I have the second gen Apple TV 4K with an LG65C1. The Apple TV is so much better to use than the smart TV functions built into the TV. The Apple TV has been my favorite streaming box since I got the very first one nearly 10 years ago.
Bad news for you. If you bought your first Apple TV nearly 10 years ago you didn't get the very first one. The first Apple TV was made in 2007. I know because I owned. It had a form factor that was more like a Mac Mini, and it didn't have streaming. It used an interface that was basically the old Front Row application from the Mac Mini.
I think the fact that you can send game console audio to HomePods via eArc using Apple TV 2nd/3rd gen is so underrated!
3:45 sorry but you are wrong, and maybe did not read the device specification... It has HDMI 2.1 but its not supporting 120HZ@4k!! They included HDMI 2.1 to have all the new fancy ARC features which come with HDMI 2.1 as well as VRR Support. They explictiy outrule in the specs the 4k120 support. "Support for up to 4K 60-fps HDR video output and Audio Return Channel (ARC or eARC) only. Requires HDCP when playing protected content and compatible TV or receiver."
have first gen 4k and definitely don't need the new one. first gen does everything i need to do, which is watch 4k content without any issues or stutters
I had no intention of buying one of these until I watched this video. I’ve been pretty content with fire sticks, but you mention some of my nagging issues specifically. Thanks for the video!
Dollars are USD dude, no clarification required. Strongest currency in the world
To answer your 1st question. I got a Roku device for $40. Not even the cheapest one. It was junk. Connection errors, hdcp errors. Everyday. It is a known issue and forums are full of it. We have a 4 year old Apple TV and seems like a good quality streaming box from xfinity. No issues at all
QUESTION : can it be operated on a 220-Volt AC power source?
If you have a suported tv / monitor are you able to select 4k 120hz on the display options? If so this would be a big upgrade coming from last gen model!
What do you guys think of the Apple TV 4K? Also, I mentioned it supports 120fps/120hz but it does not even though it's HDMI 2.1 compatible. Hopefully they allow it in a future update.
Can you access 8k Videos on UA-cam using it?
Same limitation existed also in 2nd generation. It doesnt seem like they will change it at all -_- I need a real hdmi 2.1 tv box to stream games from my pc @4k120hz (using moonlight app) but there is no such tv box :/
I love it
I want to buy an Apple TV but the remote is so ugly
@@redharrison894 get a cover, use a joypad or keyboard
the upscaling on the Apple TV is actually kind of insane in comparison to most 4K tvs
The question is is it better than oled native apps quality wise???
Pretty good device but seriously, is apple thinking we are gonna stream 4k content using WiFi only? The Ethernet port should be on both versions.
you can stream 8k on wifi
Yes.
@@JayzBeerz I know, but I prefer the stability of the wired connection. At least for watching content.
4K is pretty easy for wifi especially if you have a good connection. Wifi 6/6e helps tremendously
@@omarcortes5754 same bro in my mancave everything is hard wired and every where else in the house is wifi AC which i think is wifi 5.
Great review. I have the second gen on my LG very happy with it. I also have a Samsung 8K and I'm getting the new one. Finally HDR 10 plus! Love your unbiased reviews.
Thanks Jennifer I appreciate it!
I too have a samsung qn900b and I am wondering will the new ATV 4k let us watch 8k UA-cam videos?
Is it better than native apps for oled??? Quality wise
@@farzadjahanfard Mich better.
I’ll buy it
Did you just connected the TV with a monitor here?
Apple protects your privacy from anyone that isn’t Apple.
I would rather Apple made an Apple TV app I could use with any device.
they do
Not sure if this is really not an upgrade. I use Infuse with a lot of high bitrate 4K material and the 2nd gen actually slows down when I try to change the language or try to scroll through the video. It is not a problem with slow wifi - it actually seems to be a lot of work for the processor. So maybe the a15 can help with infuse and high bitrate 4K streams.
Ya usually for transcoding its best to do it on the PC or server where the media is being played from and not on the destination. But ya the A15 will be slightly faster but I wouldnt expect perfect results if the A12 if sort of struggling
@@MatthewMonizI don’t believe he’s talking about transcoding. Playing high bit rate files (4k blu ray level) is difficult for almost every streaming device. (Except nvidia shield and maybe this)
@@rcash9131 where do you get 4k blu Ray lever stream am curious 😮.
