Mike, I have watched a lot of your catch, clean, and cook videos and I see how you always have the heads and bones left. And watching this made me wonder, do you save all of the remains for crab bait? Also, are they any fish remains that you wouldn't use as crab bait as they might be too easy to fall apart during a good 24-30 trap soak?
David Nettles great question buddy. Yes I do save most all the remains of my fish for my crab traps..as long as they are small enough to put in the trap...on the larger fish i usally just throw them out...i also will use any fish for bait no matter how long the soak time.... And by the way thank you very much David for watching my video man.tight lines brother
Watching your video again . I have never crabbed and i have lived in Florida all my life i hunt and Freshwater and Saltwater fish but they should be an easier way to get Crabs out of the trap . So if Summer came back with you to check then could you have had 10 traps or do they need to be old enough to purchase a Fishing license .
Mike, I see videos where crab traps are set out in 5 foot of water and some at far deeper depths. I understand that they can be at any depth, but at what depth do you suggest putting the crab traps at and at what depth have you had the most luck at? Also, in fishing you look for structure, does structure help with crabbing or does that even make a difference in crabbing?
David Nettles hey brother thank you for the great question..i like setting my traps anywhere between 4 and 8 foot..thats where ive had the most luck..i like to set my traps near channel drop offs and the edge of deeper holes..hope this helps..tight lines and good luck
I tormented my baby brother one time with a bucket of blue crabs. Poured them all over his little feet and legs. My momma got me good! To this day I’m so sorry I did that. Have always loved to crab. Could eat a dozen right now.
W1de4w4ke252 you will need a valid fishing license but no permit..im not sure but i think you can have more than 5 drop nets..what i use are box traps and you can only have 5 of those per person..look up the blue crab regs before you go just be sure..good luck
Thanks for the video! I’m in South Florida, and waiting for my 12’ inflatable catamaran to come in on order. I’m in Coral Springs, but planning to do crabbing in the upper Keys on the Mangrove edges, and in Everglades City. The regs on the traps are kind of tricky, because no one seems to MAKE one that follows all Florida regs. This is the closest I’ve found: www.easternmarine.com/2-funnel-black-vinyl-coated-hot-house-quonset-pot You need 1 1/2” minimum grid, which this meets, but the kull escape rings are a hair under FWC specs. Also, you need a minimum 3” x 6” degradable panel, which I assume means cutting a piece out of the pot and covering the hole with twine. Finally, current FWC regs say name, address on the TRAP, not the buoy, but how does one do that? I was thinking about getting something cheap engraved. I plan to just do a short 1-mile or less run of 5 pots, for just two like 2-hour soaks, keeping my eye on the pots at all times. This should allow me two or three soaks a day.
I really enjoyed this video. Do more crabbing videos. I use to go crabbing and fishing all the time with my buddy. He moved away a few years ago so I lost interest but watching videos like this brings back the good times me and my buddy had. I live in Edgewater btw. We fished all along the Edgewater nsb river line. Please do more of these.
I've had my crab traps disappear also and I hate to accuse but I think it was also the commercial guys that stole from me, seems how they set right on top of me, like as to send a message.
Great vid again Mike, I know how it is with thief’s. I’ve had a few of my stone crab and blue crab traps ran/stolen in new Smyrna not 6 hours after I dropped them. It gets aggravating but it’s kinda the risk we take these days
People are pathetic sometimes. Traps aren't expensive so why bother other people's property. He do have nice traps.its not cool stealing a fellow fisher.ans stuff.
Good vid man! One thing i noticed was how your tongs kept slipping on the crabs.. id spray the ends of the tongs with plasti dip to give it that rubberized coating and it might grip the crabs better.. just a thought! Keep up the good work
Excellent video! I haven't done much crabbing but what I've done it was for bait here in TX. Always seemed to have full traps the 5 or so times I've put them out. Didn't realize it was so hit and miss. But then if someone is running your traps, then who's to know how many you would have had.
RV Fishing Adventures thanx buddy..somtimes are better than others but in this area my average pull is about 10 to 12 per pull..i do better in different area's but this one is real close to the house..easy to check every day..tight line buddy and thank you for the support.
Hey man I wanna know what Daytona Beach is like cuz it seems fun..... I never went to the ocean.... So I would like u to tell me what it is like..... PS (I HATE CRABZ!!!)

Do you GPS your traps or you just remember where you put them . That takes a lot guts to run someone else trap .
Never thought of using tongs as a crab grabber! LOL, great idea.
Although I have lived in Florida all my life and even been fishing and camping on the East and West coast I have never crabbed looks like fun .

Submerged oyster beds are great for blue crabs.
I tormented my baby brother one time with a bucket of blue crabs. Poured them all over his little feet and legs. My momma got me good! To this day I’m so sorry I did that. Have always loved to crab. Could eat a dozen right now.
