It already came from that shitty Revenge of the Nerds trilogy
Music, movies and tv
I hope big hair for girls comes back and animatronics come back in movies instead of CGI
First of all nothing is cringe about the 80’s and big hair is still my thing so. . .
I don’t care how bad the clothes and styles were, having a family portrait was sweet, not cringy. You know what’s cringe? Reality shows and the Kardashians
Agree
At least the Kardashians are entertaining in an ironic way. I’d much rather watch that shit than have a terrible mullet and leisure suit.
any of the ads that preceded this crappy "anal-isis"
I didn't know why we always put down things from the past it was the style and not all was bad just as today styles will be put dawn in the future so enjoy what we have and don't forget it's in style today
Ummm people still get Family Portraits done....like bruh wtf
May be cringe but I will take 80s cringe over today’s cringe any day!!
Absolutely!
Amen!
Nope.
I lived through the Eighties and I don't want it coming back.
Frrrrrrrrrrrr
we have tiktok. we have no place to say the 80s is cringe
Monday got me broken
Eh, tiktok has nothing on smoking
@@bensonk1939people still smoke
Ya i hate that lip sync n tiktok body language 😒
Word.
Still less cringe than almost EVERYTHING today.
Most of these aren't even cringy. It's nostalgia for me.
When you are a senior citizen, you will love Velcro shoes lol
i love them now and im 38
I hate Velcro. It's a ripoff.
@@jsz2619 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Restaurants used to have a smoking and non-smoking section as shown in the 1993 movie Mrs. Doubtfire
It got banned
@@lexkanyima2195 the movie?
@@mattalan6618 in real life
So did airplanes.
I remember that in the 90's and 2000's, but not in the 80's.
16 minutes and 26 seconds to remind me why the 80s were the absolute best!
Saturday morning cartoons, Blockbuster Video, MTV, Toys R' Us, local movie theaters, malls, full video-game arcades, and classic TV shows still reside nostalgically within my heart & soul.
Your profile pic tells me everything I need to know. The 80s sucked ass.
@@tweettweetjones1262 PREACH! It was the best time of my life! I wish I hadn't gotten into the nose candy club scene, but at least I found my way out and never used drugs again. I lost the love of my life May 13, 1988. He thought he was snorting coke, he snorted a line of heroin and it killed him.
Don't do drugs, kids.
@curly_wyn the 80s were the best decade in American history
The one that made this video is quite cringe...
Leg warmers! I can’t believe they got left off the list!
Also cut-off sweatshirts like the Flashdance movie poster.
First of al lol I rocked some leg warmers with my heels 👠 second of all flash dance sweatshirts are the best and comfortable but sexy too…..geez I’m definitely oldLOL 😂
As a teen of the 80’s, I remember a lot of these. I can’t believe the mullet is coming back. I loved Swatch watches.
They aren’t. They were never cool and they never will be.
I still have a Swatch!
I hope the very tall mall bangs come back!
I have actually considered regrowing my MacGyver mullet. But that just seems like too much work.
I have a Swatch somewhere in my house. I placed it in a drawer, and haven’t found it yet. I’m going to try to find it now😊
I live in Destin Florida.
The 80s never left here.
Ok, I need to visit!
6:56 - “Outdated” should be in parentheses because those computers weren’t outdated THEN.
Yeah I hated medieval times and those outdated ox drawn carts.
"All Times Have Been Modern". The kids today have much better stuff than we did, but they will never know the awesomeness of being on the first wave of the computer revolution. It was magic.
Fanny packs, voluminous hairstyles, acid washed jeans, giant boom boxes... These were trends that my older family members sported, as evidenced in various photo albums.
I feel the cringiest part of the 80s was Jheri curls. I can speak on this because I'm African American. Michael Jackson popularized this style and almost every black man wore it. I'm glad it died out because of the hair grease that was left on the furniture. Whenever I think of Jheri curls, I always think of MJ and the Soul Glow commercial from Coming to America. What fad from the 80s do you hope make a comeback?
@@kamsismith Lmao. None. I sure don't want my SOOOOUL to glow.
@@kamsismith Preach, MJ could pull off the look, but copycats were less successful.
@@trinaq no he couldn't.
I loved boom boxes!
I remember during the 80's the following: trapper keepers, faded/acid washed
jeans, pegged pants, playing cards on spokes of bicycles (made it sound like
a motorcycle), crimped hair and fanny packs. while I never owned a fanny
pack (my dad however does, but he never uses it) I did all of these mentioned.
I can still find Aqua Net on shelves at my local Walmart.