Just tell me if they fixxed the flashing black level shadow thing?
yeah, taht is a HUGE size difference!
I got a 2nd gen six months ago, so while I don't need a new box, I am definitely getting the new usb-c remote.
I ignored Apple TV until I used Mac screen mirroring via airplay. No cable, it just works while I work on my couch
Does it offer higher bitrate then competition?
I've always liked Apple 4K TV box for all the reasons you mention in your video. The new Apple 4K TV was the best value new product Apple launched this November. I ordered a 128GB storage model with ethernet as I have already filled the 64GB storage on my 1st gen Apple 4K TV with Apple Arcade games!
What are some games you would recommend on Apple TV?
Quality of the apps also
Great video, going to buy it tmr! BTW, whats the game you were that show the seamless transfer from the phone then to the Apple TV on screen, its like a Space Harrier kind of game. Whats the name?
Thanks! It’s called Air Twister
Both Apple TV models don’t support 120Hz, but can (both have HDMI 2.1)
I bought two Apple TV 4K but I haven't been able to download any application for two months because both devices keep saying that I can't connect to the App Store (Apple can't help with that). I recommend other products like the NVIDIA Shield.
5:27 I hated that Roku was the only streaming device for a while that had Private Listening but its great to know these Apple TV boxes can do that too. Private listening is a must have for me.
Ya really important for small spaces where you have others around who are sleeping.
Thanks for the early review. I have ordered the new ATV 4K. I have an Apple ID since I have an M1 iMac but I don't have an iPhone. I know I can set up the ATV manually without one. But would it be possible to use my brother's iPhone 12 PM to do the colour calibration?
Really nice, really clear overview - thanks very much!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks Jonathan
Which is better Google Chromecast or Apple TV?
Hello, dude!
In Settings is it possible to change the sample rate on this new model to more than 48 kHz?
Appreciate the early review! Can you tell me what monitor you were using please ? Thank you
Can you give more details about ur setup based on the apple tv?
2 hdmi 2.1 ports on my x900h being used by soundbar (eARC) and series x. you think this still worth it using hdmi 2.0 port?
I thought apple caps all content to 60fps last year’s model has hdmi 2.1
You are correct. I have to pin a post
Thanks for the video! I’ve never own an Apple TV and really considering getting one now. I mostly stream directly from the smart TV but the Apple TV+ service is not available there. Have to stream from the Xbox to be able to watch on the TV.
Great!! Thanks!
How is the Zwift performance?
That's what the mac mini should look like.
Oh shiz! 20 seconds ago! Excited to finish this vid!
Does it support streaming Dolby Atmos Audio to Sonos?
Please update this video about privacy. It was found that you do not have privacy in ios devices.
What high end tv comes with calibration tools 🤔🤔
But how many bluetooth devices can I connect to it?
Well I had my control and headphones connected at the same time. Dual headphone support works with Apple devices like beats and AirPods. But you can't do Google Buds + AirPods for example
Is the remote better than Roku yet? I do have previous model appletv 4K with the new redesign and it was not. I do prefer appletv os. That said better remote means more to me than the gui. So I prefer Roku ultra today.
You don't even get a USB-C to charge your remote? That's just cheap. Also, STILL NO BITSTREAM.
Which monitor are you using and what settings your apple tv is on?
Does this A15 chip make the apps load and act faster than the previous model?
I believe that it doesn't support 4K@120, but only 4K@60
You are correct. HDMI 2.1 supports 120 but apple has capped. Rumour has it they’ll release a software update
sounds like you work for apple
So when I start the Netflix or Amazon Video App on Apple TV there will be absolutely no Data transferred to Netflix or Amazon?
only whatever you watch inside Netflix or Amazon that data is something they'll still know.
Idk why anyone would but the 64GB. The extra like $20 is worth it. You get more storage, Ethernet and most importantly you’ll get “Thread” capability. That’s huge. The 64GB is useless imo at the price difference.
