    Thank you Scotty. You made this look so easy! Your video helped me tackle this myself and as a woman the only thing I didn't have was some of that elbow grease RUGH!
    The only extra tip I would say is leave the nut on when hammering the new axle into the transmission. Otherwise you risk damaging the threads.

    Great tip on putting grease on the end of the axle. I would extend that to put grease or better yet anti-seize on the splines on both ends of the axle to make removal easier next time. Rusted in cv axles are no fun.
    Also I wouldn't recommend to anyone to hit the tie rod on the castle nut like that. You can easily bend a prong on the castle nut and you'll never get it back on. Hit the steering knuckle where the tie rod goes through it instead. Works great and no risk of damaging anything.

    So what do I do if I don't have a transmission dipstick. Looked ALL over the engine and couldn't find it. Took it to a couple local mechanics and even they couldn't locate it. Dealership told me it's entirely sealed? What's up with that? Any help Scotty?

    • @scottykilmer
      @scottykilmer  7 років тому +8

      yep, the evil engineers make most of them that way so they have to be serviced at the dealer or by a pro mechanic with special tools and more knowledge. It's all about MONEY.

    • @RoyFabian
      @RoyFabian 7 років тому

      Alot of vehicles just have a fill hole with no dip stick. You just remove the plug and stick your pinky in there to check the level. If the fluid is right at the hole, you're good. But some cars, especially German cars, have fully sealed transmissions that only a transmission shop or dealership could charge you a fortune to service.

    • @ferfire9
      @ferfire9 6 років тому

      VW transmissions in the past had 2 plugs, one at the diferential to drain and other in the the back of the transmission to fill. The procedure is simply fill till it starts leaking from the filling hole. Its that simple, no need for a dipstick.

    Nice tutorial. This was the first problem I had to fix on my beloved Suzuki. I paid only ~16 bucks for the left outer joint. It has been working perfectly for 8 years and 50000 km. If somebody wants to replace only the joint it is highly advisable that throw away the no name grease that comes with the kit and replace it with some quality lubricant. (The inner joints need ordinary EP2 grease - eg.: Total Multis EP2 - without any solid additives and the outers need lubricant that has MoS2 improver eg: Total Multis MS2.)