I wish we still where in the 80's not a whole lot of paper work like now and I miss going to the mall
I think we did the cards in spokes in the 60 and 70's
@@pastorCraigHAle1 Trapper/Trapper Keepers were a godsend! Being so busy with class paperwork and activities, it helped me travel lightly to classes.
Fanny packs might be trying to make a comeback. I've been seeing them on the shelf at Walmart.
There were no smoking sections in restaurants in the 80s. The whole restaurant was a smoking section. The "non-smoking" section was a small handful of tables that were in the same room as everyone else, right next to the other smokers. But these tables don't have ashtrays and might have a sign on them saying "No Smoking". That was the "non-smoking" section.
The Satanic Panic should've been on the list. It was so embarrassingly stupid.
I bet the devil made you say this, Satan worshiper. 😂😂😂
It hasn't gone away. We're just so used to it we don't notice
@@foy5051 oh it's definitely still here, I agree.
That’s interesting because you look at society now and you can see satanic influence everywhere
It’s definitely always lurking in my mind. In the 80’s I was a teenager so that gave me such a fear.
You just need to live long enough to see everything become cringe.
Reagan flooded the country with drugs
And then come back instyle with the new generations.
There was Sears Photography back then
Woolworth and another local department store had a photography area.
I loved my Swatch watch. Mine was one of the last items my grandpa ever bought me. I remember the rubber protectors used on them as well. It was even pictured on my high school yearbook that was called A Moment in Time. Cheesy, yes. But it is a fun memory.
Fashion always looks cheesy down the line, but not at the time.
My sister and I hated we had Betamax because their selection was a fraction of VHS at the video store.
without getting to technical i read somewhere that i at the time it was easier to put movies out on VHS then Beta
@@mattalan6618 I think we watched the same Care Bear movie a lot!
Parachute pants! I never needed a purse then. Just stuffed it into my pockets.
And VHS machines cost money in 82 and 83 from $400 to $900!
We had to rent one
. Oh my
You missed perms, stretch jeans - preferably acid wash, giant boom boxes, flat top hair, oversized tops with a super wide belt, leg-warmers.
The Flashdance spiral perms. I had one from high school through my second year of college. 😂
I loved boom boxes 😁
I remember loving "Knott's Landing" because the characters were more realistic, compared to the primped up and polished "Dallas" or "Dynasty", then instead of flannel, Karen started wearing satin pajamas with huge shoulder pads. It was hilarious.
I should have written: "Like, gag me with a spoon!"
Loved that show!!!😊
Every time I see Joan Van Ark she just makes my mind run straight to Family Guy when Chris turned to dust when he saw that photo of her bizarre face 😂
Yes, I agree, Knot's Landing was the more realistic of all of the nighttime soaps. I would not miss an episode of Abby, Gary, Karen, Max, Greg, Paige, etc. Omg shoulder pads lol
Dallas was spun off from the characters on Knot's Landing.
I love crazy patterns! I love shoulder pads! And I love crimped hair! Haha. I don't love Barbara Streisand though...
I would still rock a Swatch watch!!!!!😊❤😊❤
This is fun, but as a 80s survivor, I personally encountered very few of these. I mean, the only time I encountered "val speak" was in movies or television shows.
I think it was mostly a southern California thing.
@@innagottadavida8538 Unfortunately. I lived there 🤦♀️
I wanted to hit anyone who started in with that 🐂💩 "Val speak"!! 🤢🤮
I grew up in Montana, and my city definitely embraced val speak.
@@innagottadavida8538 as a SoCal native i can confirm that it's not as bad as clueless but val speak is def still alive along with vocal fry. I have the vocal fry sometimes and i don't even notice it but the closer to the water the heavier these "accents" (or whatever they would be called) get and the closer to the money the stronger they get in young people as well. There are other "accents" depending on the certain area of SoCal you come from, East LA chicano/a is an accent I only noticed when I moved out of East LA and spoke with mexican americans from northern california or even from texas. I am guessing each culture and ethnicity might have the same experience but I wouldn't know for sure. Los angeles is my hometown and i love her.
I've encountered most of these
My definition of cringy must really be off…not sure how most of these can be considered “cringy”
And flava flav still wears his clocks! (I met him a couple months ago)
i have to. at the time though i had a broken arm and it was in a cast. he signed it
What about the glasses Tom Cruise wore in Risky Business? Yes I had a pair.
Those aren’t cringe, though.
@@AntonXulBicycle pants and fish neckties along with the skinny ones.
OMG, I loved "Square Pegs". When the rich valley girl was tired of waiting in line to buy her jacket, she just throws the money down and leaves, then can't figure out how to get the alarm device off. Too funny. I remember renting movies and being asked VHS or Beta?