Why i use Apple tv? Because i Need it as my HomeKit hub And to view my HKSV cameras 😂
Of course it comes out about a month after I bought two Apple TV 4K lol.
LOL ouch well either way the 2021 model is just as good. You're not missing much
@@MatthewMoniz I also use the Chromecast with Google TV and like the way it recommends content versus just a screen of apps. And also prefer Google Assistant over Siri. Each device with pros and cons as usual.
Does it do HDR on UA-cam yet? Probably not
I have the first and second gen 4K models and outside of the remotes I really can’t tell a difference. I know the hardware is different but speed and performance seem pretty similar to me.
Ya they A10X in the first gen is still super snappy!
Does it make sense to get Apple TV on a high end Sony tv?
I have one of the latest Sony TV (A95K) I plan on using it with it. Its just snappier
I have a Sony TV and Apple TV. The only difference is the interface. The "snappier" experience that reviewer mention is not something you will not notice in real life. Load Netflix on the Sony, it just loads. Honestly how will it make a difference that the Apple TV loads the same Netflix in 0.005 seconds faster?
Does it support dual non-apple headphones (ie google buds + beats pro) ? Thanks!
Sorry it does not support dual headphones. I read it as will it support those devices in general and the answer is yes but you cant use two non apple headphones at the same time. They have to be airpods + beats or double airpods
Waiting for the day when apple will remove the Tv remote in the apple Tv box.
Very informative video. Thank you!
You're very welcome!
A must buy, upgrade for my Samsung QN90B and HDR10+ 😂
My main problem is its support for vpns. I would definitely buy one if there would be a straightforward way to install a vpn, i.e. having its app in the appstore.
Thanks for the video anyway!
Is there any side loading though?
U know Asus routers has VPN fusion where u can choose any device connected to network and have it linked to a VPN of ur choice and any other devices who are not assigned to the Asus VPN fusion will only have a normal internet connection it's really good I use it with my apple tv
@@Execute_Order__66 that sounds good, but expending Apple TV + asus router… I start of wondering if I prefer that or a Amazon stick.
Thanks anyway for the recommendation!
@@Execute_Order__66 VPN through my ASUS router is a fraction of the speed of my service providerd service.
What's the purpose of storage?
To store the apps you download, cache files for your photos and profiles from games you play. 64 is more than enough for most people tbh
@@MatthewMoniz Thanks.
For those who don't know, Amazon is selling the previous gen Apple TV 4K for under $120.
Ya, I'd probably pick up one of those while supplies last
@Garrus Vakarian I think you mean less, since the 64GB model is currently at $119, and the 3rd Gen for 32GB is at $129.
I mean that’s a pretty bad deal, for $20 more why not get the newest Apple TV? Double the storage, better processor, HDR10+, more compact design for traveling…
If the new ones were the old prices it would make sense. But there’s about $10-20$ difference.
How do you set up different apps (or hide apps) for different profiles as mentioned at 8:18? I have looked everywhere in my Apple TV settings and online.
WARNING! Daft question coming at you... if was to purchase the new Apple TV and give my old first gen Apple TV to a friend.. who btw lives at a different address! Would he then be able to watch all the films that I've purchased but at the same time allowing me to carry on watching the same films on my new Apple TV?
Basically running two apple TVs at two different addresses with one Apple ID account. 🤔
Should work if you're using the same Apple ID account
Would it be possible to compare this to the NVIDIA Shield Pro?
I don’t have one unfortunately
Apple TV (2022) is better than the NVidia Shield Pro, unless you want to use cloud gaming and emulators, in which case the Nvidia Shield Pro is far superior to the Apple TV!
Isn't the shield pro almost double the cost and very old by now?
Here is one difference besides being a lot faster than the competitions streaming boxes…. Bloatware! There is 0 ads and bloatware unlike the Amazon fires. The Amazon fires are not only slow but the user experience is horrid trying to find what you need and swimming through all the ads. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Okay, so you have not said how the Apple TV is better for privacy, just that the Roku and Google devices are not private. How is the Apple device better for privacy? Apple still uses your data to market to you. So how is that “private”? Just because they don’t sell to advertisers doesn’t make them “private”. They are still tracking everything you do on your Apple devices.
