
