Car surfing was not isolated to the 80s, when my son was in high school in the early '00s, he got a ticket for having a friend surf on his car. And since he didn't give his friend permission to surf....he made his friend pay half of the ticket.
My son was hit by a car back in 2000. He was in a head injury rehab for 6 months. One of the other kids at the rehab had gotten his TBI car surfing. It was serious trauma. He would never be the same again.
Some people rode on the top of the train. Literally. I some countries. They still do it in India. But this is not sufring, but is dangerous.
In my country, young people do take selfies on the trains. Generally it wouldn't be a problem on stoped trains, but when you have 27,000 Volts above... you can get an really nasty electric arc. They keep on saying on television about this problems, but some do not get the message.
20 cringe things from the 80's while now we have over 200 cringe stuff.
You can be sure that the 2020s bears the 80s hands down in terms of cringe
I think you meant to say "beats"
The 2020s is far more cringe than any previous decades.
both of you are exactly right!
Ill take the 80s over now in a micro second.
The problem with "Just Say No" is most pushers refuse to take no for an answer.
Indoor smoking is unimaginable in this day and age 😅
Looting in mass in broad daylight was unthinkable in the 80s. I'd rather smell indoor smoking to be blunt.
Looting of shops and department stores by gangs of violent youths was unimaginable in the 80s but is quite normal today in the 2020s.
Ever been to Nevada? lol. You can smoke inside casinos and most bars.
@@randybaumery5090 i never thought id live to hear a President tell people to storm The White House. but we did
Shooting fentynal while dropping a deuce on the sidewalk in certain cities is absolutely fine. Smoke a cigarette on the sidewalk of those same cities if you are a taxpayer and see what happens.
😂😂 If you remember these, UB40ish now.
I see what you did there...
The thing from 80s to come back, clean shave, baggy pants for their ease of wearing all day, things not to come back, white frame sunglasses.
Please cover 90's fads, such as Flannel, butterfly clips, chokers, mum jeans and denim on denim.
Yes, I would love them to cover it. The fads from the 90s that make me cringe are mushroom-cut hairstyles and platform shoes. What about you?
@@kamsismith Yep, those are the two biggest ones, especially the hair, usually curtains, for the boys.
@@kamsismithI'm short so I liked platform shoes 😁
They've kinda done that... I actually saw butterfly clips on amazon and was thinking of bringing them back 😂 but i look young enough at 32
Those faux-Texan boots that looked like clogs from the 90s were cringe at the time and they still are today.
Wonderful memories ❤ Thank you ..
I remember aqua net. And big hair. My friend wanted to be a hairdresser so she worked on my hair one time before we went to a Def Leppard concert :-) That hairdo stayed in place through 100° day, huge concert, a 3 Hour Dr. home, sleeping, and didn't wake up till noon the next day. And my hair was still in place and looked perfect. I'm not sure it was aqua net we used. Her boyfriend had this other product that I swear to God was basically super glue. Oh, those were the days.
Does anyone remember fluoro prints on oversize t-shirts?
Music videos?
Big hair?
A general lack of style?
Yes, checkered Vans as worn in "Fast Times At Ridgemon High", neon colored clothes, skinny ties and Varnet Sunglasses.
Holy Cow!!! Talk about a trip down memory lane!! I was there for all of this, he'll, I grew up with it!!
That Whole Dungeons and Dragons Scandal With teens killing themselves which was total crap a tabletop game does not make Teens Suicidal
The TV movie with Tom Hanks didn't help things either. It was definitely written by people who hadn't played the game.
As a teenager in the 80's, here's the items on this list I wish would come back - all of them
One thing I really, REALLY, miss from the 80s are Saturday morning cartoons. Now with Netflix....
And one thing I also miss, the unmolested, UN-remastered version of Star Wars.
Nah, I don't think you went deep enough with the fashion disasters. In addition to the mullets and aquanet, you forgot the thick mustaches, the feathered bangs, the square glasses that took up half your face, and the boxy bib dresses. If you wanna see what I mean, go look up a couple of episodes of Rescue 911, lol
Jelly shoes and bracelets. Buttons of Rock bands, posters of Rock bands, actors and actresses. Many girls at my HS had Springfield, Rick Springfield, Boy George, Bon Jovi, Duran Duran etc. posters. While guys had Heather Locklear or Thomas, Vanity, Apollonia, Kathy Ireland on their walls. Also posters of luxury sports cars with models. I had a beer light.