It's pretty obvious, you are just trolling. I'd rather trust my data with just 1 company who only use the data itself (I.e. Apple and Microsoft) than with a company that also sells it to other companies (Google, Facebook, Roku, etc). Hence why I moved everything to Apple (iPhone, ipad, macbook, etc) and Microsoft (MS365 incl office and outlook) and away from those other companies (I used to have Samsung mobile, used google docs and Gmail, etc etc).
@@FlamencoOz How is he trolling? lol. Just because you're okay with fake privacy, doesn't mean he's trolling when he challenges the thought.
@@phillipperez3358 another troll I see.
@@phillipperez3358 is not fake privacy, its just not “privacy. I think its kinda fair for hardware makers to use some data to make better experiences for the end user. But if you take that data and profit off of it by selling it its a violation pf privacy. U dont know which companies have what data and you dont get paid a single dollar for it. My data might as well be going to a company that uses it to innovate as opposed to one that uses it for advertisement revenue.
Nothing is private anymore ☠️ like you said it doesn’t stop anything from being public and or sold to third party or it’s distributed sellers, two what difference would it make to buy a device knowing it’ll obviously steal your information

I am beginning to think that people are starting to have more money lying around, which they so dearly want to spend on buying these redundant devices.
what's the point of having a TV interface that is buttery smooth? People don't use or admire their TV interfaces too much. It's just a means to access their favorite content, which is in Netflix or Amazon.
Also, this privacy thing, which Apple is touting, is overrated. When you log in to Amazon Prime, Amazon will learn your preferences anyway!! It's really illogical to think otherwise.
Also, almost all TVs now sold have a decent interface baked in to help access favorite content for people. What really matters is your TV display quality and sound system quality. Interface being buttery smooth has no justification here to invest an additional 150 USD on a device, which will do nearly the same thing as a normal TV interface would!
To add on, I could be wrong though, but i think Apple TV only allows you to access their live TV subscription based channels and is not compatible with other setup boxes for satellite TV channels. So not sure what benefit these additional addons bring in to a user.
Many reviewers are talking as if it's a mobile upgrade from one generation to another. It's quite funny, because a TV is owned for an avg of at least 5 to 6 years by people. So why a generation based yearly upgrade is being even considered is mind blowing. If you can't watch HDR10 + or Dolby Vision content, then use your TV to access it directly from its interface apps. First and foremost, there is no point in an Apple TV with support for this and that, if your TV can't acccept those input formats or content, then Apple TV is as good as an e-waste
That's just my thoughts and preferences, though. People with scratch can spend however they deem fit.
I agree. Definitely overpriced and not worth it money. I like companies having my data because they're showing and suggesting the shows I would want to watch. I use the Chromecast because I like it more than LG's interface and I used my LCD tv for 7+ years before upgrading to LG's OLED and needed one of the devices.
The Apple TV is on sale for $80 at Costco that’s like nothing. They are just using these things to get a foothold in the house and then in the future they will get royalties out of services etc
تمام
My privacy isn't worth paying $130 extra. I can assure you, the $30 Roku HD is extremely fast, talk less of the $50 stick. Trust me, I have 4 in my home
Just wanted to let you know that I stopped watching after watching you rip that protective film from the remote. Not satisfying at all
I bought a first generation Apple TV 4K and shortly thereafter bought an nVIDIA Shield TV. As a Plex user, I prefer using the Shield and love the remote. Because the Shield has been acting up lately, and because the latest Shield model is almost four years old (2019), I ordered a new Apple TV 4K. I hope the picture quality of films and TV shows played from Plex will look more natural with the new Apple 4K. Shows often have a slight soap opera look on the older Apple 4K.
Mine was playing up and after a little research the hotfix made it all good again. Turned off updates now so it stays good.
@@Cadeyrnyes Months ago, I tried the hotfix, too, but didn’t turn off the updates. I’m hoping for a new Shield in 2023.
@@lawyer1165 I just had a look and 9.1 is on its 4th hotfix which was only 2 weeks ago so that might get it working like its meant to. I keep a tube one solely in my bag. Can't beat it for hooking to a hotel tv and having everything just as you like it in 1 minute.
