Too cute! I'm a beginner harpist so I haven't had a chance to develop a personality. I'll check in after I've been playing a while and let you know the type of harp I might be. Thanks for sharing this fun perspective.
A subset of #7: The one who can only play in her house slippers. If I ever perform, I'm going to be the only harpist who's ever played for people in formal attire and purple fuzzy slippers from LL Bean. That said ... WHAT THEY'RE COMFORTABLE!
lmao i legit developed a nail biting habit because i always used to forget to cut them before my lessons and I didn't want my teacher to yell at me so I too feel called out
I used to be overprotective, especially when traveling long distances, but then I evolved into horder. Where eventually I learned it was okay to travel with the backup and ship my beloved customized babies, those whose creation from new saplings, I oversaw, that rose up from fire and ash of an ancient grove, as if the heavens itself delivered them unto me, their holy vessel... could travel alone. It helped reaching an age I was granted access to the bar and learned to play a few other instruments. Do you have a video on the different type of harp teachers? I grew up with one, who would occasionally send me to work with others or host them to work with me for holiday vacation, but remained my primary from youth to late teens. I would have characterized her as a POW prison guard. . . who thrived on torture but she was the standard prodigy, who went to all the right schools, had a great classical career, longer than most but incredibly bitter she was reduced to teaching in old age, so she was a structured and strict workhorse... dealing with ungrateful students, that preferred inferior harps and had other plans, like her two top disappointments... my rival that was more talented but non competitive and dropped out of uni to be a wedding harpist (the lowest of the low to the teacher, who thought even playing on street corners would be more respectable because at least you're paid for your skill rather than fulfilling a niche) while I, who was very competitive, joined several bands in genres she found she found appalling (but I found them more challenging, more rewarding...), and chose a major other than music (pleas that stem is music fell upon deaf ears). . . while most of her other students were older fly by night types that explained her bitterness. Or the differing harpist cliques. . . it's interesting how often there's a love-hate relationship between harpists. Like the wild approach, you're one too?!?! This desire to connect with the collective... and yet also, now, let me go get my sword because there can only be one!
I'm almost a year into learning to play the celtic harp. Ummm, deeefinitely the serious face harpist xD Or the one between the two extremes of tuning. "Oof, I'm out of tune. Oh well, lesson is in a few days, I'll just tune the day before"
HAHAHAHAHA this was amazing. I always thought of myself as the one who plays with the constipated face, but after watching this video I'm just gonna say "serious."
Ah yes!! Thank youu! I forgot to mention those😂😂 and the background music is also: Fantasie Sur un thème de J. Haydn by grandjany Sonata in Eb Major Op 34 no 1 by dussek ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Uff, I felt some of these.... Struggling when the teacher wants you to start with a random bar, playing without shoes 🙋🏼♀️ What I also noticed is that I always tend to have a double chin while playing harp 😂 Btw: your hair looks STUNNING 😍
Oof! As a newbie I felt so called in this😭 Lol this is so funny. I thought I was only gonna be maybe 1 of these but I'm like a hybrid of 4 or 5 harpists 🤣🤣 Such talent💅🏾😂
I have the one pair of shoes, I barely tune and I'm ridiculously overprotective of my harp but also really clumsy around it. Also I think I've got the same harp as you?
I would look at harpcenter.com or harpcolumn.com both should have a listing of really good teachers! I think they should have online teachers too? I hope this helps!
You left out the hairdo harpist, the "Grandjanay" harpist who drops down instead of raising and has all collapsed knuckles; the over-Salzedo harpist whose elbows are way above level, whose wrists are pushed in, and raises way above the neck of the harp; the little angel blonde harpy who is a devil to everyone else and has a gold harp; the blonde harpist with the blonde 23 who only plays background music in fancy hotels; the harpist who can only play new music; the goth harpy, the rock-and-roll harpy, and the twins harpies.
the Highlander - the harpist that is excited to see another harpist in the wild but quickly prepares to go to war because there can only be one! The Engineer / Mad Scientist - those that aggressively customize their harps or develop techniques that would give most teachers an aneurysm. This could be full customization or just an excess of tools, accessories, specialty amps and mods. The Novelty Harpist - It might just be a novice that starts out with a lap harp but they can be saved, however, the novelty or toy harpist is truly a breed of it's own. There's also one crude area that we all know about but rarely speak of because it's kind of creepy, total cringe but virtually everyone goes through this phase... especially younger, though more frequent with cellists and the like. The "Lover" - Those that become too "passionate" when playing and either need a restraining order to take a break or should explore dating "people," or find an outside "outlet" in addition to playing or preferably before playing before an audience.
i'm the singer until i try to sing along with the higher chords and my voice cracks one too many times. probably also the smiler & over protective one c:
Starting at a random measure without a pedal chart was soooo relatable! Very cute vid!