Or just open my senior yearbook for 82!😂
I worked in an office in the '80s and loved the shouder pads. There was also another term for the suited woman: power suits.
I do like the old computers, as it provides nostalgia for me. Along with the sound of dot matrix printers. Reminds me of the time I had a Tandy computer back in 1987.
2020s the Edgar haircut and tiktok trends would be #1
Jeri Curl. ‘Nuff said.
Drip drip drip
🎶JUST LET YOUR SOOOUL GLOOO!🎵
It was why my grandparents never removed the plastic from their sofas and chairs in the living room and den!!😂😂
Safe to say out dated computers (any old tech) from ANY decade is gonna be gringe because of the pace of technology.
I still have a Commodore 64 & and Amiga computer!
Some people say that about when the internet was fairly new. But I don't see that as cringe, I mean sure the slow dial up speed sucked but I remember how you could make everything on your computer more personalized
@@ITIsFunnyDamnIT Agree. I suppose I was just using their word(s) (cringe). Actually, old tech to me can be kinda 'charming' and makes me nostalgic for simpler times.
@@cyn37211 commodore 64 was my first computer! Loved it, solid piece of technology and the fact it still works shows just how badly and cheaply made our tech is now all in the name of profit, it's disgusting
Absolutely not cringe, classic and actually still interesting. I don't know why that's even here. Probably just to piss off the internet and troll for comments.
It's like saying classic cars are cringy or old instruments are cringy. Also, what is "gringe"?
As A GENERATION-XER, the NEW COKE was okay but doesn't deserve a comeback!!!!
The McDonald's McDLT. The hot burger on side and the lettuce and tomato on the other. Wine coolers and some terrible beers like Coors Extra Gold.
Fashion and trends go through cycles,
and we've seen and will see a few these make a comeback again and again...
As a child of the 60s, I'll give you a freebie from that era (if you ever decide to make one of these for it): Nehru Jackets -_-'
We absolutely went thru all the tech needed or not. We best be thankful our brains still work!!
I just flipped through the nyt fashion and ads section and I know 2 or 3 of the major stylist had the bright geo patterns. For women for sure
I don't miss the old computers one bit. He is absolutely correct about too much time.
Proud to say we still get all propped up and go to a photographer studio or book an outdoor pro session once a year... usually shortly before Christmas, and then we have calendars or other gadgets printed with the kids pics for ourselves and as gifts to the rest of the family! Grandparents especially love it!
The cringiest things from now….. everything almost
" I see why they threw them out of a plane"...lmbo. RIP Dude
I never owned parachute pants, swatch watched, clothes from Benetton, and oversized jewelry. But I had a mullet. My sister owned a swatch, but it was expensive in ‘80s dollars. My family owned a VHS.
My husband had a few " tropical " shirts. Thanks Crockett and Tubbs.
Crimped hair was around in the 90s, too
The 80's were certainly not all beer and skittles but at least we still had the illusion of freedom and hope.... not constantly under surveillance
With Swatches you forget to mention the contribution of the Ferris Bueller knockoff show "Parker Lewis Can't Lose" with their "Synchronize Swatches!" catchphrase which gave the watches more recognizability than the ad campaigns did.
I loved the fad of military style camouflage pants w/ neon tops. A trend that should not return is wearing two different earrings. A fad that started in the 80s and never went out of style is wearing different nail polish on various fingers. Now it is quite an art form. I think it is great. I found a letter from the eighties where my mom told my older sister I had two different colors of nail polish on and stating that I had some ideas that were "out there"...not further defined. Believe me, I wasn't a wild child. Glad I was open to things, though... I went sky-diving and white water rafting with friends, but decided against bungee jumping. 😄
I loved the 80s neon clothing trend. I occasionally still wear neon even today.
One 80s trend I disliked was shoulder pads. Why would I want to wear something that made my neck shorter? Also, IMO they looked the worst on short women - the proportions were way off.
Thank you for the update, WatchMojo..!! BetaMax Vs. VHS.. Back then, I thought we were going to live with those cassette tapes forever. 🤣
I used to be jealous of the people with Betamax because there were always plenty of copies of good movies available at the video rental places in Beta but not VHS.
I remember early laserdiscs. Pioneer made the one my aunt had in 1981.
Don't forget Chinese Fire Drills. When you stop at a light and everyone in the car runs around it until green light. (Or was this only a SO Call thing?)
Those have been around since the 50's.
We did it in Chicago too
I hope mesh mid-riff tops for guys don't come back. I remember Walter Payton rocking that with matching sweat band on his forehead a lot. I'm sure some K-Pop dudes have already tried.