@@Cadeyrnyes Thanks for that information. I’m waiting to hear from nVIDIA’s technical team.
I have a Shield and think the best option because of its versatility. Moreover, it goes in the the hall of fame in terms of support in the Android space. Nvidia isnt perfect, but should be commended for this. The main reason I went with the Shield was because when I bought it, it was easily the fastest, best and smoothest experience. I still enjoy it but the performance gap isnt as big as it was back then. I might get this new Apple TV and use my Shield to tinker/emulate. ✌
I'm confused about 129 vs 149. I have around 10 smart devices at home, all of which are recognised by Google home. But i don't think they are all thread supported devices. So will non thread supported devices work with the 149$apple tv?
If it works with HomeKit, it’ll work with the thread Apple TV. If it’s not thread, it’ll also work with the lower tier apple tv
Please tell me: What’s the deal with such a device being able to use WiFi-6 instead of 5?
Streaming with the highest settings uses about 60 Mbit/s (correct me if I’m wrong).
Also, downloading big games is not a task I do 15x a day. And even if so, is it really important if that downloads in let’s say 30 sec instead of 1,5 mins?
I don’t get it, sorry.
Tempting, but the lack of Netflix support is a deal breaker for our household. We've used my old XBox One for our entertainment streaming ever since we cut the cord a couple of years ago, and it does the job nicely with our subscription services.
What do you mean? It supports Netflix. You just don’t have it populating the watch now page from where you left on a show. But inside the app Netflix runs as Netflix
@@MatthewMoniz Ahh, clearly I misunderstood what you were saying about Netflix in your review.
@@MatthewMoniz I'd go further and say that Netflix actually runs best on the AppleTV 4K. I have the gen 1 4K version and it's still far superior than what you get from TV built-in apps or other streaming boxes.
@George T. can you elaborate on this? I've been trying to figure out if I really want one or not but all my tv apps work (2022 samsung s95b) they are just slow sometimes.
Thank you for the video and your thumbnails are great too! New subscriber, I make tech videos :)
Thanks Anna! = ) I appreciate it. Welcome to the family
Nvidia shield wins
So thank you. I did not know about the 120 frames per second upgrade. I think that’s a good reason to upgrade from last years. Plus the whole mesh Netwerk deal. Plus I’ve hit the wall on storage at times. Plus I don’t recall you mentioning if you have a Sony TV and not supporting Dolby picture that you do need upgrade to get a better picture for the new format that Apple mail supports as well. So yes, I’m gonna look and get the newer one despite me having gone the other model last year, but I’ll just pass it on to a friend of mine.
Hey Blair, you're welcome! But just to clarify I totally confused people regarding 120fps. It has the potential to do so due to HDMI 2.1 and the processing power but currently apple caps it at 60hz or 60fps. Hopefully in a future update they enable higher fps.
I have the original apple tv... ! youtube is not even supported!
Must be an original Apple TV issue. Because UA-cam works on all three generations of the 4K model.
@@MatthewMoniz Yeah. It's just not supported anymore. Time to move on
All companies including Apple are following you and looking through your stuff accept it and move on there is no privacy using electronic devices connected to the internet.
This UA-camr is too naive. Apple definitely will collection your privacy like other companies. Don't mislead.
6:05
That's why I pirate.
Good luck playing FANTASIAN with an Xbox controller on a fire stick
😂😂😂 Privacy from Apple products
If anywone cared that much about privicy in 2022, we wouldn't be watching your video in UA-cam, and you wouldn't be a content creator. Let's keep it real. There is no good reason to pay more for an apple TV, other than the ecosystem excuse. Just like with any other Apple product. They are great devices, but way overpriced. But to each, its own.
Oh no! They are gonna know the shows I watch?! Whatever will I do!! Who cares. Save the money and get a fire stick or roku
Lmaooo based, although some people might care that the nvidia shield and Apple TV support certain codecs and streaming high bit rate on LAN
Apple doesn't go with privacy.
Android goes with Piracy
It is da wae
Meh. Go check your facts.
I don't know where this weird image of Apple comes from, but it is 100 times more privacy respecting than Microsoft and Google.
I pick the lesser evil.
Infuse is also only on Apple TV and better than plex.