The 80's were AWESOME!!!!!
Nah
@@freya8133 Yeah...they really were. Too bad for you.
@@wealthweb1 I'm 55. I know they weren't all that
Ya know..this whole video is filled with things that were just part of everyday life in the 80's. Nothing in particular was "cringy". Maybe call the list "80's trends that should not make a come back"
"Outdated computer."
They were not outdated at the time. They were a whole new thing.
Aaaah. These were the days.
You forgot leg warmers, Flock of Seagull haircuts, video arcades, and Joe Piscopo.
Painter hats, sleeveless T-shirts, and Japanese prints on t-shirts and belts for a bit. Also neon lights.
Crimped and curly hair, along with side ponytails are what I would like to see come back into style. 💜
I went to college in 1984-1986. I had a buddy that was a Coca-Cola fanatic. When the New Coke came out he was apoplectic. He had obtained a 10 oz glass bottle coke vending machine for his room. You could buy a bottle of Coke for 25 cents. But you had to return the bottle to him. He would then return to the local bottler for another 2 cases. The 10 oz bottles were not available in New Coke. The management was a bit concerned that the machine's complessor was too big for dorm use. It turns out the coke machine's compressor was smaller than the dorm room sized refrigerator. That coke was so good because it was made with cane sugat. Not the crap they had in New Coke OR Coke Classic. Those both used high fructose corn syrup.
Everything about the 80's rocked...even the things that didn't :P
7:27 A 1Mhz Commodore 64, taught myself typing on one of those in 1983 while most kids were messing with Oregon Trail on the Apple IIs in grade school.
Wow! I can't believe you guys missed the opportunity to put in a Parker Lewis Can't Lose reference with the Swatch watches.
"Synchronize Swatches!"
The Ferris Bueller knockoff TV show that arrived too late? It was actually pretty good. Way better than the TV show named "Ferris Bueller."
Thanks for showing how much cooler my high school years were than now...
The ladies with the Aquanet hair do's.😅 Not even Wyoming wind could mess their hair up. 😂😂
Smoke in closed places… the worst of the worst!
What can I say about the clothes? The 80's was a time when we all tried too hard to be all that! Thanks a lot, MTV!
And 99% of the looks invented in the 80s are still around...
i loved and still love men with long hair. mullets were great.
I liked Randy of the Redwoods slogan. "Just Say Whoa !!" It's still used to this day. Just say whoa, dude.
I remember a few of my teachers in elementary school wearing shoulder pads in their shirts back in the 80s. I think my mom had a few shirts with shoulder pads as well. Even as a kid I thought it was a bad look. lol
Here’s a great 80s thing that needs to come back, Customer service but I doubt it will
😂😂
Wow. I'd forgotten about the Swatch Watches I had and the rubber face protectors. (11min 30sec) The watch was $35, then the face protectors were another $5, but you had to buy two and twist them to make them look cool.... But I have to say, my Swatch probably lasted me 20+ years. I used to work out, swim and mow in it. I guess it was an okay investment...
I graduated from high school in 1985 during the New Coke Crisis. I worked at a small market and stashed a hundred or so 2 liter bottles of "Old" Coke. Which I had printed out on my graduation party invitations. The 80s were awesome.
"Parachute pants are timeless..." Unless you are near a heat source... they melt
We need the hair, the fashion, and the 80s metal back.
80s baby all day i remember all these trends also hammer pants we're awesome 🎉
I love Swatch watches! I had a couple, but never wore them together. Just one at a time....
One major fad that came back from the 70s and 80s are short shorts for men. I love it!! Thighs out, men!
Hey dude those were meant for girls
@jeremybowen6565 Everyone looks. If you think you're never looked at by another guy you are living in a small world. I checkout men and women l. Both sexes are beautiful.
Ugh!!
Seriously? You forgot the late, great polyester wrap dresses. Tie them tight, or they open up on the dance floor. 🤣🥰
Rubber bracelets like Madonna wore.
Saw the thumbnail, you already wrong
Where the Velcro shoes made a bit of a fad for some, they are very important to a lot of us folks that have disabilities! I wish more manufacturers would come back with them!!
I remember wearing shoulder pads in lot my clothing, I started to realized that, I looked like a line backer football player, So I ripped them out. 🤣🤣
I totally rocked parachute pants, Members Only jackets, wrist bands, Velcro sneakers, neon sunglasses, oversized t-shirts, and I had something better than a mullet, I had a rat tail!!!! God I miss those days.
Those geometric shapes and eye-popping colors are parts of Ettore Sotsass's "Memphis" art, which defines the quirkiness of the 1980s...
